Private Mice in the Walls

JEDI TEMPLE, CORUSCANT
Zoar loved hiding in the Jedi Temple.

The ancient structure had been mostly repaired to it's previous state since the Brotherhood nearly destroyed it in their attack on Coruscant. But faulty wiring, either holdovers from broken sections, or put in place by people in a rush job, were all-too-common. If one knew where to look, there were cubbies and crawlspaces spiderwebbing the building, following along electrical and plumbing lines. Giving a person small enough, and anti-claustriphobic enough, the perfect place to be alone and fix things.

The softest of humming could be heard from in the hallway between the padawan's quarters and the kitchen, as a small Miln was hard at work replacing wires in the walls. Sandwiched between stone, tail twitching behind him in satisfaction, Zoar's hydrospanner cut through old material, while he masterfully threaded in newer, better stuff.

He couldn't talk to people, couldn't even be in the same room as people, without freaking out. At least this way, he could do some good with his solitude.

Another day at the temple. Another failed training session with one of the older masters. For Sivoy Pok, it was a lot of pressure on him. As a Jawa, not many of his kind got the opportunity to become a Jedi. As far as he knew, he was the only Jawa in the entire New Jedi Order. Yet, the Nevarro-born Padawan was not without his shortcomings.

Sivoy's mind tended to be easily distracted or become hyperfixated on details. He gotten better at controlling it, but that does not mean he does not have his bad days. Like today. A simple exercise in telekinesis. Making a small object float off of a pedestal. But Sivoy was unable to quiet his mind, and could only make the object roll.....right onto the instructor's foot.

So like always, the Jawa sought out a place to quiet his mind. He offered his help in fixing a section in the temple that was damaged in an attack by the Maw. Sivoy was always good at fixing things, and found it almost mediative.

Thus, the Jawa found himself in the walls of the temple. A section between the Padawan corridor and the kitchens. As he made his way through, he heard faint humming and sounds of tools. He rounded a corner and found the source: a rodent-like sentient.

«"Uh, hello?"» He gave a sheepish wave to the other being, «"Would you like some help?"»

Sivoy prayed to the Force that this other could understand Jawaspeak. Otherwise, this was going to be a very difficult exchange.

Zoar squeaked in sudden, ear-splitting terror, seeing glowing eyes in the dark.

Without stopping to think, the Miln was running, escaping further into the walls, his box of neatly-packed wiring falling behind him. It took the little mechanic a few seconds of panicked escape to realize that he was in the Jedi temple, and the being in the dark was probably another Jedi.

Zoar forced himself to stop his feverish pace, and take a few deep, meditative breaths. He turned around, shouting back the way he came, still attempting to stay out of sight.

"Ummm... Hellooo? Sorry about that, you... spooked me, a little, 's'all." Zoar frowned. What language had the other being been speaking? It was a little difficult to tell, in the mad scramble to escape.

The Jawa stepped back a little himself as he heard the other rodent scurry off in fear. He did not mean to frighten him. Yet, he supposed that the glinting eyepieces on his mask may have looked frightening to another. This other being seemed rather skittish, and to further complicate things was the fact that his unexpected companion did not understand his language. He knew that he would have to rely on limited communication.

"Sivoy. Is. Friend. Jedi." He spoke, his Basic accented and disjointed, "Sivoy. Jawa. Sivoy. Help?"

To anyone listening, while he could speak very limited Basic, it sounded almost painful for him to attempt the words. He gently tapped the side of the wall where there were more repairs to emphasize his point. He made sure not to move in any way that would appear threatening to the Miln. He just wanted to be of help for once.

The mousy features of Zoar's face broke into a nervous smile. A Jawa? He'd heard of them, but he'd never met one before. Peeking at the brown-cloaked jedi from the darkness, Zoar nodded. "Oh! Language barrier! One sec."

The ring of neural cybernetics gracing Zoar's cheeks lit up with pink highlights as he accessed the Holonet. It was only a short moment, before he spoke up again. "Okay, I've got a universal translator running. I can't... speak Jawaese, but I can understand it now. With a three second delay..." He added quietly.

"I'm Zoar. Nice to meet you, Sivoy... Um... If you know how to put in new wiring, I wouldn't mind the help." The Miln stayed in his semi-hidden position, cautiously watching the decidedly non-threatening padawan.
