    SHATTERED

Marek was raised a noble on the outer rim world of Serenno; the eldest of two children born to House Silvanus, one of many noble houses known for defending the world from both invaders & conquerors for millenia. Born to a Miralukan mother and a Serennan father, Marek’s life was far from typical - even for someone of his station. Ever since he could remember, he had always held a keen ‘sixth sense’, which manifested itself in a heightened acumen for learning about history, the sciences, and generally for keeping himself out of trouble (as he always seemed to attract the ire of his peers). His father wasn’t really a consistent fixture in his life due to a combination of duties expected of a sitting member of the Planetary Council, as well as the simple fact that he was generally a very taciturn man. The few instances that Marek recalled having with his father were usually very concise affairs, wherein Marek was meant to learn ‘what it meant to be a lord’ whenever his time came. He was found relatively late in life by the Jedi despite having clear indications of a strong connection with the force. The reason for this was his father’s consistent and active refusal of their many overtures from infancy on, insisting that his son was destined to inherit his title. This all would change upon his tenth year of life.

Despite standing as a neutral world for many years, the world would draw the attention of the ever-powerful Sith Empire near the height of the Great Galactic War. Although the planet was exceedingly powerful despite its supposed isolation, the planet would fall quietly - without shots being fired or bombs being dropped. Marek was too young to fully understand the circumstances of that period, or even why his mother secretly spirited him away in the middle of the night. He would learn years later that his father was involved with a coup, along with other nobles who sat upon the council. Once seizing power, they would hand the world over to Imperial Control. His mother, a Miralukan named Y’shira who had a strong connection to the force herself (despite not being formally trained in its use for similar reasons to Marek’s delay in being trained), could sense great danger ahead for both her son and herself if they remained upon the world after the Sith fully seized control. He remembered resisting at first, asking where his sister Asha was, but eventually being quickly spirited away by his mother and her loyal household retainers as they boarded a shuttle in the middle of the night. He can still, to this day, remember looking out at his sister, who hid in the shrubbery as if this was a game. That would be the last time he would see his sister, and even to this day he asks himself why he didn’t stay there to help her, or why he didn’t stop the ship as it was lifting off to get her into the transport. While he is frequently hard on himself over this perceived indiscretion; in truth, his life had changed so completely that he couldn’t fathom what lay next.

    SANCTUARY

Eventually, Marek and his mother’s small entourage would arrive on the world of Commenor, the home of the Silver Jedi Concord. He didn’t really have a thought as to why they came here - he knew it was a beautiful world, and he had always heard cool things about the Jedi and who they were (despite his father rejecting them numerous times, unknown to him). With his keen interest in the Jedi (what boy wouldn’t be interested in an order of warriors with flashing swords), he was beyond enamored with the attention he received from them in return. He was quickly taken in by the Jedi to undergo training within the temple, his mother establishing an estate nearby which gave him the impression of little change in his life. Due to his innate gifts, in part derived from his Miralukan blood, Marek soon excelled in his studies at the temple - so much so that he became a promising pupil in the eyes of many masters. As he came of age, he became the apprentice to Master Serak-Tal, a Cerean Jedi Master of some renown; known for his rather puritanical views of the force, similar to the views adopted by the ancient Jedi Order of the ‘Clone Wars’ period.

Early on in their master-apprentice relationship, Marek made strong progress. Serak was also a student of history, primarily the history of the Jedi Order as a whole, as well as force sensitive species of antiquity, such as the Zeffo & Rakata. For the following decade, the pair spent countless hours searching ancient ruins for relics of said bygone civilizations in the hopes of finding insightful remnants to form and provide greater context of the force as it stands today. Their relationship would begin to change shortly after Marek rose to the status of a Jedi Knight. His mother, who had remained on Commenor for a large chunk of his life, had over the preceding years of his Knighthood expanded into estates on half a dozen other worlds. While he was preoccupied with providing aid to refugees fleeing some of the fringe worlds of the unknown regions who fled in the wake of the Bryn’adul incursion, she disappeared under mysterious circumstances. When Marek became aware of it, he petitioned the council to allow him to search for his mother, and to determine if she was still alive. Despite his former master’s rather vocal misgivings over his involvement, the council allowed it under the condition Serak joined him.

For some reason, during the majority of the mission to find his mother, his former master set about rebuking him at what he perceived to be ‘every turn’, insisting that he was allowing his emotions to cloud his judgement, or claiming that he was too emotionally invested in the situation and he was being too reckless. Marek himself could not attest to any actual evidence of recklessness or overt emotional investment, as he was focused on finding his mother regardless of what his master thought. Resentment began to grow in his heart, for he knew that other masters did not fault their padawans for emotional connections to their families or love interests - why should he be any different? This resentment would soon rise to a near-boiling point when they finally discovered what had happened to his mother.

    REQUIEM

Master & former apprentice eventually tracked Marek’s mother Y’shira to the edge of Concord controlled space, to the world of Taris - a world which at one point was a massive city-scape, only to be brought low by the ancient sith Lord Malak. In the millenia since that event, the world had been rebuilt several times over into a smaller version of its past self; a planet with multiple vast cities and shantytowns dotting the landscape, intermingled with stretches of swamps and wasteland. It was there, where he found his mother being sold in an illegal slave trade housed within the underbelly of Tarisian society. Teetering on the edge of losing himself within the force, his master yet again would chide his former pupil, entreating him to push aside his emotion prior to attempting to save his mother. Marek would take his master’s advice, but in doing so, they would be too late in saving her; arriving at the ‘marketplace’ she was held at literally a day too late, with her owner leaving the planet that same day and heading into Imperial controlled space.

It took every ounce of self restraint for Marek not to chase after his mother, heedless of the ramifications of doing so. It took even more such restraint to not lash out at his former master for doggedly preaching ‘patience’ and the avoidance of ‘personal attachment’. A wedge would grow between himself and his former master, with Marek choosing to isolate himself by delving even deeper in his studies of ancient ruins and civilizations, while also trying to find some trace of where his mother was. He never has fully forgiven himself for failing to rescue her on Taris, nor for abandoning his sister all those years ago back on Serenno. While he is very adept at containing his feelings behind a mask of impassiveness, or even a jovial smile - his wounds indeed run deep...

As described earlier, Marek is half human, half miralukan. He has retained the full use of his eyes, which bear a seemingly impossible shade of pale blue that seem to be able to pierce into ones’ soul. His facial features are sharp and angular in nature, and his hair is a deep black. Given his life as a Jedi, he has a very fit and athletic build, but not as bulky or imposing as others. Overall, he carries himself as a gentleman, and on the surface appears to be a man of few words.

  • STRENGTHS i & i WEAKNESSES

    ea226d497ab2b23bc384716a8e680443.jpg
+Scholar - Marek has dedicated his life to the pursuit of knowledge, and is therefore a very knowledgeable scholar when it comes to ancient and force sensitive civilizations.
+Duelist - Due to his Serennan heritage, and his studies of ancient texts and manuscripts of the Jedi, Marek has taken an interest in the more elegant forms of saber combat, preferring the use of Makashi & Shien. Over the past few years, he has also been dabbling in the use of Juyo/Vaapad, without his former master’s knowledge.
+Attractive - While he was a bit of a ‘late bloomer’ given his master’s puritanical interpretations of the Jedi way, Marek has in later years come to appreciate the effect he tends to have on women, which is somewhat fueled by a slight disbelief and humility that he is at all attractive to the opposite sex.
+One with the Force - Given his heritage as part Miralukan, his connection with the force is a cut above your average Jedi.

-Guilt - Marek carries a large amount of guilt over his self-described failings in saving his family from their respective fates.
-Emotional - It is the Jedi way to guard & train one’s emotions for the common good of all. Given his history, Marek struggles with his emotions; particularly, feelings of rage and regret.

    • Marek’s strength in the force is above average for a Jedi Knight, bordering that of a Jedi Master. Specifically, he is very strong in utilizing telekinesis, creating barriers, enhancing his reflexes, and in sensing the presences of others over greater distances. He also has the ability of being able to see things ‘through’ the force, as Miralukan can, just not quite as powerfully or vividly.
    • Marek is a very skilled duelist, all but mastering the Makashi & Shien lightsaber forms, strong in the use of Shi-Cho, and becoming very skilled with Juyo
    • Given his interest in ancient civilizations, Marek contains a rare knowledge in ancient languages and customs.
    • Due to his tendency to isolate himself on distant worlds, Marek is accustomed to living off of the land and taking care of himself.
    • Marek is an adequate pilot.
