HIGHLANDS, KALEVALA

One people.

Decades ago, when the weakness of Mand'alor the Infernal led to the devastation of the homeworld, retreat ensured survival. Countless clans abandoned their ancestral seats, choosing the uncertainty of the stars over the certainty of death at the hands of the Sith. For fifty long years, these families laid down new roots, found stability anew, and rebuilt their shattered reality. It was no surprise that, fifty years later, the rise of the Mandalorian Empire did not see every clan return to Mandalore. Why?

Some had lost faith in the mantle of Mand'alor. Understandable.

Others chose to rely on the strength of their Clan versus the strength of a nation. Understandable.

Whatever the reasons, it became Mand'alor the Iron's cause to seek understanding. He never demanded that every Mandalorian kneel before his throne. He never demanded blind obedience or subservience from his people. Rather, he opened the door. He made it apparent that they could return to Mandalore at any time; whether to stay, or simply to tarry for a moment. He abolished the stigma of the word dar'manda, promising to never brand those who chose independence as enemies of Mandalore. All of this led to a rare invitation by a particular Clan.

They had quietly resided within the ancestral heartland of Mandalore. They watched, listened, and waited before extending an olive branch to the iron monarch. For his part, Aether did not make them wait. His personal Kom'rk-type Fighter/Transport descended from the heavens and settled down in a clearing among numerous trees. This day, he did not bring a monumental escort, but rather a handful of Supercommandos. The gilded warriors were the first to disembark, taking up their place around the vessel whilst Aether strode forth to meet with the Clan.

What would become of this conversation, he did not yet know.

But as always, his hope...his goal...his dream remained Mandalorian Unity.

There came a time when the pride of the Clan was no longer reason enough to ignore the calling of Home. Especially when that clan was in shambles to begin with, and more bodies had already left to go their own way than remained anymore. Not that Taryn could blame them, not any one of them. This clan, this family had lost it's fight a long time ago, and while for the longest time Taryn remained the one, true body that was loyal to a fault, she could stand by and deteriorate no more. While she had no meant to speak for the entire group, she did extend a hand of peace, or truce at the very least.
She was tired of maintaining the dignity of her family alone, and would do so no longer.
When the coms had indicated that a ship was arriving, Taryn had gathered no gear to go out and meet their guest - her guest. She had no desire to be seen as a threat, though honestly she hardly needed her weapons to be as such. Still, she crossed the distance between the main hub of their compound to where this Mand'alor was exiting his vessel. While she did not attempt to overstep boundaries, not wanting to fluff up the guards, Tar did salute. A quick gesture, and one she did not wait to be released from.
"I wasn't sure that you would honestly show." She spoke truthfully, having wondered if she alone was worth the time a journey here would take. Overly long distance or not, it was the fact that she alone had extended a hand. "Welcome to what's left of Clan ragtag." It was clearly some inside joke as far as the name went, though Taryn didn't look so amused by it's meaning anymore. The Numecks had more or less abandoned the cause, and other only other member trying to maintain their dignity was traveling to find her blood family more than she was home now. Which left Taryn.
"I do appreciate you taking the time to come and speak with me." There was less formality in those words and more relief. Perhaps she had needed this meeting more than she was willing to let on.

Aether didn't know what to expect.

By all accounts, the lineage that had cultivated the woman before him had always been modest in size. They were not among the great Houses which infamously shaped Mandalorian history, for example. Yet, when Aether arrived, there was only one who received him. Only one who spoke...and the words she chose conveyed a reality that was disheartening. It brought the Mand'alor no pleasure nor joy to hear that a clan was reduced to little. All that what's left were spoken in jest, yet the truth was laced within each syllable.

He said nothing at first, choosing to reach for and removed his helm. His gaze, sulfuric in nature, fell upon hers whilst a genuine smile danced upon his lips.

"Of course I'd show. You're family." he said simply. And that was his truth laid bare. Whether it was one or a thousand, they were vode and he would treat them as such. "I am grateful that you agreed to receive me. Few clans who had laid new roots following the Infernal's Folly have been open to sharing words with me."

Not that he could blame them, given the damage the Infernal had done to the mantle of Sole Ruler.

"Is there somewhere we can sit and break bread?"

Family. That was a word that hadn't been applied to this clan in quite some time now. The concept was still there for the most part, but the actual fundamentals of a family had been missing for entirely too long. Years now, in fact. The reminder caused an uncomfortable ache in Taryn's chest, but the discomfort did not show in her expression.

“Family has a nice ring to it.” She did state, then shifted herself to the side and gestured with an arm towards the compound. “The main building will be more than accommodating.” What few of them were left had prepared for this, even with Taryn being the only one to really want it.

There was evidence of others as she now led the way back towards the building she had come from, but it was by no means impressive amounts in this specific compound. A handful at most, and now that their company had arrived they seemed to have made themselves scarce.

Even still, when Taryn stepped aside to allow Aether further access inside, there were drinks and a small meal waiting. Nothing overly fancy, but even the blonde sighed in delight at the scent of the food.

“Please,” she gestured to the seating and waited before seating herself. At one time, these manners would have made her make fun of herself and cause some form of chaos. Years spent with one former Jedi turned almost-Mando had changed a lot of social temperaments, at least in important settings.

One thing Taryn still couldn't stand however, was small talk. The very idea made her huff quietly and her too straight posture slouched some. “I'm horrible at standing on ceremony.” She revealed. “I reached out because I cannot continue to remain here, stagnant. And I couldn't think of any other way to fix that problem, or try to fix it anyhow.” Tar's hands fell to her sides in her chair. “I need to do more, be more than this. And who better to ask for help than the Mand'alor?”

The blonde warrior led on.

Wordlessly, Mand'alor the Iron followed the warrior into the confines of her clan home. As they moved, it became abundantly apparent that the compound was recently devoid of life. The way the furniture was arranged, the way outercoats and other wear laid on furniture...it spoke of a small number living within the structure. But for now, they were absent. Aether made quiet note of this, yet held his peace.

It wasn't until she led him to the table that he allowed himself to smile. The spread was modest, but genuine. Aether didn't require a feast or red carpet being rolled out. A cut of bread was more than enough to build a bridge between two warriors. What the warrior had prepared was more than sufficient. He sat where she indicated, reaching for a metal cup filled with cool water.

As he did, she laid her thoughts bare.

"Darasuum is the enemy of all Mandalorians." he began, punctuating his thoughts with a small sip of water. "What you feel in your soul is right, and I am happy to help you."

His mug settled down upon the table, creating a resolute thud.

"The Empire has many places where a woman of your caliber would thrive. The question is, what is your soul telling you regarding your kin? Do you need aide convincing them to cast aside the stagnation as well? Or. Will you act despite their current state?"
