BACKGROUND

Miann Kinea remembers little about her parents beyond a collection of disconnected images: a narrow apartment, the smell of boiled grain and a woman humming while rain struck the windows. By the time she was old enough to understand what death meant, both of them were gone.

She spent several years passing through overcrowded institutions on Mirial. Miann was intelligent but difficult, prone to stealing food, disappearing for days and inventing elaborate lies whenever anyone tried to discipline her. She quickly learned that adults were more likely to overlook theft if they were entertained by the explanation.

It was the beginning of a lifelong talent for presenting people with the version of events they most wanted to believe. Her escape from Mirial came aboard the Wayward Vice, an aging freighter commanded by the Devaronian smuggler Captain Daro Venn. Miann initially boarded the vessel while attempting to steal supplies.

Rather than turn her over to the authorities, Daro offered her a place among the crew. He insisted that anyone clever enough to bypass his cargo locks deserved either employment or a very thorough beating. Daro became the closest thing Miann ever had to a father. He taught her how to recognize customs patrol patterns, conceal contraband within legitimate cargo and tell when a potential client was planning to kill everyone after delivery.

Miann eventually became the freighter's primary gunner. She was not the finest shot in the galaxy, but she remained calm under fire and possessed an instinctive understanding of how enemies moved during pursuit. For nearly fifteen years, the crew of the Wayward Vice was her family.

That ended on Coruscant. A failed delivery left the freighter trapped in the lower levels while local law enforcement closed every available escape route. Daro intended to shoot their way through a security cordon, despite knowing that several members of the crew would almost certainly die. Miann was contacted privately and offered immunity in exchange for the ship's transponder codes, cargo manifests and the location of Daro's emergency landing site.

She accepted. Miann escaped custody while Daro and several members of the crew were arrested. Others disappeared into Coruscant's underworld. She told herself that there had been no other choice, that Daro's plan would have killed them all and that he would have made the same decision in her place. She has repeated those arguments so many times that she almost believes them.

For the next several years, Miann drifted between temporary employment. She served as a hired gunner, cargo inspector, debt collector, bartender and occasional courier. She avoided permanent crews, refusing to place herself in a position where someone might depend upon her again.

Her travels eventually brought her to Trigalis. New Coronet was dangerous, corrupt and thoroughly accustomed to people who preferred not to discuss their pasts. For Miann, it was perfect. Using savings of questionable origin, she purchased a neglected cantina and transformed it into the Rampaging Rancor.

The establishment became a popular stop for smugglers, mercenaries and independent captains passing through Black Sun territory. Miann provides drinks, rented rooms, discreet meeting spaces and whatever information happens to have crossed her bar. Some of that information is accurate. Some is exaggerated.

A small portion is invented entirely because Miann enjoys watching armed criminals argue over whether a legendary treasure ship really vanished near the Trigalis system. The Rampaging Rancor does not make her wealthy, but it gives her something she never possessed before: a place that belongs to her. Business rises and falls with the criminal economy, yet Miann has little interest in expanding beyond New Coronet. She does not dream of becoming a crime lord, conquering territory or changing the galaxy.
PERSONALITY

Miann presents herself as an affable and slightly theatrical hostess. She remembers regular customers, keeps track of preferred drinks and can transform an otherwise uneventful evening into an elaborate performance. Her stories frequently begin with harmless exaggerations and end with her claiming personal responsibility for events that occurred before she was born.

This charm is genuine, but it also serves as a defensive mechanism. Miann controls conversations through humor because sincere discussions make her uncomfortable. She can describe a fictional gunfight for twenty minutes without hesitation, yet becomes evasive when asked about the Wayward Vice or Captain Daro Venn.

She is practical without being needlessly cruel. Miann understands that New Coronet is filled with dangerous people, but she refuses to turn the Rampaging Rancor into a den of open violence. Customers may threaten, cheat and insult one another, but anyone drawing a weapon inside her establishment is removed and permanently barred. Maintaining this rule has earned her a surprising amount of respect.

Miann is deeply protective of her staff, although she avoids expressing that affection openly. She raises wages without explanation, repairs damaged equipment before anyone asks and quietly pays medical expenses while insisting the credits came from an anonymous customer. She fears that acknowledging how much they matter would give others power over her.

Although she claims to be comfortable with her life, part of Miann remains restless. She listens closely whenever a ship captain describes distant worlds and occasionally spends hours studying old hyperspace charts after closing. She does not truly miss smuggling. She misses belonging to something larger than a building and being certain that the people beside her would still be there the following morning.

STRENGTHS
Underworld Experience
Miann has spent most of her adult life among smugglers, thieves and mercenaries. She understands how illegal cargo is moved, how bribes are disguised and how criminal crews communicate without openly revealing their intentions. While she is no longer an active smuggler, she can identify an inexperienced captain or undercover officer within minutes of conversation.

Her knowledge is practical rather than encyclopedic. Miann may not know the name of every syndicate lieutenant, but she knows which docking officials can be bribed, which mechanics ask too many questions and which shipping routes are commonly watched.

Calm Under Pressure

Years spent operating a freighter's weapon systems taught Miann how to function while everything around her was falling apart. She rarely freezes during emergencies and can quickly divide a complicated problem into manageable tasks. This makes her an effective organizer when the cantina is attacked, raided or caught between rival criminal groups.

Her composure also makes her difficult to intimidate. Miann understands that most threats are performances meant to provoke fear. She is willing to smile, pour another drink and wait for the other person to reveal what they actually want.

Social Awareness

Miann is skilled at reading posture, tone and changes in behavior. Years behind a bar have sharpened her ability to recognize nervous customers, concealed grudges and negotiations approaching violence. She often knows that a confrontation is coming before the participants themselves have admitted it.

She uses this awareness to steer conversations without appearing controlling. A well-timed joke, free drink or carefully chosen rumor can redirect an entire room.

Adaptability

Miann has survived as a gunner, smuggler, bartender, courier and criminal intermediary. She is comfortable learning unfamiliar work and rarely considers any legal or illegal task beneath her. When one plan fails, she does not waste time mourning it before looking for another.

This adaptability is one reason the Rampaging Rancor has survived inconsistent business. Miann can transform the establishment from a quiet cantina into a gambling hall, temporary mercenary office or private auction house whenever credits become scarce.

WEAKNESSES
Self-Preservation at the Expense of Loyalty

Miann wants to believe that betraying Daro Venn was an isolated decision made under impossible circumstances. In truth, she possesses a deeply ingrained instinct to preserve herself before anyone else. When trapped and frightened, she may begin looking for someone else to sacrifice, even when cooperation would provide a better solution.

She is ashamed of this part of herself, but shame has not removed it. Miann's greatest personal challenge would be facing another situation where escape requires abandoning people who trust her.

Emotional Avoidance

Miann is excellent at forming casual relationships but struggles with genuine intimacy. She changes the subject when conversations become personal and uses humor to prevent others from seeing when she is hurt. This behavior often leaves those closest to her uncertain whether their affection is truly returned.

Her staff may consider her family, but Miann refuses to use that word. She fears that naming the relationship would make its eventual loss unbearable.

Manipulative Storytelling

Miann lies almost instinctively. Many of her deceptions are harmless embellishments, but she also alters information to protect herself, encourage business or steer dangerous people away from subjects she would rather avoid. She sometimes convinces herself that manipulation is acceptable because the listener was already expecting dishonesty.

This tendency makes it difficult for others to trust her when she is finally sincere. Even close associates may assume that Miann's confessions are merely another carefully constructed performance.

Complacency

Miann insists that she is satisfied with her current life, but comfort has gradually become an excuse to avoid confronting difficult choices. She allows Black Sun influence to grow around her as long as the syndicate leaves the cantina alone. She ignores injustices that do not directly threaten her business and dismisses larger conflicts as problems belonging to more ambitious people.
