OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a temporary unit of Marines for deployment upon The Golden Dragon
  • Role: Boarding Marines, stationed exclusively upon The Golden Dragon
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Links: N/A
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Unit Name: Mercenary Marines
  • Affiliation: Leenic Ellsil
  • Classification: Marines
  • Description: Independent Mercenary unit hired by Leenic Ellsil in order to fully staff his flagship until the Black hand gains enough manpower to do so. Although they hold no distinct loyalty to anyone but their PMC, the soldiers will respect a contract and are extremely unlikely to betray Leenic for an offer of credits.

COMBAT INFORMATION:
  • Unit Size: Medium (65 Soldiers)
  • Unit Availability: Uncommon
  • Unit Experience: Trained
  • Equipment: LE-05 HBR, E-10 Blaster Rifle, Durasteel Armor
  • Combat Function: Standard ship-boarding infantry, each squad consists of 3 riflemen, a grenadier, and a squad automatic weapons carrier.
  • Force Abilities (Force User Units Only): N/A
Strengths:
  • Squad Cohesion: All Mercenary Marines are extremely good at inter-squad communication, allowing them to execute difficult tactics with relative ease compared to other soldiers of similar training levels.
  • Rank and File: Although Leenic does not hire in droves, the soldiers are rather cheap to hire and quite easy to replace, giving Leenic a bit of leeway with casualties sustained during boarding operations
  • Trained: All soldiers in these units are trained to Imperial military standards, meaning that they are all competent enough with a blaster rifle to hit most of their shots.
Weaknesses:
  • Cannon Fodder: Although they are not an easy kill by any means, their relatively generic training and low-tier armor leave them quite vulnerable to enemies that have superior tactical prowess and firepower, meaning that not only must they be deployed in larger groups, but also quite frequently replaced after large operations.
  • CQC Primacy: Although quite efficient in close-quarters combat, these units rarely see combat outside of a ship or fortified building. As such, should they ever be deployed onto a planet, they will have a bit more trouble than the average group of soldiers.
  • Loud: None of these Marines have been trained in stealth techniques, meaning that they will have significant trouble attempting to sneak onto an enemy vessel or station.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
After finishing the construction of his flagship, The Golden Dragon, Leenic realized that he would need readily available soldiers in order to be able to have a proper boarding party prepared in the event of disabling an enemy ship's main guns. So, after a short while of snooping around, Leenic found a PMC that was offering cheap yet good soldiers to just about anyone who was willing to pay the right amount. After securing an indefinite contract with the PMC, Leenic supplied the squads under his command with a heavy blaster rifle of his own design for use in squad support roles and had all of them paint a krayt dragon skull onto their right shoulder pauldron to act as an identifier in the heat of combat.
