Codex Denied Metahuman

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a unique species for my characters. To enhance their history and flesh out their personalities.
  • Canon: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Links: Aviprine
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Metahuman
  • Designation: Sentient
  • Origins: Aviprine
  • Average Lifespan: 200 - 250 years
  • Estimated Population: Rare
  • Description: At first glance Metahumans look very much like average humans except they can have differing hair and eye colors than average humans. Upon further exploration metahumans have musical voices and are otherworldly in their beauty. Each metahuman is a form of mutant and often has one ability that manifests during puberty that they cannot always control. If the metahuman is Force sensitive (most of them are) they can be extremely volatile and dangerous when trying to learn mastery of the Force.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type 1
  • Average Height of Adults: males: 1.82 meters - 1.6 females
  • Average Length of Adults: N/A
  • Skin color: Most are pale white but it is possible for their skin tone to be darker
  • Hair color: red, black, blonde, blue, pink, brown, white, gold
  • Distinctions: There is a faint glow to their skin and their eyes are often vibrant bright colors
  • Races: N/A There are so few of them
  • Force Sensitivity: High
Strengths:
  • Very gifted in the Force
  • Musical voices make them extra charismatic and persuasive
  • Very beautiful
Weaknesses:
  • Mutation - each has a mutation in their gene that makes one Force ability difficult to control. It can take them a lifetime to learn to control their powers
  • Genetics - A lot of them believe in purifying their bloodline so there is a lot of interbreeding that weakens the gene pool
CULTURE
  • Diet: Omnivore
  • Communication: Galactic Standard Basic
  • Technology level: Standard
  • Religion/Beliefs: There is no religion attached to this group. Many adapt religions of the galaxy or make up religions, but there is no unifying religion unique to the species.
  • General behavior: Metahumans behave like most typical humans. They form romantic attachments and give birth to families. They exercise and enjoy holo entertainment. Some of them have a very old fashioned "pure blood" belief where they do not want their children marrying non metahumans, but the newer generation is less traditional. They raise children, go to work, travel the galaxy etc. The thing that really sets them apart is their dangerous abilities and how hard it is for them to control it. Each metahuman has one Force power that is mutated and difficult to control. It can be very dangerous for the metahuman. This ability manifests around puberty and is different for every metahuman.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Some metahumans believe they were originally human but the first bloodline was cursed by a Dathomiri witch which mutated them. Other metahumans believe this is just an old wives tale and that the mutation is because so many of the species practice the belief of keeping the blood pure and only allowing their sons and daughters to marry other metahumans. The species originated on Aviprine when four children were born with flawed Force abilities. These four children trained in the ways of the Force and had children that also carried the mutation. Some of the species believed this mutation was a gift and encouraged children from the four families to marry each other to keep their species going. There have never been a large number of metahumans in the galaxy.

During the Galactic Imperial War a metahuman bounty hunter became well known for his uncanny tracking abilities. He brought in several targets and was one of the bounty hunters considered to hunt Han Solo. Eventually he was dismissed because Darth Vader believed him too unstable for the job.

Under Review Kitter Bitters Kitter Bitters

The Codex team discussed this submission, and we have some concerns due to the "No Crossover" rule. This submission seems to borrow heavily from superhero stories and concepts, particularly the mutants of Marvel's X-Men. Let's talk about some things we'd need to look at changing before we can move to approval.

  • The term "Metahuman" is too close to Marvel superhero canon. In a galaxy where humans (and countless other species) can develop Force gifts, singling out "metahumans" feels out of place, and Metas are closely associated with superheroes across multiple different comics universes. In order to conform to the general spirit of Star Wars, let's look at a different name.

  • The term "mutant" is not necessarily off-limits; Star Wars has a variety of mutants, such as Sithspawn. However, when "mutant" means "beautiful human with unusual hair and/or eye color and special powers", it's a bit too close to the X-Men. If you want a genetic offshoot of humans with slightly different characteristics, it would be better to call them a separate Near-Human species.

  • Dangerous abilities that manifest around puberty, one per metahuman, that they struggle to control, again feels very X-Men. Force gifts don't tend to work that way in Star Wars. There is no X Factor that leads to random powers in children; specific powers tend to flow in bloodlines, like families or species gifted in psychometry or battle meditation. Further, Force-users don't generally get a singular superpower type of gift; connection to the Living Force is a gateway to many different kinds of abilities.

If you want to have a humanlike species with powerful but unstable Force talents, we can do that, but we'd need to look at all of these changes. The two ways to move forward here would be to make a unique species with a unique culture that is more than just super-powered humans, or to ditch the Codex and make a human PC (and / or NPCs) who have the Force gifts you want to use to tell your story.

I think this might be the best option.

So would I be able to say that the bloodline itself produces humans who struggle to control some of their Force abilities? Or have weaknesses against certain abilities? Thats really all I want to do is have some IC reason why my character has weaknesses.
