  • Name: Mato Kejak
    Species: Rattataki
    Age: 47
    Gender: Male
    Height: 6'3"
    Weight: 203 lbs
    Homeworld: Rattatak
    Faction: N/A
    Rank: Jedi Master

Born a slave on Rattatak, destined to die in the gladiatorial combat pits for the entertainment of those who lorded over him and his famifly, Mato's early life was one that held very bleak prospects for the possibility of his ever achieving what could be considered a full and fulfilling experience. Across his body he still bears some scars from this time of his early life, when he was first being trained for fighting, though the skills gained so early on coupled with a stronger drive to survive than most beings ever need to develop have served him quite well. Luckily, around the time of his ninth birthday, he was discovered by a Kel Dor man named Feegan who was on the planet. While most assumed Feegan was merely another warrior come to test himself, owing to his armour and blade, there were some on the planet—mainly, those that Feegan himself had come to remove—who knew him for what he truly was: A Jedi, though one of a different tradition than the mainstream orders.

Perhaps it was fate, the Will of the Force, or whatever else you wish to call it, but one of the warlords that Feegan had come to deal with was the one who ultimately owned Mato himself; shortly after dealing with that one, and before another could rise in their place and lay claim to their former holdings, Feegan came and rescued Mato, having sensed the Force within the boy. Thus it was that Mato was raised into a tradition of Jedi separate from the mainstream, considered too radical and warlike to be accepted into the wider orders; however, due to the great devotion to the Light side and emphasis on service to the galaxy that these specific Jedi had, they were still often welcome to come and aid their more mainstream brethren when battles arose between them and their adversaries. So it was that, despite having been lifted out of Rattatak’s gladiatorial pits, Mato was thrown, time and time again, into countless wars across scores of star systems, though for once he had something to actually fight for.

In time, he was raised to the rank of Knight, setting out separate from his master, and training some apprentices of his own; once his master died, and he inherited the holocron of Jocho Netomo, he set his sights on a different goal: While he is still heavily focused on trying to redeem those of his tradition in the eyes of the wider Jedi within the galaxy, he also seeks to find and reunite the scattered, rival groups within this tradition, to better serve the Light Side—and if the other Jedi will not accept them, then all of them together will have no choice but to build their own order to save the galaxy.

  • Tall, thickly muscled, and covered in scars from dozens of battles, Mato Kejak possesses the archetypal body of a warrior; completed by the hairless physique, ashen-pale skin, and pale yellow eyes, he is almost exactly the stereotype of a Rattataki warrior seen in numerous holodramas throughout the galaxy; however, being a very ascetic warrior-monk type of Jedi, he is not adorned in the tattoos or jewelry that are common to other Rattataki, instead leaving himself bare of such ornamentation. Of prominent note are the large pair of scars across his face, earned in combat against a Sith Lord who had managed to knock away the mask of his armour. While he could have easily had them healed without such prominent scarring, he chose to allow them to heal naturally, a constant reminder of the foolishness that had caused him to nearly lose his life, challenging somebody who held much greater skill than he did at the time; indeed, it was only the Sith’s own foolishness that prevented Mato from dying as well, as the cuts were delivered in an attempt to taunt and fluster Mato, rather than outright attempts to kill, while Mato was attempting to ensure the Sith’s demise alongside himself.

On the battlefield, however, Mato’s species is unrecognizable, beyond clearly being near-human—or, at least, humanoid. Clad head-to-toe in body armour, with a mask and helmet design that is designed to focus on intimidating his opponents, the only hint as to his species is the space immediately surrounding his eyes. Needless to say, there have been few to see him from such an angle and survive to tell the tale.

  • In battle, Mato Kejak is a force to behold; a master of multiple martial arts, as well as of the sword forms of Shii Cho and Soresu, he has been known just as much for his ability to cut through swathes of enemy combatants as he has been to hold a single position against near-insurmountable odds, buying others time to escape or reposition themselves to continue the battle from a more advantageous position. This extends to his skill with the Force; while he is adept with the basics of telekinesis and similar powers, he rarely uses them, instead relying on abilities that increase his senses or physical capabilities, and can aid his allies as well—or, as he considers it, his focus in the Force is on allowing the Force to make him its tool, rather than the other way around.

Out of battle, he is intelligent, well versed in Jedi philosophy, especially that of his splinter sect; however, other than basic piloting ability and computer skills, his ability to interact with technology that isn’t weaponry is nigh-nonexistent. He is a man who lives for battle, to go forth and serve the citizens of the galaxy and the Force; all else is outside of his purview.
