  • 6 Ion engines.
  • 2 Extending Airtight Magnetic Docking Claws/Passageways
ADVANCED SYSTEMS
  • This vessel/ship/object has no advanced or special systems, it's just standard starship and hyperspace transport ring parts put together in a novel and unique way.
STRENGTHS
  • More time away from home: Thanks to the large cargo capacity and the living quarters, a starfighter pilot/starfighter pilots equipped with this addition to their ship can go much longer without returning to base, going on several-month-long patrols. It's basically a trailer and a hyperdrive transport ring all in one!
  • Detachable: Along with the added supply storage and potential mission length, if you have to engage in combat, you can simply undock from the cumbersome hyperspace transport ring, becoming a swift and nimble starfighter again.
WEAKNESSES
  • Dead weight in a fight: If you have to get into ship-to-ship combat, you can undock from this to become more maneuverable and engage your enemy... but it has no strong defenses, and once you're separated, it's just sitting there waiting to be blown up... leaving you stranded without a hyperdrive.
  • Stranded in space: Additionally, it has no helm position. In a rare inverse situation, having your starfighter destroyed while you are aboard the living accommodation will also leave you completely stranded, drifting in space.
  • Compatablity issues: Only compatible with starfighters that feature both a ventral and dorsal docking port.
DESCRIPTION
The MK I Scabbard is designed and manufactured by Adumar Advanced Starcraft Design and Repair, with a single "What if" idea in mind: "What if you could give a quick and maneuverable starfighter the long term supply and long term travel capabilities of a corvette?" Born of that idea was the bastardization of a hyperspace travel ring you see described before you. Combining elements of the composition, shape, parts, and schematics of the Gozanti Class Assault Carrier and the Syliure-45 hyperdrive module, the MK 1 Scabbard provides cozy living quarters and spacious cargo storage for an attached two-person starfighter crew. Enough consumable storage to allow for a three-person crew even, if they sleep in shifts.

This specialized hyperspace transport ring allows non-hyperdrive capable, small craft like starfighters and bombers to be used in the role of long term, deep space, territorial patrol craft, in place of something more expensive like a corvette or frigate. This conversion obviously isn't as potent as a corvette, but it's a good choice for a warlord on a budget with a limited fleet, or an excellent anti-piracy measure during peacetime.
  • Minimum Crew: 1, in an attached starfigher/starship
  • Optimal Crew: 1 or more, in an attached starfigher/starship
  • Passenger Capacity: 2-3.
  • Cargo Capacity: 12 months of consumables for 2 people, 8 months of consumables for 3 people.

I encourage anyone who looks at this entry to provide me with some feedback. I know it's a HIGHLY unconventional design/idea, and I'd like to hear what you all think about it.

The inspiration for this, oddly, was observing the benefit people receive when using a car to tow a trailer when camping, vs using an RV.
You get access to all this extra storage space, and extra utilities, just like an RV, but then when you need to be more mobile, say to go drive on a local beach or something, you can just unhook the trailer and go. It's an option you don't get with an RV, where you're forced to haul everything around with you. Having noticed this, ages ago, I thought: what if that concept were applied to star wars. You could have a starfighter haul around a bunch of cargo and utilities and living space, and leave it behind when needed.

And thus this idea was laid in my head 4-5 years ago, and has followed me around until recently, when I joined this site and finally got to put it to use..

Below this, I'll be using this thread to design a ship model compatible with the MK-1 Scabbard. I'm thinking a variant of the Scimitar Assault Bomber, with a lengthened command pod and additional sensors. It's already an incredibly fast and nimble ship, with an arsenal that would allow it to take on a decent sized vessel... it just needs the supplies, crew space, and the scanning ability, and it could be an EXCELLENT vessel for patrolling deep space...

Scimitar%20Recon%20Bomber.png

A basic rough diagram of my variant. Length is 20.4 meters, 6.6 more than the Scimitar Assault Bomber. Height and Width are the same as the Scimitar Assault Bomber. As well as the control module gaining a large increase in size for the extra station and the causeway, the length of the main body is increased some to allow for the presence of a larger power generator, and the Ion engines are somewhat larger to make up for these alterations. Behind it all though, the systems of the main body remain much the same.

Can be deployed in orbit of a planet to monitor approaching vessels, but lacks the storage and supplies to allow the crew to operate more than several hours at a time.

When used in combination with the MK I Scabbard, this ship becomes capable of much, much, longer patrol times, and patrols much farther from a base or capital ship. The MK 1 Scabbard grants a vessel like this, for lack of a better word, independence from a larger support structure.

Potential names Scimitar Recon Bomber, Scimitar Patrol Bomber, Scimitar Territorial Patrol Bomber?

    • Enhanced carbon-durasteel plating.
  • Squadron Count: None: 1
  • Maneuverability Rating: Low
  • Speed Rating: Extreme
  • Hyperdrive: Class 0.7, Class 12 secondary.

STANDARD FEATURES
  • All standard features.
  • Refresher.
  • 2 person cabin.
  • 2 docking rings.
ADVANCED SYSTEMS
  • Sublight engines are all enhanced through the custom addition of red kyber crystals to concentrate, focus, and amplify their power output.
  • 3 solar arrays, with 13 solar collectors distributed among them.
    • 1 per wing with 5 solar collectors.
    • 1 on the nose with 3 solar collectors.
  • Powerful deflector shield generator.
  • 4 Mk II Votoly "Booster Seats" that raise from the main compartment into a canopy, with the pilot and copilot stations at the front end, as well as 2 passenger positions behind them.
STRENGTHS
  • Lightning Quick: Specialty kyber crystal enhanced sublight engines made specifically for this custom ship allow it to achieve terrifying, nauseating, teeth-gritting speeds... when it's traveling in a straight path. It makes it difficult to intercept, difficult to hit without severely leading shots far ahead of it, and VERY difficult to catch up to once it's gone past.
  • Shrug It Off: Powerful deflector shields and a very thick hull composed of enhanced carbon-durasteel armor allow it to ignore most fire directed at it and maintain its flight path. Excellent for breaking through blockades.
  • Saving time: The class 0.7 is excellent (when it works), allowing large galactic distances to be covered in mere hours. Perfect for a courier.
WEAKNESSES
  • Fixed Weapons: All four of the ship's medium blaster cannons are fixed in the forward position, meaning if you're forced to engage in combat, you must maneuver your vessel to face your enemy before you can fire on them.
  • Sluggish Maneuverability: This vessel has excellent forward momentum, but it turns, spins, and rolls very, very, very slowly. It's nearly impossible to dodge anything that's going to hit you. It's also nearly impossible to get an enemy ahead of you to shoot them down.
  • Fickle Engineering: The 0.7 hyperdrive is... stubborn, to word the situation kindly. It's in constant need of repair, and when you need that extra speed the most, you'll find yourself frantically racing to the engine compartment to restore power to it. More often than they might like, the pilot of this vessel will be relying on the Class 12 backup hyperdrive.
  • Nightmare-inducing technology: The secret behind the scary-fast speed of the "Keeper of Promises" is the inclusion of a set of scarlet red kyber crystals, which have been intensely bled. These crystals are used to concentrate, focus, and amplify the power being generated by each of the sublight engines. The unfortunate side effect of having this many red kyber crystals integrated into a ship? An increased number of force disturbances, visions, and other unpleasant effects felt by the ship's occupants, particularly force-sensitive ones. This ship is a terrifying vessel to ride in, and despite being brand new, it feels and behaves as if it is severely haunted.
  • Low cargo space: The downside of all couriers when compared to other types of cargo haulers like freighters is the much smaller cargo space.
  • Galley-less: There is no food preparation space on board. Hopefully, the crew and any passengers are okay with MREs and snack foods because hot meals are out of the question.
DESCRIPTION
A custom-order armored courier constructed by Adumar Advanced Starcraft Design and Repair for a private client who vanished as quickly as they appeared, and who neglected to return and give the second half of their payment upon completion of work. The somewhat ironically named "Keeper of Promises" is now available to whomever desires it. A.A.S.D.R. cannot make any copies of this vessel, as construction requires a prohibitive amount of red kyber crystals, which means killing a prohibitive amount of Jedi and bleeding their lightsaber crystals. A.A.S.D.R. is not in the business of murdering force users. The crystals used in the construction of the "Keeper of Promises" were supplied by the private client that ordered it.

The interior of the ship is quite simplistic. A small engineering compartment occupies the stern of the main body. Ahead of that sits a small hallway with a refresher to port and a cabin with a double berth, a small hanging locker, and a minifridge to starboard. Beyond the hallway, a single, large, open compartment takes up the rest of the length of the ship, almost all the way to the nose. The walls of this compartment are occupied with fold-down tables, storage shelves, cabinets, and uncomfortable metal folding benches. Two docking rings sit at port and starboard, and four seats on tracks can be powered upwards into the canopy of the ship, where the helm station and other controls are located. At the front end of the compartment sits the boarding/cargo loading ramp. This large utilitarian space feels far too open and empty and is quite unsettling to walk through.

The engineers and laborers who constructed this vessel reported many strange happenings, haunting visions, instances of bad luck, and abnormal incidents. It may be related to the design of the ship, in which case one thing is certain: This ship will only bond with a master that can tame and overpower it, someone exceptionally strong in the force.
