Strengths:
Superior Defense - The Scythe-class utilize the Delphus 4 shield system giving it a quad layer of overlapping shield generators and multiple defensive weapons systems to both defend itself and other escorting vessels.
Hard Hitting Forward Armament - The Scythe-class loads out ninety percent of its offensive armament to the forward firing arc.
Weaknesses:
Limited Broadside - The Scythe-class like its predecessors has most of its armament deducted to the forward arc of fire.
Poor Maneuvering - The Scythe-class is designed as a stand off and defense vessel and maintains a forward arc on its target and has limited maneuvering thrust systems to make up for other more design useful systems.
Description:
The Scythe-class cruiser is a modernized highly developed variant of the centuries old MC120 cruisers. Developed of the previous variant the new variant is a bit larger to accommodate the added defensive weapons systems added from the previous variant. while not largely superior to the previous variant the new Scythe has added systems and armor making it hardier in battle.
The core of the vessels design is its defensive power and hardiness. The class has quad redundancy systems, advanced layered shielding, ablative armor and an advanced hull and frame which make the vessel very difficult to engage and knock out of battle. These defensive systems work in concert with the various defensive weapon systems loaded out on the vessel. Heavy defensive batteries can engage smaller capital vessels and attack craft with equal ease while smaller laser defense batteries aid with point defense and close in interception of attack craft and projectile weapons. finally the defensive capabilities are increased by the advanced multi-warhead defensive systems which can aid in point defense long range defense, interception and electronic warfare defense.
An advanced suite of sensors and targeting systems aid the vessel in battle. Laser communications and targeting help the Scythe keep fighting in heavy electronic warfare situations. Multi frequencies light emitting lidar arrays help the Scythe target enemy vessels at long ranges with precise solution computing.
Offensively the Scythe is a very specialized platform. The majority of its offensive weapons are placed to fire in the forward arch of the vessel. This design principle goes back to the original MC120 and is very effecting in assault, bombardment, stand off and defensive actions. The main weapon system of the Scythe is its array of plasma torpedo launchers placed on the prow center line section. these energy projectiles can deliver a massive amount of power almost instantaneously to a target. Large batteries with four long range turbolasers and two long range ion cannons each line the port and starboard frame of the large prow structure. smaller turbolaser batteries line the vessels dorsal and ventral hull giving the vessel limited broadside weapon fire arcs. Three large warhead launchers are equipped on each port and starboard midships hull. these launchers can fire very large payload and special warhead equipped torpedoes.
