OVERVIEW
Masao Genji is meek, guarded, and quietly lethal.
He does not carry danger with swagger or theatrical menace. Violence exists much closer to instinct: something learned, conditioned, and made terribly ordinary through survival. He tends toward restraint rather than confrontation, watching quietly and keeping much of himself protected behind a subdued exterior.
That softness should not be confused with helplessness.
When violence becomes necessary, Masao is capable of acting with unnerving economy. There is little ceremony to it. No need for threats, anger, or bravado. He observes, chooses, and acts.
Much of Masao's story exists in the distance between the person he might naturally have become and the survivor he was taught to be.
Trust does not come easily.
Affection can be confusing.
Safety is something learned rather than assumed.
Personality
Masao is naturally quiet and comparatively meek, particularly beside louder or more forceful personalities. He listens more readily than he speaks and tends to retreat inward when uncertain.
He is guarded almost by reflex.
Attention can feel dangerous. Vulnerability can feel worse.
His subdued temperament nevertheless hides an extremely capable survivor. Masao has learned to function beneath pressure, tolerate discomfort, and respond to danger without the emotional spectacle many others associate with violence.
Beneath all of this remains a gentler person still learning that survival and living are not necessarily the same thing.
APPEARANCE
Masao possesses an unusually delicate appearance. Pale skin, white hair, and striking red eyes give him a distinctive presence even when he is attempting to remain unnoticed.
His build is petite and compact, standing only around five-foot-four, with a narrow waist, flat chest, and fuller thighs relative to the rest of his slight frame.
His usual clothing favors fitted martial garments and freedom of movement over armor. Black fabrics, a sleeveless qipao-style upper garment, fitted shorts, opaque thigh-high stockings, long black gloves, and simple martial shoes form the basis of his current visual design.
His white hair falls roughly to the middle or lower portion of his back rather than extending dramatically beyond it.

Backstory
Much of Masao Genji's earlier history remains quiet.
What is unmistakable is the person that history produced.
Masao survived circumstances that taught him to become small when attention was dangerous, watchful when uncertainty entered a room, and lethally efficient when violence became unavoidable.
Whatever softness remained in him survived beside those lessons rather than because of them.
Eventually Masao came beneath the instruction of Zetsumie Aku.
Zetsumie's methods were severe.
He taught through pressure, repetition, discomfort, and merciless correction. Masao nevertheless remained, looking toward his master for wisdom and courage even while enduring the weight of that instruction.
That endurance gradually forged something neither man seems especially equipped to name comfortably.
Master and apprentice became teacher and student.
Teacher and student became keeper and ward.
Somewhere along the way, Zetsumie became perilously close to a father, and Masao something perilously close to a son.
Masao continues forward carrying both what was done to him and what has since been taught to him, trying to determine where conditioning ends and choice finally begins.

Masao's apprenticeship beneath Zetsumie is as much a story of identity as martial instruction.
Zetsumie trains hard enough to expose weakness rather than hide it. Masao, in turn, looks toward him for wisdom and courage despite knowing precisely how unforgiving those lessons can become.
The bond has grown beyond simple instruction.
Zetsumie regards Masao as something very near a son, though neither man's relationship with affection makes that particularly easy to express.
