Master Nomination - Cerita Sarova

Thread list is here. I'm voting yes.

EDIT: Since questions have been raised, a couple of points. I wasn't aware Cerita's GA participation had been so slim. That said, I spent a while digging through private threads and emerged comfortable with nominating her for Master.

I'm a bit confused and I talked to the writer of cerita about this, but the character hasn't really done much in GA yet.

I've discussed it with her and she did a personal / contract in belsavis. A donation in the corporation thread. And one post in another dominion.

Honestly, I'd feel more comfortable if she participated in the Ga faction some more. Became more involved. The bulk of her threads are all private, which is great-- but that doesn't tell the faction much about the character.

I want to thank [member="Mara D'Lessio Merrill"], [member="Julius Sedaire"] for the vote of confidence and like I told [member="Kaileann Vera"]'s writer in private, I won't hold it against anyone if they aren't comfortable to vote because they haven't seen my character around much.

So if you know her and what she's about, vote if you like, if you don't? No pressure to vote at all and all's good.

I really like the work that the writer has done with this character, so it would be a definite yes from me.

However, I don't quite feel like he has done a lot for the faction. When I think of a Master, I think of a person who really works for their faction, participates in threads and starts new ones. I haven't seen a lot of that in this case, so I don't think this is the right faction for the nomination.

What threads do you feel highlight the development of your character the most?

I've gone through the private threads and a couple of others. In some of the more interesting ones the character got swapped out for Jared Ovmar part way through. A lot of the more recent ones seem like pretty dry development threads and I struggle to get a sense of how the character is progressing.

This is likely unfair, because no one here is that familiar with Cerita. It seems as if there was a big gap in your working with the char and recently there have been a lot of quick fire dev threads.

A quick look at the quantity of posts by cerita in the first set of threads I scans comes out as follows:

5 threads 1 post only
2 threads 2-5 posts
20 threads 6-10 posts
1 thread 11-20 posts
4 >20 posts

This is why I ask for some good examples because it's hard for me to get a feel for the character when so many threads have quite low posts and feel like quite mandrolic dev for submissions.

Nah, that's not unfair at all. I welcome any and all questions, if that helps you come to a decision, but again- I am not gonna hold it against people who vote no or would rather just make a pass on it.

Anyway, as for your question.

I personally really like this one.

Cerita is interesting to me, because I have been trying to explore how a person develops in pretty extreme situations. She is a clone from a notoriously hated Sith Lord and has to cope with that, while at the same time being trained from the beginning by pretty notorious Sith Lords / Alchemists in their own right. So there is this struggle between a socially awkward individual who has no real idea how to approach people, her more paranoid, clinical and scientific perspective on her life and morality that isn't completely broken, but still more twisted than normal people have.

So in Mighty you have her try to be this secretive agent with her own agenda, but at the same time her lack of social experience is just freaking out her partner. Which she vaguely realizes, but has no idea how to properly approach to fix it just yet.

This and that one, are probably the ones you are talking about specifically. But yeah, Ovmar was a pretty important person who introduced Ceri to her last Master, which is why he was featured heavily at one point.

Does that help in any way?

Edit: Also, you are right about the gap, though. I retired her for a while and started writing her again a while ago, when my interest picked up for her.

I'm going to vote no at the moment. I'd like to see a good bit more story based character development in stories over the next couple of months and see the character get out and about a bit more before Master.

It's definitely getting there since you picked her back up though.

Though I'm aware that I'm not in the best place to talk about this (bit of the old adage 'pot calling the kettle black'), I'm not entirely sure of the relevance as to the nominee's faction participation. Being a Master is not something that is faction-specific. You don't go from being a Jedi Master to a Jedi Padawan cause you jumped from one faction to another. By the site's own rules, even, you can be Mastered outside of a faction.

It's never sat well with me, this idea that someone has to be intrinsically-tied to a faction and be constantly on the front-lines of activity in order to be considered right for Master, especially this idea of "working for a faction". While it might not be the belief of some folks, I'm one who takes great care in the words I use and to be these descriptions seem to indicate a belief that Masterhood is a reward for doing work.

The question to be considered is not "Has X done enough for our faction to promote him?", but "Has X shown enough activity and character growth to warrant the title of Master?"

That all being said... Insofar as the site rules are concerned, with me being a member of the faction, I would vote no if only by a slim margin. However, as I'm still not fully active and returned, I'm not actually placing a vote. I simply felt a need to voice the above. The character has activity, of that there is little question to me. However, I do not believe that the measure of development is quite there to merit the title of Master.

Yes. But that is why the option to simply go direct to Rpj vote for any padawan or knight is there if they don't have ties to a faction.

If cerita believes herself to be ready, all she has to do is simply pm an RPJ and it will be reviewed by them. One doesnt need a peer review and concensus for that and can skip an entire step.

Getting a master doesn't require a faction: but at least in the GA, i know at the very least I want to see the character be an active part of the faction. Be it in the past or present, it is a point of reference.
