The Ruins: The ruins of the reactor are rather important in society both as a pilgrimage site and as a neutral ground between nations to discuss treaties and do diplomacy. A large part of the old husk of a reactor are dedicated to embassies to discuss peacce treaties between nations. Attacking this location is considered dishonorable in every respect and ordering an attack on it is an international crime.

Graeldor: Graeldor is the largest city on Merides by a long shot, the city is home to the massive, sprawling Imperial Palace which was built over 20 years by The Lord himself from which he ruled his empire. The city boasts a (relatively) massive population of 1.7 million people going about their day to day lives. It is the cosmopolitan center of Meridian culture and it is a center of fine arts, technology, and culture and has been for thousands of years. The city is the capital of the kingdom of the same name, which itself is as impressive as the city for which it is named.

Trelwyn: Trelwyn is a major city located in the fridgid northern continent. It is surrounded by beautiful Boreal Forests and striking mountainscapes. It is the largest city on the northern continent and is one of the very few “Free Cities” or cities not bound to any larger country that act independently of others. It is a center for literature and a common location for landscape paintings. It also forms the backbone of trade on the northern continent, feeding the smaller satellite cities.

Trelwyn Crater: Trelwyn crater is a large crater located outside of Trelwyn. It is a common pilgrimage site for worship of The Lord and is extremely well traveled. While well known among the upper class, but not so much among the serfs, this site was originally called Trelwyn Communications Array as it is actually a mossed over, extremely dilapidated communications dish from the golden age of Merides, it however has not been used in millennia and is now indistinguishable from any other crater except for the occassional exposed concrete.

Shattered Sea: The shattered sea was the sea that was created during The Shattering the event that split the original supercontinent into the three distinct continents you see today. It is extremely rocky and difficult to navigate in any way besides moving directly from one continent to the next, many who try to navigate it die in the process. It is also a land of great riches, many valuable aquatic animals reside in the rocky waters of the shattered sea, and many see it as a way out of the life of a poor serf, as many have succeeded in making empires on the backs of these "Money Fish", however, the ones who succeed are the ones with a long history on the water, and most novice "Greenhorns" who go out, never return.

Dryrock: One of the few cities to actually spring up in the inhospitable desert continent, it is built upon one of the few rivers in the desert in order to provide water and cooling to the city, and it has grown on trading rare spices and herbs to the other two continents. It is one of the richest cities on the planet next to Graeldor and is the home of the massive Taeldari Trade Empire. Almost all those who live in the desert pass through dry rock once a year to pick up vital supplies that they need to survive in the harsh conditions of the desert enviornment
Culture: The Planet is based around a feudal system; with all factions claiming their power from the original Jedi Lord that controlled the planet for many years. The planet is split into two continents separated by a small sea. There are many factions they include: the descendants of the Jedi Lord’s followers (Knights), worshipers of the malignant gods (Sith Gods), and the relatively recently arrived Vong. The knights live in a feudal society in which various kings lay a certain claim to the throne of the Jedi Lords original empire. Kings hold the closest claim, while lesser nobles have lesser claims than the kings and as such have sworn fealty to said king for protection from Vong raiders and other Kings.. This chains together with lesser lords swearing fealty to greater lords and to the king which leads to a long complicated line of succession for any title which must be kept track of using what little advanced technology is available.
Peasants are at the bottom of the feudal food chain, they are given land to farm by the lords in exchange for most of their crop, while the peasants are allowed to keep enough food to survive on. The Peasants are extremely poor and not well off, they have little to no money and live in near destitute conditions, and rely on civil services provided by lords in order to entertain themselves, and often times they barely have enough food to survive. Above them are the lords, who have many different classes but in terms of the law they are equal (in practice it is rather different). The “lowest” class of lord is a knight, knights are highly trained warriors and often swear themselves to landed lords and are given food and large quantities of money in exchange for providing their skills. Most lord's start out as knights and remain so until they are landed by inheriting their parents land, after that they move up to whatever their parents position was before. Knights live rather modestly for lords, but they are still light years above peasants, peasants could only dream of the luxury in which a knight lives. There are many classes of lord, the smallest of which is a Baron, a Baron inherits a Barony, usually one city or town, they are rather weak in terms of influence and power, but they are still extremely rich and powerful compared to peasants. Next up is counts, they hold a county, a small unit which is composed of multiple baronies. Dukes rule duchies composed of multiple counties. Kings have kingdoms made of multiple duchies and these are the largest type of noble. Each noble class is successively richer than the last, with kings being astronomically rich (for the most part), and rule large swaths of land.
Religion on the planet is based around its close history with the New Sith Wars, and especially the jedi lord that arrived to push out the Sith. The Jedi lord pushed out the Sith, but not their cultists, leading to one religion being formed making the sith lords gods under a polytheistic religion. Once the lord died, a second religion formed over thousands of years, raising the jedi lord to the status of god followed by the knights. The religion states that the knights must remain on the planet until the dark side is defeated for good, then they can leave to bring light to the entire galaxy. While this is not the light side as known by the modern Jedi, it is more of their core value of honor. King's claim their power from being descendants of this jedi lord, and while all force sensitivity had long been bred out of the kings, they still claim to be the true heirs to his throne. The sith are all anarchist worshipers of chaos that wish to bring chaos and anarchy to to the planet in a corruption of sith values by the original cultists over thousands of years, this makes the cultists some of the most dangerous threats to the nights next to the Yuuzhan Vong “Barbarians”.
The Yuuzhan Vong “Barbarians” are rather new to the planet, and they arrived during the Yuuzhan Vong wars as one of the early scouts that crash landed on the planet. They originally tried to contact their fleet, but when that failed they settled down to raiding the populace with their extremely terrifying biotechnology. However, soon they and their technology had died, and over time their culture was diluted to the point that none of them remember where they came from or their culture, they are just raiders that raid settlements with scavenged technology and fear tactics. They burn anything they come across to the ground and steal anything that might be useful. They are the most immediate threat to the Knights, and their raids are near constant in the eastern lands.
The knights have a few core values including Chivalry, Honor, and Patience, these values descend from the values of the Jedi Lord, being extremely corrupted and changed over time to become core values, and while modern jedi would not consider them light side in the slightest, they do claim themselves to be spreading “The Light” against the sith Cultists descendants, who have corrupted the sith values to the point where they are just anarchists hungry for power, and willing to get it in any way possible.
Horses are integral to the culture of Merides, they were imported by the original jedi lord, and have been integral to the culture ever since the collapse as they allowed people to get around without fancy power cells or other complex systems maintenance, and most Knights know how to ride a horse to some extent.
Technology: Technology varies greatly on Merides, with some types of technology being relativly advanced while other areas having an extremely low technological level. It relies very heavily on where you live, how rich you are, and the size of town you live in. Cities are very advanced in relative terms, with some having (dim and unreliable) electrical lighting, while small towns and villages often have only oil lamps or even torches.
Weapons technology is very advanced, with vibro weapons being the most common weapon on the planet, blasters are not used due to reliability issues and an ingrained disdain of ranged firearms. Armor is advanced as well, with the armor able to absorb blaster bolts and even a few hits from a vibro blade, but it is extremely bulky and difficult to use.
There are little to no star ships on the planet, and those that are there are ancient and barely functioning, nobody knows how to fly them so they go unused, and therefore go further into disrepair. Electric lighting is also rare, only being common in the cities, and even then it is extremely unreliable and dim. The lights go out after a certain time for all but the richest people however in order to preserve resources.
There are little to no mechanized, motorized, or hover vehicles on the planet leading to most people using imported endorian horses to travel, and to work their fields. Horses are rather central to the culture as they are some of the only ways of getting around at high speeds without significant technical knowledge of internal combustion engines or repulsor lifts, so the planet relies on horses extensivly.
Communications technology is limited to an electromagnetic telegraph network installed in most major ciites used for mostly diplomatic purposes, though there are ancient communications arrays in a massive state of disrepair scattered throughout the plant, covered in dirt and grass, moss, and other plant life. It would take time to repair but the arrays are powerful enough to reach the greater galaxy.
All other technology is sub par relative to the rest of the galaxy, with all advanced technology having fallen into disrepair and being rendered unusable.
History: Merides was among one of the original human sleeper ship colonies, it took thousands of years for the ship to reach its destination,, the ship's name long forgotten and the ship itself long scrapped for parts. The system is just outside what is normally considered “The Galaxy” but was already primed for life, having a diverse range of wildlife and plant life all around the planet. For a few thousand years the colonists lived in a peaceful agrarian society, undisturbed by the galaxy abroad due to their out of the way location and eventually they devolved technologically to the point where they were hitting each other with steel and iron swords living in even more poverty and starvation than they do today.
After thousands of years of feudalism and starvation, the sith arrived during the New Sith Wars. They had stumbled upon the world with scout probes and reckoned that the world was ripe to invade and take over. They would start by creating cults on the world devoted to the sith, they would destabilize the nations of Merides until any resistance could be easily wiped out. It did not go exactly as planned however, as the Army of Light caught wind of the siths plans and dispatched a jedi lord and a detachment of soldiers to prevent this invasion. While the lord's name was lost to history, he united the planet into the Meridian Empire, bringing with him advanced technology and for a brief 80 years, the world was an advanced world where living conditions were rather high for its location. The sith were slowly killed off over those years, but true victory was cut short by The Shattering.
The Lord built a powerful new reactor in which his lightsaber was a critical component. While the lightsaber was made useless by the reactor, it provided power for the entire continent, but it was extremely complicated. Only the lord knew how to run it, when he died the reactor quickly went critical. Technicians hopelessly tried to stop it, but all was for nought, the reactor blew the continent in three, the ash from its explosion blotted out the sky globally, it snowed ash that winter.
The Lord had dozens of children and bastards, each and every one of them claimed to be his successor, and each gained backers and support from the various lords and ladies of the land each created their own kingdom with the purpose of claiming the throne, but that was thousands of years ago and while the feud is remembered, uniting the planet is the last thing on their minds.
When the reactor blew up the jedi's lightsaber was rumored to have blown into 3 pieces, one landing on each continent. Prophecy states that the one to find all three parts is the chosen one destined to bring the empire back, and the lords have been looking for the pieces for centuries to no avail.
The Gulag Plague had a minimal effect on the planet due to their eternal isolation, however the occasional ship crash did bring an outbreak of it referred to on the planet as “De Ira Dei
”, these outbreaks were highly deadly and dangerous and sometimes destroyed entire kingdoms, however over time much like the rest of the galaxy, immunity was built up.
The Netherworld event had a much more significant impact on the psyche of the people however, people disappeared overnight, people thought it as a godly wrath, brought down upon them by their god of choice, whether that god was The Lord or the Sith, they saw it as a punishment for all they had done wrong, and it caused a wave of moralistic reform across the planet that is just now wearing off as the new generation comes into power.
