A Morcus heavy proton torpedo being loaded onto a ship

Intent: To provide a heavy proton torpedo
Development Thread: If necessary
Manufacturer: Ringovinda Systems
Model: Morcus 533 mm heavy proton torpedo
Affiliation: Open market
Modularity: No
Production: Mass-Produced.
Material: Durasteel, tritonal, other high explosives, electronics
Classification: Proton torpedo
Size: Ship-Mounted
Length: 7.5 meters
Diameter: 533 mm
Weight: 2 tons
Ammunition Type: High explosives
Ammunition Capacity: 1
Effective Range: Equivalent to standard capital-ship proton torpedo range
Rate of Fire: Single-action
Special Features: Electronic guidance
Strengths:
  • Can home in on a moving target
  • Capable of evasive action
  • Can bypass ray shields
Weaknesses:
  • Can only be fired from torpedo launchers capable of firing heavy proton torpedoes
  • Short range
  • Should not be used against targets smaller than 100 meters
Description: The Morcus heavy proton torpedo features a guidance system in the nose, rendering it capable of tracking targets, as well as providing some capability to evade point-defense fire, unlike some models of heavy proton torpedoes. It also features a miniature ion drive with enough fuel to propel the proton torpedo for only a few minutes (ca. 2-3 minutes) but nevertheless enough to have an effective range equivalent to standard capital ship-mounted proton torpedoes. As with all heavy proton torpedoes, one needs to have a special launcher to be able to fire these weapons. The warhead contains roughly 500-600 kg of high explosives, such as tritonal, capable of dealing hull damage that can partially bypass some types of shields. The main drawback of a heavy proton torpedo with a 533-mm bore is that its tracking ability makes it impractical to engage ships below 100m in size with it.

Important note: a proton torpedo launcher capable of firing the Morcus and similar heavy proton torpedoes will count for 5 standard shipboard proton torpedo launchers.

ok one more thing. This can be fired from a heavy warhead lancher or from a specialized launcher which counts as 2 standard warhead launchers? IF its a heavy warhead then it will count as 5 standard warheads. IF it's a specialised launcher that counts as 2 standard warheads then it need to be noted in the submission.
