Corporation Name: Mon Calamari Shipyards
Headquarters: Dac/Mon Calamari
Locations: Ruisto, Krinemonen, Kyrikal
Operations: Shipbuilding
Rationale: When the shipyards were first nationalized by the Sith Empire, and the Mon Calamari diaspora swelled, they found haven on Eshan, and many began working for Eshan Drive Yards, producing ships such as the MC180 Remembrance-class command vessel for the Republic. Later, when Kaine Zambrano deported the majority of the Mon Calamari, Eshan became a major center of the diaspora.

After the Republic liberated Dac and the damaged but largely intact shipyards, Silk Holdings worked to resettle the Mon Calamari en masse, from all the worlds where Zambrano had sent them or where they had fled. Silk's contractors, the former Rebel Alliance, rescued the imprisoned Mon Calamari and invested in their future.

The resulting vessels, including the MC15 Niathal, the MC42 Ruisto, the MC70 Ackbar, and the MC220 Bel Iblis, revitalized Mon Calamari shipbuilding and prepared a strong core of Mon Cal expertise within Silk/EDY. In time, with assets from Silk and EDY, it was spun off as a resurrection of the legendary brand Mon Calamari Shipyards. Its yards are cooperative with those of its parent company, allowing the Mon Calamari Shipyards brand name to grace even the largest of Silk-built vessels.

MCS is a wholly owned subsidiary of Silk Holdings. Silk's stock ownership is as follows: Aleidis Ijet/'Aldiel D'Lessio' 51%; Danger Arceneau 5%; Jared Ovmar 5%; Mara Merrill (in trust of a major legal firm) 10%; publicly owned 29%. The CEOs of Silk and MCS are corporate appointees without legacy connections.

Tier: 3

Description: Mon Calamari Shipyards products generally have some or all of the following trademarks.
  • Graceful, curved hulls, often dimpled or blistered.
  • Redundant shielding.
  • Powerful armor.
  • Slightly lower weapons capacity than competitors.
  • Idiosyncratic, alien architecture, to one degree or another; curved walls and access routes, access systems which may respond better to some aliens than to humans.
  • Availability in civilian variants, outfitted as cruise liners and similar vessels.
  • Compatibility with various subcompartmentalized environmental systems, as with various proportions of very nonhumanoid crew.
The main Mon Calamari Shipyards facility over Dac is a full planetary ring, rebuilt since Krayt's purge. Though a small Black Sun fleet attempted to destroy it in the moment of the Republic's recent victory, the ring was far, far too large to be destroyed. Used by nationalized shipbuilders throughout the Sith Empire's tenure, the ring is fully functional.

Secondary yards and R&D facilities are found at Ruisto, Krinemonen, and Kyrikal, traditional Mon Calamari worlds. For the most part, Mon Calamari Shipyards focuses on capital ships, though it also produces its own shuttles and service craft, and has been known to branch out for specialized projects. It has also declared its intention of re-releasing classic designs, upgraded to modern standards.

Mon Calamari ships are known for solid defensive characteristics and high crew survival rates. Though not the most fearsome or ambitious of warships, its vessels are well-rounded and good for extended operation or even exploration. The MC42 Ruisto, for example, is perhaps the galaxy's finest long-term exploration craft. Mon Calamari Shipyards vessels have a distinct place in Republic strategy, and serve the free worlds of the Levantine Sanctum, but are also available to one extent or another on the open market.
