SPECIAL FEATURES
- Absorbs 99.995% of a decent portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, from microwaves up through infrared to human-visible light and the ultraviolet range.
- Superb protection against microwaves, infrared detection/'heat vision', visual-spectrum radiation, and ultraviolet.
- Decent stealth material in the right context.
- Modest lightsaber resistance.
- Non-toxic.
- High strength-to-weight ratio.
- Minimal dark side presence for an alchemical substance (e.g. a Jedi Master could sense it with physical contact).
- A region of absolute blackness isn't always the stealthiest thing around.
- Can cause interference with personal comlinks.
- Weak against higher-frequency radiation (e.g. X-rays and gamma rays). Would offer only limited protection against a solar flare, multi-spectral emitter, or multispectral radcannon, for example.
- Prone to melting if too much energy is applied.
- Can crack if subjected to Force Light.
Mavrilon started as part of an alchemical experiment for pure research purposes - an attempt to quantify the limits of the Force-based phosphorescence of Mimbanite thaissen crystals. When it became clear that the tool might be more interesting and promising than the project, some of the Aksifas alchemists broke from the research team and pivoted to focus on improving their somewhat accidental creation.
Mavrilon is a light, flexible, relatively strong metal that happens to be astoundingly matte black. It drinks most forms of radiation like a thirsty bantha busting through a cantina wall. Mavrilon has potential applications in stealth systems, radiation protection, sensor technology, diagnostic imaging, physics research, jewellery and accessories, ritual functions, sensory deprivation chambers, and cosmetics. While it's not remotely the equal of beskar or phrik, its modest lightsaber resistance makes it an interesting ornamental choice for decorating armor and weapons.
