I'm Sexy and I Know It
Affiliation: Open Market, Tenloss Corporation
Manufacturer: Tenloss Corporation
Model: MkII Wanga-class Cruiser
Modularity: Limited Modularity. Add ons and upgrades are possible, but the ship isn't designed for it (Widespread customization or upgrades would be difficult and could take long periods of time. For heavy customization, a separate sub is required.
Production: Minor
Material: Alusteel, Durasteel, Duraplast, and other common ship construction materials.
Classification: Assault Cruiser

Length: 750m
Width: 500m
Height: 400m

Armament:
  • 50x Mass Driver Batteries
  • 10x Heavy Mass Driver Batteries
  • 10x Assault Concussion Missile Tubes
  • 7x Quad Laser Batteries
  • Armored Ram
  • 4x Tractor beams

Hangar: 1 shuttle (for cargo and personnel only. Not designed for military use outside of loading and offloading equipment and crew)

Special Features:
  • Heavily armed
  • Heavily armored
  • Booster engine
  • Armored ram
  • Resilient to damage
  • Slow and cumbersome
  • Assault grade Ray Shielding
  • Cheap to maintain, repair, and manufacture

Maneuverability Rating: 14
Speed Rating: 14
Hyperdrive Class: Class 1

Strengths:
  • More guns for its size and class, giving it more firepower and a devastating offensive punch.
  • Heavy armor and the installed ray shielding lets the ship take more punishment than other ships of its class.
  • Weapons use less power allowing the reactor to focus on the ray shields or tractor beams, giving the shields more defensive ability than comparative ships of this class or the ability to grapple it's opponents.
  • The ship is cheaper to manufacture, maintain, and repair when compared to other ships of this class.
  • Dorsal and Ventral tractor beams allow the ship to lock targets in place for devastating rams or for a brutal slugfest.
  • Can boost for a short period of time to deal the most ramming damage possible (Temporary +1 on the speed chart)
  • Heavily armored prow
Weaknesses:

  • The ship is slower and less maneuverable when compared to other ships of its size.
  • The cruiser is difficult to effectively change course or disengage from combat once committed.
  • No hangar space for anything more than the single shuttle
  • Lack of versatility in combat engagements
  • Inability to effectively power both shields and tractor beams simultaneously.
  • As the ship's momentum and inertia overpower all retrothrusters during a boosted ram or attack, the ship cannot maneuver effectively during such a maneuver (Temporary -1 on the maneuverability chart)
  • Vulnerable engines

Description:

Another refit and redesign of a Tenloss original ship, the MkII Wanga-class shows that even old dogs can learn new tricks.

The ship still fulfills the original role of an assault cruiser, though with far more lethal effects. The ship's hull saw the most alteration and improvement in the form of two attributes. First, the ship was fitted with a heavily armored ramming prow capable of shrugging off all but the heaviest of weapons and barrages. The ram is designed purely for brute strength and is anchored to the ship's spine, providing increased durability and structural support. In combat, the ram is used to puncture and tear into ship hulls, ripping open terrible wounds in armored hulls and rending ships and crews apart. The second alteration was the ship's gun decks. The decks were expanded both in size and armor, easily extending the ship's width and enlarging the vessel's profile, but with the added benefit of packing more guns and more armor into the ship. Along these gun decks are mounted the majority of the ship's weaponry which allows it to pummel and crush enemy ships foolish or unlucky enough to venture too close.

The other additions were a powerful booster engine capable of propelling the ship forwards at faster speeds than standard engine outputs. While most ships use such engines to maneuver into better positions or to escape attack, the Wanga does the opposite. Standard tactics are to use the booster engines in tandem with the armored ram to provide an absolutely devastating attack against enemy vessels. It can also be used to close with the enemy quickly, something most commanders fear when placed against assault ships. The ship's four tractor beams - two dorsal, two ventral - are designed for combat as well, though they can be used to move objects as per standard. The tractor beams are mounted so that all four can fire foward to hold a target in place. The concept is that the beams hold the target to allow the ship to ram the enemy ship full force. As two beams can turn to face either side as well, the beams can be used to also hold targets in place on either side to allow the ship to pound the target or targets with the guns at its disposal. Also featured on the ship are ten assault concussion missile launchers. These are generally used to bombard the enemy as the ships close in to close quarters or, occasionally, used at point blank for a devastating volley before the two forces collide.

The ship is highly resilient to damage and heavily armored to minimize damage, making it a true close quarters beast. Ray shields are installed of assault quality to help protect the armor plating from energy based attacks as well. The ship is simple and easy to maintain, repair, and construct, making it a must have for any prospective fleeter throughout the galaxy. Lastly, as the weapons on board use minimal power, the ship finds it easier to shunt power to shields, engines, etc. in the event of an emergency, something that most comparative ships of its class cannot do for the most part.

The downsides are fairly simple. The Wanga, much like its predecessor, is slow and cumbersome as standard for a beast of its size and caliber. As such, the ship is hard to maneuver easily and, once committed, is difficult to disengage from a fight. There is no hangar space on board the ship aside from room for one utility shuttle used for cargo and personnel transfers, and as a close range brawler the ship lacks some versatility. Also, while the ship can easily shunt power where needed, due to the power needed to hold enemy warships in place, the tractor beams and ray shielding cannot be used in conjunction, a design flaw that Tenloss R&D staff are still working to rectify. As the ship is designed to face its front or sides to the enemy at all times, the engines are left with basic armor plating around the engine housing, leaving the engines vulnerable to attack. While a massive design flaw, it was deemed acceptable for the ship's role and assumed that canny fleet officers would rely upon a second wave of smaller, more agile ships to guard the Wangas' rear. Lastly, the booster engine vastly increases the ship's inertia and momentum, often overpowering the ship's equipped retrothrusters. While boosting with the engine for any reason, the ship cannot effectively maneuver or turn, meaning that until the ship drops speed, it will find turning difficult.

Development Thread: N/A
Intent: To provide an updated, cheap, assault cruiser to the open market and to update an old design into the modern era.

Alright, looks ok after giving it a decent review. Math comes out and it makes nice balances. Just had to check if assault and heavy were the same.
