SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Silent as the Grave: As with all sonic weapons of the sonic stunner sub-classification, the P60 had no auditory effect except to the target who noticed a mind-numbing ringing in their ears that sounded reminiscent of a humanoid female screaming. This was because it targeted the central nervous system of its target opposed.
  • Segregated Finger-guards: A trait of all modern Lorrdian weapons was the segregated finger-guard, a minor aesthetic feature that separates the trigger finger from the other fingers when using the weapon. While it had no express technical advantage inherent in its design, it was often used by Lorrdians as a means of practicing and displaying their gunspinning techniques.
  • Secure: As a firearm designed initially for Lorrd Security officers, the P60 had a security system located in the weapon's grip. This security system was made up of a scanner that ran a split-second dermatoglyphic identification and genetic code scan as the officer gripped their assigned sidearm in its holster, if the wielder did not pass both, the trigger would not fire and the energy cartridge would secure itself utilizing a mechanical locking mechanism.
  • Setting Dial: As a mass-produced product by a people seeking to make weapon as simple as possible, the P60 did not have an onboard computer to preload intensity settings. Instead, a dial was located on the raised straight mounting bracket that could be used to raise and lower the intensity of the weapon.
  • Rail System: A modular rail system was present on the weapon's receiver, this allowed for a glowrod, a laser sighting unit, or other devices to be mounted.
STRENGTHS
  • Full Stop: The P60 delivered unparalleled stunning power for a weapon of its size and rendered its target unconscious for several hours.
  • Unblockable: As a sonic weapon, the orange bolts of condensed sonic energy expelled by the P60 could overwhelm most standard defenses, bypass many forms of energy shields, and could not be blocked by lightsabers.
  • Pulsewave: By consuming all of the potential power of an energy cartridge, the weapon was able to discharge a thirty foot cone of sonic energy from its barrel to stun all those caught in its range.
WEAKNESSES
  • Do No Harm: A P60 was incapable of killing individuals even when fired point-blank. As a Lorrdian incarnation of a sonic stunner, it utilized an alternative approach to disable and stun and individual without doing any long-lasting damage; neuropathic pain, vertigo, emesis, and temporary blindness were common acute symptoms but would all resolve shortly after the target regained consciousness.
  • Unique Power Supply: Powered by vianite - a piezoelectric substance - resupplying these weapons proved difficult as the only source of vianite was the planet Lorrd. This rendered the weapon virtually unusable except to native Lorrdians and those with some means of obtaining significant quantities of the material.
  • Sonic Dampening Helmets: Despite such helmets not rendering a target immune to all forms of sonic damage delivered by sonic energy, a helmet of this type prevented the target from being stunned.
DESCRIPTION
Project 60, also known as "Banshee", was officially a direct response to the emergence of apostatic figures across the Empire. As a sonic weapon, it was uniquely capable in engagements where non-Force Users had to combat Force Users. Its use of sonic energy aided its overall capabilities as virtually no modern armorsmith designed with sonic energy in mind so that they could focus their efforts on defending against common forms of damage. Unofficially, designs had been in testing long before the rise of apostasy; Sedith Dinn, Prelate of Lorrd, had sought to secretly commission a weapon that could be used to defend the Lorrdian people should rogue Sith or Jedi ever attack the planet in attempt to enslave its people. These prototypes were all catastrophic failures until the discovery and utilization of vianite; with this new substance integrated on virtually all levels of the weapon's design, the Lorrdians were able to design and fabricate weapons with the stopping power needed to put down a Force User.

A sonic stunner, the weapon was incapable of doing significant damage to its targets and was rendered virtually inoperable when the target wore a sonic dampening helmet. In lab tests, it was noted that despite the helmet, the energy delivered to the target's nerve endings still produced a terrible sense of pain at the weapon's maximum intensity or a deep-seated sense of discomfort at its lowest. These strange nerve interactions were known to occur in the Palandrix Personal Protection Gear-brand stunner but were seldom seen in the Lorrdian variant as the Banshee typically rendered the target unconscious through the vibration of the optic nerve, inner ear, and central nervous system before such pain could be registered.

The primary users of the weapon were the Lorrd Security Force, the law enforcement agency of the Lorrdian government. It replaced their standard sidearm in 861 ABY and would be used extensively to combat crime within the Lorrd system. This marked a turning point that saw a complete change in their approach to violent crime, now armed with a weapon incapable of killing violent offenders, the standard practice shifted to simply arriving on scene and incapacitating the offender so that they could be safely detained.

Threats of the Galaxy, The Knights of the Old Republic Campaign Guide, and the Saga Edition Core Rulebook all concur that sonic pistols - and blaster pistols - have a default range of 0-30 meters as optimum with a maximum range of 120 meters. "Saga edition" is one of the the de facto standardized sources Wookiepedia uses and its impact can be seen in virtually every single weapon or ship listed there. More specific firearms may have shorter or longer ranges based on manufacturer but Saga firmly established the general ranges for the 'common' firearms around the galaxy.

A 'square' is 1.5 meters; optimum range sans penalty is 30m for a pistol, maximum is 120m

It should likewise be noted that it is impossible to compare a blaster or sonic weapon to a real-life firearm as neither fire solid projectile rounds that lose velocity or arc, one fires a concentrated stream of high energy particles and the other fires condensed 'sonic' energy; both have maximum ranges that are dictated by when their rounds lose cohesion and dissipate. That being said, almost all standard sidearms IRL easily fire further than 50m, I believe - and please do correct me if I'm wrong! - you are confusing maximum range and lethal range. Lethal range would never apply to blasters or sonic weapons in the first place unless if being used as short-hand to define their maximum range, as lethal range is a vague indicator of when a bullet probably would not have the velocity to kill its target. That all being said, it's still not true. The 9mm, the most popular handgun caliber, was originally designed with the idea in mind that its lethal range would be about 50m; that was in 1901. By 2014, we knew that a 9mm round fired from a handgun was capable of punching clean through several layers of wood without issue - and by extension a human(oid) body! - at a range of at least 200 meters! This means that 'blaster bolts' and 'condensed sonic bolts' dissipate well before a bullet in the real world would lose lethality! A fascinating feat but one that's sort of mirrored in Star Wars as blasters traded range and accuracy for rate of fire.

You have provided evidence that the Sonic weapon can fire at much further ranges than I had thought.

Secondly, Your submission is sonic weaponry. Not slugs. You assumed that I was using conventional weaponry from RL sources when I was going off of sources that were not of the ones you provided. I did not know of this source you provided that had the sonic ranges up to 120 meters. I do not play the tabletop games of Star Wars so I did not know of the source book for which you presented.

Either way, you may keep the range as you wish.

Approved.
