  • Tempered Barrel: The barrel of the Liberator has been etched with runes through the art of Mandalorian Tempering, allowing the weapon to enter an empowered state when the wielder thumps their fist against its side. Once activated, the runes flare with a fiery glow and the weapon’s next discharge becomes a short-range wave of Destruction. At its broadest point, the discharge spans roughly 3 meters in width and 3 meters in height before dissipating at roughly 12 meters. This blast completely drains the power cell, requiring an immediate reload after use.
    .
  • Resonance (Set Bonus): When the Liberator is wielded alongside at least two other weapons from the Sole Ruler line, its barrel grants a passive enhancement to its standard blaster fire. Bolts fired in this state gain a modest tracking quality against targets designated through a beskar'gam HUD, improving accuracy in coordinated engagements without turning the weapon into a fully self-guiding platform.

  • Tempered Might: The Liberator's greatest distinction lies in its tempered barrel and its Resonance effect, both of which elevate it beyond an ordinary blaster carbine. On its own, the weapon can unleash a devastating short-range wave of Destruction at the cost of its entire power cell, and when used alongside other members of the Sole Ruler line, it grants its standard bolts modest tracking capability against HUD-designated targets.
    .
  • Close Quarters Combat: As a light burst-fire blaster carbine, the Liberator excels in fast-moving close-to-medium range engagements where mobility, responsiveness, and control matter most. Its compact frame makes it easy to maneuver in confined environments, while the beskar blades mounted at the front give the weapon dangerous utility in brutal melee exchanges when the distance collapses entirely.

  • Suppression Vulnerability: The Liberator’s tempered functions depend on an active connection to Force-derived craftsmanship, making them vulnerable in environments that suppress or neutralize such energies. Force neutral zones, such as ysalamiri bubbles, and Force dampening materials or fields, such as those created by voidstone, can render the tempered barrel inert and prevent both its destructive discharge and resonance enhancement from functioning as intended.
    .
  • Carbine Limitations: The Liberator inherits the natural shortcomings of the carbine class, trading reach and sustained ranged dominance for handling and aggression. It is less effective than a full-length rifle in extended engagements across open ground, and its strongest features are best realized only when the wielder can force the fight into close-to-mid range engagements.

The MDL-3 Liberator Burst Carbine is a commemorative weapon of House Verd, Inc., forged as part of the Sole Ruler line and awarded to participants of the Verd'goten held by the Mandalorian Empire in 904 ABY. Its name honors Mia Monroe, Mand'alor the Liberator, the third Mand'alor to bear the mantle after the Four Hundred Year Darkness had ravaged the galaxy and left Mandalorian identity scattered across its aftermath. In both form and function, the Liberator was conceived as more than a mere prize. It was designed as a tribute, a battlefield keepsake, and a living remembrance of the woman whose legacy helped reclaim a path forward. To bear it is to carry an echo of her career in hand, and to feel, however briefly, what it means to walk a few footsteps in her boots.

In its standard configuration, the Liberator is a light blaster carbine built for close to medium range engagements, firing a controlled three round burst with the responsiveness and maneuverability expected of a weapon meant for aggressive fighting. Its compact profile allows it to perform well in tight interiors, boarding actions, and shifting urban combat, while the beskar core and forward blade assembly give it a degree of resilience and lethality uncommon for weapons in its class. Those blades are not decorative. They turn the Liberator into a vicious close quarters instrument when distance collapses and the fight becomes personal. Its defining quality, however, lies in its tempered barrel. Through Mandalorian Tempering, the runes etched along the weapon can be awakened by a strike of the wielder’s fist, causing them to flare to life and priming the next shot into a short range wave of Destruction. Alongside this, the Resonance effect allows the Liberator to modestly track HUD designated targets when wielded in concert with other Sole Ruler weapons, rewarding disciplined coordination and shared purpose.

That power comes with meaningful constraints. The tempered discharge, while devastating, is short ranged and burns through the weapon’s power cell completely in a single use, forcing an immediate reload at the worst possible moment if used carelessly. The Liberator also inherits the natural tradeoffs of the carbine platform, excelling in compressed battle spaces but yielding reach and ranged dominance to longer service rifles in open terrain. Its Resonance effect is conditional rather than constant, requiring coordination with other Sole Ruler line weapons to realize its full value. Most importantly, its tempered functions are vulnerable to environments or materials that suppress the Force. Within ysalamiri generated neutral zones, voidstone dampening fields, or similar phenomena, the mystical elements of the weapon can be rendered inert, reducing the Liberator to its conventional firing profile and stripping away the very features that make it extraordinary.

Even with those limitations, the Liberator succeeds because it understands exactly what it is meant to be. It is not a universal answer to every battlefield problem, nor was it ever intended to be. It is a weapon of memory, aggression, and purpose, crafted to honor a Mand'alor whose name still carries force in Mandalorian history. In the hands of a worthy bearer, the Liberator does more than fire bolts or unleash destruction. It tells a story. It reminds those who carry it that liberation was not an idea handed down in comfort, but something won through resolve, sacrifice, and violence applied with conviction. In that sense, the Liberator is a fitting tribute, because like the woman it honors, it is at its best when the moment demands courage at close range.
