Intent: To create an anti-materiel rifle for the Mandalorian Crusaders

Development Thread: If Necessary

Manufacturer: Rusty's Custom Firearms and Cutlery

Model: MP-1

Affiliation: Mandalorians

Modularity: Interchangeable optics

Production: Limited

Material: Durasteel, Alusteel, slugthrower components, microprocessor, rangefinder

Classification: Slugthrower

Size: Man Portable

Length: 1.7 meters

Weight: 15.3 kg

Ammunition Type: RCFC's proprietary 17mm round, power cells

Ammunition Capacity: 10 rounds in detachable box magazine

Effective Range: 1000 meters

Rate of Fire: Semi, technically.

Special Features: Specifically designed to punch through armor. Uses RCFC's proprietary impact prediction software to assist in aiming, also features our recoil reduction tech.

Strengths:
  • Can potentially punch through heavy personal armor at ranges of less than 250 meters, medium personal armor at 500 meters, and light armor at 800 meters. Effective against light vehicle armor at ranges of less than 500 meters, and medium vehicle armor at ranges less than 100 meters. We don't call it the Penetrator for nothing.
  • When used in conjunction with RCFC's proprietary impact prediction software, allows for pinpoint accuracy at great range. Also functions well with mounted optics.
  • Recoil reduction tech makes recoil manageable, but not pleasant.
  • Though RCFC does not produce them, beskarsmiths could potentially make beskar penetrator rounds that may potentially punch through beskar'gam. Even using standard rounds, the kinetic punch has the potential to cause severe injuries to targets under the right circumstances.
Weaknesses:
  • Including the power cell in the magazine would have made them prohibitively large. Uses a separate power cell that loads into the stock, as seen above.
  • The technical descriptor for the size is "man portable." The colloquial term is "karking huge." Though it could technically be used in a close combat situation, doing so is not advisable for a variety of reasons, not the least of which because it would have difficulty fitting through hallways lengthwise.
  • Even with recoil reduction tech included, the recoil is enough to injure an incautious shooter. Proper training is mandatory for effective use.
  • This is not a stealth weapon. Between the massive size and the tremendous muzzle blast, the MP-1 is not anyone's first choice for a covert mission.
Description: When approached about the potential for commissioning a weapon for the Mandalorian Crusaders, [member="Zef Halo"] had one directive for RCFC: Give us your best shot. Well, Mr. Halo, here it is.

The MP-1 is a massive and massively powerful rifle that defies both common sense and conventional wisdom on firearms manufacturing. It's not designed to be user friendly, or even particularly manageable. It's designed to do one thing and do that one thing really well: defeat armor. Given the frequency in which Mandalorians find themselves engaging armored targets, it seemed like a good idea at the time.

The weapon uses the 17mm round used by the GRTD heavy machinegun and the OL-2 sniper rifle, but in a fundamentally different capacity. Rather than being designed for long ranged encounters, it's designed to be used at ranges of less than 1000 meters against armored targets. When used in conjunction with RCFC's impact prediction software, which utilizes a rangefinder and a microprocessor to predict where the bullet will land, it's capable of pinpoint precision, so long as it's properly zeroed and the shooter is properly trained.

And make no mistake, training with this weapon is essential. Even with the recoil reduction system, which uses an electromagnet to propel a counterweight in the opposite direction of the bullet's line of travel to negate a portion of the recoil, the kick is tremendous, enough to potentially injure a shooter who isn't paying awful close attention to how they're using the weapon. Though the weapon is technically semiautomatic, firing more than one shot every second and a half dramatically increases the chances of both catastrophic failure of the weapon and injury to the shooter.

Unlike most recent RCFC products that use our recoil reduction system, the power cell is not integrated into the magazine. Instead, it slots into the weapon's stock. Doing so saved space in the already large magazines, and also allows them to last longer. The power cell will need to be replaced every 100 shots, and is rechargeable.

RCFC does not deal with beskar on anything other than unique products. However, a Mandalorian beskarsmith who is willing to put in the work and make the submission could potentially create beskar rounds for the MP-1. Doing so would dramatically increase its penetration power, potentially even allowing for the penetration of beskar'gam at extreme close ranges. However, and I cannot stress this enough, RCFC does not make these rounds, and any use without a submission to back it up should be reported.

Modification:
Changing affiliation from Mandalorian Crusaders to Mandalorians because the former faction no longer exists but there are still a lot of mandalorian characters around.
Original Section(s):

Affiliation: Mandalorian Crusaders (Sales to Mandalorians outside of the Crusaders may be approved if a Crusader vouches for the buyer)

New Section(s):

Affiliation: Mandalorians

Please add "make beskar penetrator rounds that may potentially punch"

I would be more comfortable on this being clear that it isn't a guarantee.
