Chapter I
MORTA BOTA
Morta Bota began his career as a freighter navigator hauling ore between frigid Ojom outposts. His natural talent for reading stellar drift patterns caught the attention of a visiting Guild assessor, who sponsored his entry into the Navigator's Academy. From there, Morta's rise was meteoric.
His first major discovery, the Bota Slip, a narrow but stable corridor through a notoriously turbulent nebula earned him Guild recognition and a lifetime membership. Over the next three decades, he charted dozens of new routes, including several that opened trade to previously unreachable frontier systems.
Morta's reputation grew not only from his discoveries but from his personality. He became a living legend: the laughing Besalisk who could navigate blindfolded, who told stories of solar flares like they were old friends, who always had a spare set of hands literally and figuratively for anyone who needed help.
Yet Morta's success also made him a shrewd negotiator. He learned early that a hyperspace route is more valuable than any treasure. Some he gifted to the Guild, others he leased to corporations or planetary governments, and a few he kept entirely secret, known only to him and the stars.
Now in his later years, Morta serves as a Senior Routewright, guiding the next generation of explorers while still taking the occasional expedition into the unknown. He insists he'll retire when the galaxy runs out of stars, which, as he likes to remind everyone, isn't happening anytime soon, kid
Personality
Morta Bota is the kind of Besalisk who laughs before he speaks and claps you on the back hard enough to rattle your teeth. Beneath that booming warmth, however, lies a razor‑sharp mind honed by decades of threading starships through the unknown. He is famous within the Hyperspace Navigator's Guild for his uncanny ability to feel the shape of a route long before the charts confirm it.
Despite his jovial nature, Morta is no fool. He knows the value of a new hyperspace lane, politically, economically, and strategically. While he happily shares safe routes with the Guild, he keeps the most profitable shortcuts close to his chest, leasing access to trusted captains or selling temporary rights to the highest bidder.
To him, opportunity is simply another star to navigate toward. Still, Morta is beloved by young navigators. He mentors with patience, tells stories with gusto, and never lets a novice feel small. His four‑armed gestures, booming laugh, and habit of calling everyone kid make him a fixture in every Guildhall he visits.

Strengths
- Master Routefinder - Morta has discovered more viable hyperspace routes than any living member of the Guild, including several that bypass notoriously unstable regions.
- Unshakeable Composure - Even in catastrophic nav‑computer failures or micro‑jump anomalies, Morta remains calm and decisive.
- Buisness-Savvy Explorer - He understands the economic power of a new route and knows how to negotiate, license, and profit from his discoveries.
Weaknesses
- Overconfidence - Morta's long streak of successful expeditions sometimes leads him to underestimate environmental hazards or political complications.
- Guild Politics Averse - He avoids internal disputes, which occasionally leaves him vulnerable to bureaucratic maneuvering.
- Risk-Friendly - Morta enjoys pushing the limits of what a ship and a crew can handle, which not all captains appreciate.
