Mindabaal Spaceport

Dunames Lopez

Megalomaniac CEO of Star Tours
Shortly after the Mindabaal Grand Prix, the time was there for Dunames to actually make use of the money so raised. She used this operation to for the First Order to actually raise funds for the victims of Kaeshana, even though it wasn't officially sanctioned. She played no active role in the more military aspect of it, but half the money raised was for Kaeshana and the other half for Mindabaal. Now, the local authorities gave her a list of infrastructure to be prioritized for reconstruction that they haven't actually gotten around to rebuild. Understandably they prioritized utilities and other infrastructure. Like housing, educational and healthcare infrastructure. For other infrastructure needs, they asked for private-sector investment. Transportation infrastructure, for instance. She was disappointed that, six years after the disaster occurred, progress has been sluggish. The Sith Order did carpet bombings all over the place, causing the deaths of millions but also losing much of its airpower in the process.

Dear [member="Max Fel"],

The cash-strapped local authorities on Mindabaal called on the private sector to rebuild their transportation infrastructure. Understandably, due to the dwindling tax base, the local authorities have made heavy usage of public-private partnerships, and I would like to discuss an opportunity with Fel Royal Enterprises for one of the big-ticket public works projects, namely, the refurbishment of the planet's main spaceport. Please let me know what works for you, either an in-person or a HoloNet discussion.

Waking up, Max made his way to grab a drink for the morning. His company new, and to many unproven, however he was determined to make sure it gained a positive reputation among some groups. A holocall arrived just as he sat down "Good morning, Mr. Fel. I'm calling to inform you that your planetary and company finances are all in order. You may safely proceed with operations." "Thank you" Max replied, nodding curtly. Opening his messages, he was pleased to see that someone had offered him an opportunity to project company operations. None less than Star Tours, in fact.

Dear [member="Dunames Lopez"],

I appreciate you contacting me for this opportunity. Of course, I am fully willing to discuss the refurbishment of the spaceport. Unfortunately, I cannot meet you in person, which I apologise for, however I am more than happy to discuss this via HoloNet.

Sincerely,
Max Fel

That was to be expected: holoconferences were common in the shipping business and the spaceport infrastructure. Mindabaal went through a lot of Sith-induced destruction, as well as casualties, and five years was not enough to rebuild the entire thing. Then again, since the Sith's image is irremediably tarnished on that planet, she had to make sure that [member="Max Fel"] wasn't a Sith, or else the whole deal would fall apart. After the mishap on Jiroch-Reslia, where it built an amusement park on a dark side nexus, Star Tours had to do its part in cleaning up its image, starting with Endor, where it signed a contract to be the stewards of the Ewok Preservation Fund, in exchange of which they are to help grow back the crops on Endor, to the standards appropriate for such a primitive species.

"Uh, boss, the First Order authorities told us that it was premature to use any funds from the fundraiser towards anything relative to Kaeshana"

"This means that all the cash from the fundraiser will go towards helping those people on Mindabaal, which means that we can pay for the reconstruction of the spaceport without having to rely on public funding"

--------------------------------

Let's begin by saying that the only areas that the local authorities actually got around to rebuild in the past five years, given the limited budget, is what they call the private spaceflight section, for those with private spacecraft. For a while it worked for small-scale space travel activity, but they realize that they are about to hit an infrastructure bottleneck until the spaceport is rebuilt in full. Now, I understand that spaceport design is quite complex, but there are three remaining areas to be rebuilt: the passenger terminal, for which 20 gates capable of accommodating commercial flights of various sizes would be requested, the cargo area, the airbase, capable of playing host to three squadrons of fighters, and their respective tarmacs. Might be a little large, but better think for the long term, and ensure that the infrastructure bottleneck is cleared.

--------------------------------

Max wrote down the areas the needed to be constructed, then began looking through his resources to find an appropriate idea of how the spaceport would be built. This size of spaceport would certainly allow Mindabaal the kind of trafficing capabilities they required, being an inner rim planet.

--------------------------------

The cargo area and airbase should be relatively straightforward. The gates themselves happen to vary considerably more, however I believe that a compact design such as this would work. The four towers would function as the passenger areas, whilst the middle area is large enough to hold a surprisingly large vessel in each of the four places near the tower, usually four. The middle itself would still leave some room for some smaller craft as well. This would ensure a more compact placement.

What [member="Max Fel"] showed was, in essence, a concept much like Flashpoint Spaceport on Cademimu, with the difference that Flashpoint Spaceport was having the larger ships dock on the higher levels, with the control tower on top of these jetways. Even so, Flashpoint Spaceport could only handle ships up to 200m long. Would that prove to be the case on Mindabaal? It suffered a lot under the hands of the Sith, and its residents would hate Sith for decades to come. Flashpoint Spaceport was great because it showed that it was possible to service spaceports in inner cities in dense population centers. Karideph, Nar Shaddaa, Coruscant, Denon were also worlds where it was attempted with mixed results. Mindabaal had a podrace circuit built for a rather low cost, given the circumstances. Now that the rubble field that used to be a spaceport has been mostly cleared by salvagers of all kinds...

-------------------------------

The design sample provided is suitable for building with the land areas earmarked for the spaceport's reconstruction. But simply constructing the building proper is not the end of the story: is it OK if I could subcontract other parties for the systems you cannot provide for? Assuming there actually are systems you cannot provide for...
