Private Minor Illegalities

Lily Decoria. The surname sounded vaguely familiar, though he couldn't quite place it.

No matter. The primary purpose had been to know who he was fighting, not to gather intel.

This time she moved offensively without any hesitation - and he met her in kind. Instead of evading her kicks, he met her foot with his own; he was perfectly willing to trade bruises while closing the distance.

As their legs collided he would do his best to make his boots the contact point.

Naturally, he only managed that some of the time.

Her attacks were relentless, she made sure to be attempting to wear him down. Her kicks targeting his joints and her punches were there to wear down his defences. Where she had been more defensive and restraint in her attacks with her training saber, Lily was fighting full on and demonstrating a highly aggressive manner with her Echani hand to hand combat.

However, her emotions were very restrained, she was not giving into her fears or anger. It seemed that her mind was in a bliss, a mindset where she just went with the flow. Her body was speaking a level of peace and balance that was not previously there, this fighting, these moves, they were done much more naturally and flowed much easier from her.

Lily was in her purest form when fighting like this, however, she was not a master of combat, it was just that she could express herself better. Fighting with no restraints or pressures, she was not attuning to the Force knowingly, but it was flowing through her stronger now than ever before. Now that her mind had relaxed more.

This meant that her strikes were moving faster, harder as she picked up the pace. Pressuring Marcis to be on the defensive now.

Marcis had been purposefully avoiding using the Force. With the exception of a bit of inevitable prescience, anyway.

While his mental state was not altogether dissimilar from that of the Jedi, there was a core difference in methodology - she was at her best when she allowed herself to 'go with the flow', whereas he needed to reach out and seize power. To bend the Force to his will in the manner taught to him by the Sith Overseers all those chronological years ago.

As such, he was pushed back on the defensive before he truly realised what was happening.

It started as a tingle when her fist grazed his torso, then another when her foot almost hit something he'd really rather it didn't. She was still leaning into the Force, still using it to guide her an empower her - like he should have been.

A flicker of annoyance passed over his features - he was breathing heavily, but steadily.

Without further ado, he began to do the same, responding to both her current and future position. As he did, their fight reached a frantic pace, fists and feet moving with a speed that would baffle your average buffoonish human.

Initially, Lily was surprised at how much faster and stronger that she was in comparison to the other Echani, she figured he would be stronger or at least be better at fighting hand to hand since his gauntlets were so reliant on it. However, Lily was holding the upper hand and she didn't even know how she was able to do it, how she was able to fight as well as she was. This was certainly the best she had fought another person in her memory. It felt amazing and she felt more connected to everything around her than she ever felt normally.

It was as if life was flowing through her and connecting her to everything. However, she held no clue as to why she suddenly felt this way. Could be that she was starting to master her abilities or that training with the Jedi had dulled her senses and this was bringing them back in a way that she had no clue this was all due to the Force.

For now, she kept fighting and noticed that Marcis was finally keeping up with her, "seems you decided to match my speed finally." Lily teased.

A mixture of annoyance and anger crossed Marcis' features, but it was quickly replaced by a more thoughtful expression.

"You didn't notice."

It was an observation, not a question - and unspecified, at that. She had not noticed the way in which she leaned into the Force, nor the way he did not. She had not noticed when he changed his approach - she had only seen the results.

Even without the trading saber, it would've been obvious that she was a novice.

There were ways in which that could be exploited, but those were not Marcis' speciality. More importantly, he had no intention of employing dishonourable tactics in hand-to-hand combat with a fellow Echani.

That did not mean he would not fight rough. With little in the way of warning, he surged forward, applying a great deal of pressure in very little time. His goal was simple - push her off balance, drive her to the ground, or grapple her outright. It was time to see how she would respond to a less graceful approach.

That would reveal much about her as a person.

"Notice what?"

Lily was puzzled, was there something she was missing? For herself, this was a fast duel but she was also in her element and able to communicate through her movements and fighting in a way that had been dulled for so long. As much as the Jedi were interesting spiritually and held a great deal of knowledge around the Force and life, their fighting was something that Lily always found herself was lacking. It was like there was a barrier between her and them, it made her miss home.

From this, Marcis went on the offensive, his tactics were not underhanded but they were attempting to make the fight messier. To turn from a standing brawl using fists and kicks, to a messy roll around in the muck of the ground as they wrestled. It was not something that Lily would be at a disadvantage over since she held a good bit of knowledge of how to grapple, create locks and opportunities from the ground, she just wasn't keen on rolling around in the muck. It would not be a pleasant look.

To counter this offensive from Marcis, Lily did her best to avoid attacks that would send her to the ground. However, she wasn't able to avoid every hit or strike, her body was getting sore and burning energy quickly. Inhaling deeply, Lily went back on the offensive, her strikes her attempting to wind Marcis. To feint then strike hard and knock the wind out of him. She was eager to prove she could match him in the attacking styles, that she was just as capable as he was. However, her endurance was being hammered away at and her body could only go for so long.

"You need better teachers."

It did not surprise him that her Jedi training stifled her ability to connect with a fight. They could be fierce warriors, to be sure, but their philosophy was too reactive. Too weak. Their ways lacked the ingrained militancy of a warrior born.

Speaking of, he was beginning to see hints of tiredness in her movements. He doubted she was approaching a breaking point just yet - he got the impression she knew how to push herself, after all. That said, he was confident he could push himself further yet; Echani training was harsh but the Sith took things further still. Or at least his teachers' had.

They were all dead by now, presumably. Pulled into the whirlpool of a dying Empire.

Her blow connected, drawing a sharp exhale from the Sith - but it did not stop his momentum. In a move that had more to do with his genuine enjoyment of the fight than tactical sense, he sought to grab onto her and flip her overhead and onto the ground. It had been too long since he had the pleasure of duelling a fellow Echani.

His words hit hard. Hit in a way that made her movements shift from respectful, intrigued about him and wanting to know more. Now she was aggressive, determined and focused on his demise. She would not allow him to insult her mentors. Her aunt who did so much and sacrificed so much in life to help Lily and others in general. Master Briana who had been incredibly supportive and patient with Lily over her struggles with the Force and help Lily become a better fighter and a more patient person.

How dare he judge them! How dare he call them bad! He held no right!

She was the failure, not their ways of teaching. She couldn't get it, she couldn't be the Jedi that they saw in her. However, in this moment, there was a glimpse of it. Her fears, her anxieties, it was pushed down, locked away as Lily developed the singular focus. Her body flowed more with the Force as it worked with her in a way that it hadn't in training. Her mind was so focused on ensuring that he regretted his words that she hadn't noticed that she was instinctively doing everything that her Master had been training her to do.

Her body went from the early stages of tiredness to developing a second wind. He had triggered her, ensured that this fight would be something she dedicated herself to fully. "I will make sure you regret those words. Your teachers were the bad ones!"

Lily let him attempt to flip her overhead on the ground but shifted in the air and punched his face. He had sacrificed his ability to defend his face in an attempt to throw her onto the ground. Lily was making sure he regretted that decision. She threw her punches faster than she had moved before. She was focused on hitting him as hard as she could but as fast as she could possibly move. Not caring if she broke his jaw, nose or eye. It was risking the fact that she would break her fist during it all as well.

That brought a fire to her eyes, while heightening her aggression.

Her teachers were a sore spot - or perhaps her receptiveness to their teachings was the sore spot?

If so it was possible she would fit in better among the Sith, but he was no recruitment officer.

Besides, he was busy throwing her overhead - and having his nose broken in the process.

Grinning ferally despite the pain, he attempted to complete the motion, though it was likely she would break free before hitting the ground. Either way, he would spin around, pressing the momentum while blood trickled down his chin.

"That's more like it," He exclaimed, a manic gleam in his eyes.

Lily was able to scramble her way out of being thrown onto the ground, standing on her feet once more. She wasn't tapping into the negative or anger that she had felt at the disrespect for her mentors, no, Lily was acknowledging such feelings in her fighting style but the Force moved through her in a neutral manner. The harm that Sith did to innocents and others was something that Lily would never be able to do, nor did she want to follow that path. Especially since it was a path that would take her away from those she cared for.

No, she was a Jedi and content with it. For now, she just needed to finish this fight with the Sith.

"Why be a Sith?" Lily was curious what would lead an Echani down that path, it seemed one that was antithetical to the way this man was, "you hold yourself as an honourable man and fighter but the Sith do not follow such values. Why follow them and their ways when you can be someone more, someone better than that?" Lily pointed out, she didn't think he would be a Jedi since he held too much anger and aggression but that didn't mean he needed to be a Sith.

Normally he would have continued to apply pressure until one of them dropped, but the questions she began warranted a brief pause; not that he expected either one of them to entirely stop attempting to down the other.

"Strength through conflict, Lily. An unused blade is often indistinguishable from a blunt blade."

The statement was punctuated by a series of rapid strikes, but they were not intended to do much.

"I will become stronger. Better. I have little interest in conquest or domination, however."

It had been a long time since he had communicated with, let alone met, a fellow Sith.
