Name: Meldarians

Designation: Sentient

Homeworld: Meldara

Language: Galactic Standard, Meldarian

Average height of adults: 6 feet

Skin color: Black

Hair color: Common include white and red

Breathes: Oxygen

Strengths:

While appearing mammal they are in fact amphibious, given that they can breathe under water and breathe through their skin

Two hearts

Telepathic only through touch

Weaknesses:

Vulnerable as humans and most other species

They have a weaker skeletal structure, even the strongest Meldarians

Not enough exposure to ultraviolet light can cause them to die

Distinctions: They have no visible mouths or noses. They receive their nutrients through ultraviolet radiation through their skin which is converted while in their bodies. In fact if they adsorb enough, at least an hours’ worth, they can store it within them and last for about half a day. Since they breathe in through their skin its best they not wear too much clothing to cover their skin. As long as the face is exposed, along with their hands enough of their legs, they can take in what air they need.

Average Lifespan: 100 years

Races: None

Diet: Deathly allergic to sugar. Think extreme lactose intolerance as it can clog the blood vessels of their skin they breathe. While they do need ultraviolet light they are able to use minor radiation as well, which they create through artificial means; i.e. tanning booth-like capsules and large lamps.

Communication: They can speak via their telepathy, but cannot actually read minds without touching someone; such is how they developed learning to speak the Galactic Standard language. When speaking a loud it is in understandable words unless they speak to another of their kind, in which case it is Meldarian. They have developed most common communication forms, advanced radio, television and so on. They have developed holocommunication as well.

Culture:

The Meldarians have a monarchy government but also have a council of higher officials who are all second only to the Emperor or Empress. They are treated like Barons or Dukes, often receiving those types of titles, and control their own providence of the planet. While the robots and droids often served as the main source of labor and military power, any actual soldiers have often been held in higher regard than average citizens for the willingness to give their lives in battle for service to their leader.

Scientists often share almost as high a regard as the barons and dukes for their progressive contribution to advancing technology. As such a universal basic for Meldarian children to learn throughout the first 8 years of teaching is every form of science. It is mainly those that proceed into the technological fields that receive more praise while others are treated the same, a good cause but not one they see advancing further.

The religion of the Meldarians is that they believe their sun is the birthplace of life on their planet; some believing the entire galaxy who’d become smaller branches. Priestesses, or “Sun Seers” as they were called, were the leaders of local churches devoted to this belief with others, either men who’d be called “Light Brother” or women “Light Sisters”, being acolytes. When word of the nova had spread many of the more devoted people of this religion believed that it was a sign that the mother wanted to “take her children back”. As such many had died for wanting to stay on the surface and face the impending doom.

The monarchy of the Meldarians works with the Emperor, acting as the head of all the other leaders, being the one to hear any and all situations or complications or issues to be addresses by the Council. At least once a week the Council would meet in the capital city and discuss the matter, finding any and all possible routes as to what actions they took would lead to. In the end the Emperor would need to issue a vote among the leaders to decide what should be done. Afterwards the Emperor would see the final verdict issued by law. If the Emperor did not follow these laws then he could be vetoed by the Council by lawful order, at which point one of the Council members would be elected. If they were able to hold their position until death then, by right, their next of kin would be allowed to take the position. But, again, that would have to be voted upon by the Council members.

Technology level: Pre-Hyperspace. More advanced in mining, stasis and suspended animation and robotics.

General behavior: The attitude of the Meldarians leader basically defines the general consensus of the people, especially now that they are so few. But generally they are a very peaceful, diplomatic people.

History:
Nearly 50,000 years ago the Meldarians advanced roughly the same rate as human, a little bit faster having not gone through anything like the Dark Ages or Reissuance. During those years each new advancement of science was treated as a great and important moment in the history of the people. Being that they loved technology greatly, as it was an advancement of their providence and culture which they wished to spread, the moments were held in high regard to the point of celebration; of course this was only held for the greater advancements such as the ability of flight, robotics and space travel.

What also developed was the culture and government of these people. During the early years of civilization the Maldarians lived in regions all over the planet, separated by territory. Wars were fought over areas for over 3,000 years. Eventually one region’s forces had managed to spread claim enough territory that they became the new superpower of Maldara. However, being a diplomatic people, this tribe elected a new rule of government for the entire planet. The leader of set people, who was dubbed the first Emperor, agreed to allow the other leaders to keep their lands but to serve under his command. Such was it established and thus has it been ever since. While small rebellions have come up they were greatly unsupported enough to cause a threat.

As they advanced the sun Hulionus was slowly reaching the point of deadly nova which would wipe out everything on the surface. 10,000 years ago the Meldarians developed an underground complex to try and preserve their species, the first of many. They were only able to finish one and were forced to save the 2,000 survivors while the others were wiped out. The last of the Meldarians were kept in stasis while their robotic servants stayed active to preserve them until the planet could be considered habitable again. Eventually they were awakened by the Republic, having stumbled onto them, and welcomed back to the galaxy after being asleep for so many a millennium.

Notable Player-Characters: None yet.

Intent: To create a new species to add to the site and allies for the Republic, and to have the chance to make a new character, and allow for others to make one as well. The species itself will be something of a “fish-out-of-water” creation, in that they will need to get used to how the galaxy has changed from their time.

I’m going to want a lot more information on the history, culture and physical characteristics.

How do they ‘eat’, for instance? What was their family and internal politics like?

Also, not sure what “While mammal they have they amphibious ability of breathing through their skin” How does this work?

Don’t just answer those questions, fatten out your description so that a reader gets an idea about who these people are, how they work and what makes them tick.

@mention me when ready.

Looks good, but I think the method of ‘eating’…doesn’t actually work.

If you want them to have no mouths, your best bet is to have them absorb either ultraviolet energy or other radiation through their skins.
Alternatively you could have them absorb liquids thought their skin, but this would also be a weakness as they’d be susceptible to air or waterborne contaimnants.

You’re doing fine, just got some details to iron out.

@[member="Tamara"] Went with the ultaviolet idea since it makes more sence. They worship the sun because it gave them good and also it's ironic since it's what ruined the planet lol.

OK good! We're almost there.

Last things we need to sort out;
- Is their telepathy in understandable words, in images, or in their own language?
- Expand the weakness to include the fact that they need ultraviolet light, and if they don't get it, they suffer like humans would without water. Also could mention artificial means by which they can 'feed' themselves.
- If they breathe through their skin, does that mean wearing tight clothes can suffocate them? How much skin needs to be free?

@[member="Tamara"] done and done. :) Though it's werid because sometimes the spell checker works in my posts and sometimes it doesn't. So I'm never too sure half the time.
