STANDARD FEATURES
- Phrik-B construction in the housing and framework of these projectors makes them excessively durable. Their casings also come ready to accept various protective laminates to allow for their quick repurposing for various worlds, allowing for flexible redeployments or mountings on various vehicles/equipment. Also lightweight due to the strength of the building materials requiring little materials to achieve said durability.
- Rigorous testing and fine tuning controls and sensors allows for units to have extreme accuracy in their control over various projected/manipulated fields. This allows for exceptional accuracy and precision in the use of this projector both in manipulation of various fields of energy, but also their replication.
SPECIAL FEATURES
- This Projector allows for previously the impossible for those not sensitive to the Force, the ability to tap into and manipulate the spectrum of energy of The Force and adjacent energies on that spectrum. This Projector allows for very basic controls of these fields, for example not allowing for the use of Force Abilities, but instead control over the various fields that might be generated by the Force. This would allow repulsion of the negative effects of Dark Side nexuses, concentration of light side auras into concentrations of energy, or even the manipulation of those fields to see what happens when they interact. This is also true for force adjacent energy, such as the fields produced by Ysalamiri, allowing for even more in depth study as to energy field manipulation and interaction.
- It also allows for the replication of fields that occur, and allows for those fields to be controlled precisely by the users. This means that you can generate a small sphere of Dark Side Energy, Light Side Energy, or even Ysalamiri Field Energy (and more) in a controlled bubble. The ability to replicate these fields of energy allows for the projectors to not only be used with fields of science and study, but also in protection and regulation. For example if you're a group of explorers heading to a dangerous Dark Side Nexus with the intent to study it, you could carry a few man-portable versions of this projector in place of a personal shield to protect yourselves from the Dark Side Aura. You could use it to safely generate a miniaturized version for preliminary testing of materials and sensors allowing for better preparations for such expeditions. This also isn't limited to the current understanding of energies on the Force Spectrum, as it allows for expansion into Force Adjacent energies as well (for example Ysalamiri fields).
- The basis for this technology is founded on simple principles that can be observed by Force Sensitives currently, and through them the very nature of the Force can be seen. The force is an unseen energy that acts outside of the normal realm of observation. This is seen as the Force is said to inhabit all things, and is an energy because it can not only empower being sensitive to it to do acts considered otherwise impossible, but also grant the ability to said individuals to perform acts that can only be defined as magic. The Force has a method of operation and influence, which found in organics is mostly through a micro-organism known as Midi-Chlorians. These organisms act as the bridge between Force Users/Force Sensitives and the Force itself, allowing larger organisms to see, interact and otherwise experience the full effects of the Force. In Ysalamir, they have an organ which allows them to project their force negation field which brings me to my third point. The Force behaves like an energy field, meaning it can be influenced by factors outside of Midi-Chlorians. This is seen through naturally occurring phenomena such as nexuses, organisms like Ysalamir and the Yhuzan Vong, or actions like mass death and destruction which create wounds in the Force. The Force can be repelled via other forces on the same spectrum (ala Ysalamir/Yhuzan Vong), it can be attracted to certain things and individuals, and this is why it was regarded that the more Midi-Chlorians an individual carried the more potential for individual force power they had. So by tuning in technologies with this spectrum of energy, you can begin to influence the spectrum rather crudely.
- This would allow for you to generate fields of Force Energy artificially, making light side or dark side bubbles of influence that because they are artificial they go away when the generator stops working. You can study the effects of this on materials, like how long does it take to leave a lasting mark on a material, how long said mark lasts, and what does that do to the molecular structure of said material? You can use this to create basic materials, such as a permanent neutralizer for Sith Poison, because while chemically neutralizing the poison for Sith Poison gets rid of contaminants for the body, the Dark Side taint will remain as it permanently alters the body. You can use this to generate minor fields that act as shields in very destabilized regions due to Force Storms and particularly violent Nexuses. You can use this to generate an aura of Light Side energy to help establish a calming effect on patients in a medical facility, reducing work load and allowing for medical practitioners (FS or not) to focus on actual healing. And of course it can empower creative Force Sensitive individuals to allow them to explore the true limits of what they can do.
STRENGTHS
- Precise field replication and manipulation: This projector allows for the replication of Force and Force Adjacent energies in a controlled and precise manner. This would render such things as Ysalamiri nutrient frames obsolete both in their capacity to generate energy fields, and their lack of any ability to precisely control it. On top of this, these projectors are able to produce more than one kind of field, allowing for their use not only as protective devices, but also in their original intended capacity as tools for research. Their modularity also allows for these devices to either be scaled down to something that a person can easily carry as an individual, or scaled up to starship level. This allows for more research to be done with higher concentrations of energy, or can generate larger fields.
WEAKNESSES
- Effects are not permanent: Another huge limitation of this technology is that anything that it generates, such as fields of light, dark or adjacent energy is not permanent. Force Users and other beings are able to more intuitively and intricately tap into the cosmic energy of The Force, allowing them much finer control over this energy. This allows them to create things, and otherwise weave permanent impressions in the force such as rifts, wounds, nexuses, and holocrons. This technology doesn't allow for any of that. Once the field is turned off, its effects are much faster to go away as the natural state of the Force will seek to correct an anomaly that has occurred. To put it simply, this thing works like a balloon under water, with power being supplied to the machine being the air behind the balloon. If the power goes away, the balloon collapses, and vice versa. With this technology you are barely scratching the surface at the living and cosmic Force, meaning it is very simple, very finite in its capabilities, while Force Users can essentially do almost anything.
- Tip of the Iceberg Syndrome: To put it as simply as possible, this machine in Force is about as basic as an electromagnet in magnetism. You can turn it on or off. You can determine its charge/alignment (attraction/repulsion, Light Side, Dark Side, Other). You can determine how powerful the field is, and how large it is (bigger than a person and power demands start getting exponential). But that's relatively it. To actually understand the manipulation of the Force and its energy, to create lasting impacts or otherwise do something as simple as levitate objects, you need to essentially replicate midi-chlorians themselves and then replicate all of the finer points of control from a biological standard (which btw they tried in canon, and it went badly). Compared to non-force user technology this leap in capabilities will be a huge milestone (because now you're not lugging around a ysalamir), but to Force Users it's child's play. Being able to fully channel and control the different waves and spectrums of energy that make up the Force is something beyond machinery without a Force User imbuing it with said abilities. In essence, this machine is the tip of the iceberg.
- Complex Manipulation not possible: Like the title says. Many Force Powers are very complex manipulations of the energy both inside and surrounding Force Users. Things like Force Healing, Lightning, Push, Persuasion, Body, Speed, Tutaminis, Kill, Breath, Flight, Jump, etc., so on and so forth (I can keep going if you want) are a user exercising very complex and intricate control over the power of the Force. And while this machine might (keyword there) enhance an already capable user's powers, it cannot replicate them. Period. End of Story. Nada. Nope. It can do only what it is explicitly built and designed to do, which is to either perform simple field manipulation (ala attract/repel) or simple field generation/replication (stated above).
DESCRIPTION
One of the first developments during the Exodus's first excursion was the creation of energy field projectors capable of holding back the energies of Force Storms in the vastness of space. This development was a huge necessity as while the current protective laminates of the station they all called home could hold, such laminates couldn't be expected to hold forever. This is due to the laminates relatively fragile nature compared to most forms of armor and protective coatings as while they were excellent at repelling the dangers of corrosives, force storms, or other forms of danger, they were weak to things such as micro-meteorites. And during a force storm which is essentially the purest form of chaos, the normal protective qualities of shields were absolutely useless, as the storms themselves could render shields inoperable in seconds. This made ship travel in these storms nigh impossible if not excessively dangerous, as the only way to possibly survive was to hole up in something with armor that thick and layered. This would change however with the discovery of Aetherial and Umbral energy fields, and the spectrum of energy that most sensitive to it simply called "The Force".
This discovery would lead to sensors capable of detecting this energy spectrum effectively and more importantly, an energy projector that's capable of replicating or manipulating those fields of energy. And while that level of control was still nothing compared to the magical powers of say a Jedi or Sith, this breakthrough was huge to those on the Exodus. It allowed for study of these fields with various materials to find possible alternatives to current protective laminates that don't need to be grown and manufactured in painstakingly exact circumstances, and also making them much better at doing so. It also allows for the protection against various fields both of The Force and Force Adjacent energies, as the projectors can act as sort of a shield or anchor of sorts. Its ability to replicate very stable fields of Force Energy allow for very chaotic storms or overwhelming Dark Side auras to be mitigated by these projectors. In short, this tool allows for those not normally attuned or trained in the arts of The Force to now either study it, or defend themselves against it in some capacity. Is it as powerful and capable as training and sensitivity to the Force? No. But it does give the other side something help, or for some creative force users a tool to enhance their own abilities.
