Description: Mara Merrill's speeder is a modified Vornskr armored personnel carrier. In most respects, the vehicle is stock. Mara upgraded the engines fractionally, threw in a Lightbringer for short-range artifact detection, bolted on a small tractor beam, and added a series of Cerean Kasha stones throughout, especially in the turret controls and piloting dashboard. Though Mara is wary of using the stones as a crutch, they help clear away distractions and bolster focus. She used the speeder project as an exercise in familiarization with Kasha stone crafting; she made all of them personally. The new gear comes at a cost: the speeder trades its powerful dual caseless slugthrower/particle beam turret for a generic, retractable, ventral autoblaster. This modification also removed the possibility of modular turret mounts.
She generally uses the vehicle for artifact retrieval and personnel evacuation missions, and often carries it in the Bullet Time's small bay in lieu of its single starfighter.
Sloped plating diverts impacts and explosions from front, rear, and sides, and spread standard laser or ion strikes across a larger surface area. A v-hull does the same for mines or IEDs. A rubbery plast coating prevents spalling (the detachment of parts of the hull as shrapnel due to powerful external impacts). The vehicle has two main hatches, two gunports on each side, and one rear gunport. To deter the kind of melee combatant that is capable of jumping onto the roof of a fast-moving vehicle, the roof can be electrified. A deflector shield, rounded but relatively closely fitted to the hull, is good only for short-term solutions: It is manually activated as a pulse, to repel an incoming and foreseen strike or to cut the ankles out from anyone standing on the roof. Sustained, rather than pulsed, operation will burn out the shield generator within a handful of serious impacts. With a cooldown of five seconds between one-second shield pulses, however, the generator can last indefinitely, barring damage. All of this gear is stock.
