- Intent: A pyronium-based navigational aid. Yes, I'm still having too much fun finding new uses for pyronium.
- Image Source: The Mercury Lighthouse, Destiny 2, found at https://www.artstation.com/artwork/Q32Od
- Canon Link: N/A
- Restricted Missions: N/A (T6 with Pyronium specialty)
- Primary Source: Pyronium
- Manufacturer: The Wretched Hive
- Model: Merrill Lighthouse
- Affiliation: Closed Market (ask first), Outer Rim Coalition
- Modularity: Can be installed in buildings, stations, or starships at or above Frigate rating.
- Production: Semi-Unique (Only A Handful of Characters)
- Material: Electronics, pyronium
- Puts out high-energy omnidirectional hyperspace radiance.
- Hyperspace radiance backlights hyperspace turbulence between the lighthouse and an observer; clear signal strength means it's perfectly safe to jump directly to the lighthouse.
- Hyperspace radiance includes jump coordinates for lighthouse; this signal can be encrypted.
- Range up to 500 light-years, five times as far as a capital subspace transceiver.
- Power hog (can only be installed in starships of Frigate rating or larger, and semi-unique manufacture or lower).
- Anyone within 500 light-years - pirates, invaders, slavers, alien unmentionables - has a good chance of detecting the lighthouse, understanding its signal, and jumping directly to it.
Apply energy to pyronium and, eventually, it'll start shunting that energy into a localized hyperspatial matrix. A Merrill Lighthouse amplifies and focuses that matrix to produce a powerful energy signature within hyperspace. Whether flying in realspace or hyperspace, virtually any modern starship can detect the energy signature. Since the Lighthouse transmits that signature through hyperspace, rather than realspace, the mass shadow of a planet or an interdictor will dim but not eliminate the signal.
Deploy a Merrill Lighthouse in turbulent space, such as the Hard Roil, the Maw, the Deep Core, or the Kathol Rift. You'll soon find it's worth its weight in aurodium. When hyperspace turbulence would make your jumps short and dangerous, a Merrill Lighthouse's dimmed energy signature will show you it's not safe to go that way. Make a short jump somewhere else, however, and maybe the signature is brighter from that angle. Use a Merrill Lighthouse in conjunction with hyperspace beacons and/or S-thread boosters, and you'll fly through the most hazardous space with a song in your heart.
Jorus Merrill, incidentally, didn't name the Lighthouse after himself. The Wretched Hive's chief engineers, Dingo Darr and Shenna'vala, named the technology while he was presumed dead or lost, after the Battle of Utapau.
