The Jedi Order is all Hwo has ever known. His earliest memories are from the Temple Theed, the place he calls home. As a young teen, he was sent to Coruscant to train under the Masters of the larger Jedi Council. He excelled there, soaking up the wisdom offered by his new teachers. While interested in Jedi lore and history, he quickly found himself proficient in telekinesis. Swordplay was quite different. Far from a natural, he spent significant time and energy working to develop his skills in lightsaber combat. He focused heavily on Form III, believing that learning an adequate defense would be his safest path forward.
The Jedi Master Ice Fox selected Hwo as his Padawan. While Fox had fully proven himself to the Jedi Council, his journey there was a bit unique. He had been a Sith Lord in the powerful Sith Empire. His redemption arc led to a focus on the true path of the Jedi, beholden to the Force rather than the Republic. His ideals wore off on Hwo, teaching him to be an independent thinker that could question the Order when its agenda aligned more with the governing officials than the Light. His legendary skills with a lightsaber also transferred, as he trained Hwo extensively in the use of Form V.
Hwo was Knighted on Naboo after passing the Trials. He taught lessons to new Jedi on telekinesis and lightsaber combat over the years, and he often led physical training sessions involving trail runs in the forests outside of Theed. He trained multiple Padawans to Knighthood. Hwo also fought in many battles for the Order, which seemed in constant conflict with dangerous Sith factions and darkside cults. He defended the Temple Theed from numerous Sith attacks with legendary Jedi like
Katarine Ryiah
and battled alongside Masters such as
Mak Manto
in an ill-fated war against growing Dathomiri threats. It was not lost on him that during this time, Master Fox seemed to have vanished without a trace.
On a Jedi Strike Force mission to shut down a slave operation, Hwo and his team found themselves trapped in a factory by Darth Bathory and his Sith acolytes. To his surprise, Master Fox was separately investigating the same operation and learned of their capture. In a brilliant act of self sacrifice, Fox held off the dark lords to permit the others time to escape. The factory exploded with the Jedi Master still inside. This weighed heavily on Hwo, and it took him years to overcome his inability to save his friend and mentor.
Through dedication and perseverance, Hwo earned the rank of Master by age 25. He took on a new Padawan, the unusual Wistie Eisha. Together they stopped an Imperial invasion by smuggling themselves aboard an ISB ship and capturing the officers. At his recommendation, Eisha was Knighted after this successful mission.
But he began to butt heads more and more with the Council, sharing the same concerns as his deceased Master that they were being too influenced by corrupt government and politicians. Hwo often found himself volunteering for missions that took him away from their jurisdiction. Although well liked, he became known more as a Ranger rather than a steady presence in the Order. Still, he never strayed from the Light, and he continues today to follow the Path of the Jedi.
