PERSONALITY AND BELIEFS
Corellia Above All: Mance's highest concern is his homeworld: Corellia. He cares little for the events on other worlds outside of how they may indirectly, or sometimes directly, effect Corellia or its allies. Furthermore he is more than willing to put his life, or the lives of others, at risk if he feels that doing so is in Corellia's best interest.
Heart of Duty: To neglect one's duties is to suffer a moral failure. One must always carry out the duties and responsibilities given to them to the best of their ability.
Law and Order: Impartial laws and the stability they provide are one of the galaxy's greatest inventions. Such laws and the institutions that uphold them must be protected at all costs from interference, corruption, and neglect.
STRENGTHS
Experienced Tactician: Mance started his military career at a young age, serving within the Corellian Defense Force. During this time he worked alongside many larger organizations including the Galactic Alliance and now the High Republic. His many years of service, his time at the Correllian University in between deployments, and a natural understanding of tactics has made him a skilled and respected commander.
Swordplay: Most of Mance's childhood was spent among the Green Jedi as a padawan. During that time he excelled with a saber, that knowledge carrying over to his years in the military where he still carried and practiced with a blade. He is now a master of his chosen weapon, the heft and weight of a blade feeling natural in his hands.
Charismatic Stoicism: Mance is not known to smile often, yet many find him easy to speak, good at holding conversations, and knowledgable on many topics. This natural charisma has helped him go far, especially as he begins his career in politics.
WEAKNESSES
Blaster-Blind: While nominally trained in the use of blasters and other ranged weapons, Mance rarely practices with them. This has lead to him underperforming in long range engagements, situations he attempts to avoid.
Force Weakness: Mance, while force sensitive, is not strong in the force. Most individuals trained in the usage of the force can deal with his force abilities without much effort.
HISTORY
Childhood
Mance never knew his parents, they had abandoned him at such a young age that his first memories were formed in as a padawan among the Green Jedi. Apparently his parents knew of his force sensitivity and were too poor to care for him, so when the Green Jedi approached them they handed Mance over with little convincing. Being raised among scholars and philosophers, each eager to care for a young and promising padawan, satiated young Mance's immense curiosity. History, natural science, biology, and every other topic young Mance's mind could grasp on to was at his fingertips. This suited the young and quiet Mance quite well, as he more often spent his time reading rather than playing with others his own age.
This unending appetite for knowledge and the virtues instilled in him from such a young age made him a prime padawan candidate, and he started his training mere days after his thirteenth birthday. Yet the knight who took him in ultimately found him difficult to train. He questioned everything that was taught to him, interrogating every fact, opinion, or tradition held by the Green Jedi with the critical eye of youth. While his master was ever patient and attempted to guide Mance back to the path laid out for him since childhood, Mance frequently rebelled against what he viewed as meaningless restrictions. Ultimately, after five years, Mance would step away from the order.
Young Adulthood
His time among the Jedi had taught him many things, chief among them being duty, responsibility, and planning. He knew he lacked the support network and formal education needed to make it big in the corporate sector, and felt that his skills were wasted doing simple manual labor. So he would ultimately enlist with the Corellian Defense Force, feeling the strict hierarchy of the CDF would be a good fit for his personality and beliefs. To an extent he was correct, but the brutal training of the CDF was a shock to one used to the compassion of the Jedi. At first he lashed out, similarly to his time in the order. But the CDF, like many militaries across the galaxy, had a long tradition of forging the rowdy into the refined.
Mance's adoption into his unit was a brutal one. More than one time he defied orders only to find the fists and boots of his comrades-at-arms upon returning to the barracks. Uniformity was enforced through the instruction of his superiors and the brutal reprimands of his peers whenever he stepped out of line. By the time his initial training was completed and he was deployed star-side, he was the model of a Corellian soldier.
The strict routine aboard a starship as a petty officer would perhaps be the most influential years in Mance's life. It is here he learned how to command those around him, how to charm those beneath him to do as he wishes without ever removing the threat of punishment or retaliation. He was a stern, though well liked commander, who would rapidly ascend the ranks through mastering the petty politics of the officer's lounge while regularly achieving success with any missions or duties he was charged with. By the time he would reach his thirites he was already the captain of a small frigate serving alongside the Galactic Alliance in the Alliance's earliest years.
Later Adulthood
By the time of his retirement in 898ABY Mance was a well known name in the Corellian government; a respected and recently promoted admiral who had rarely delivered poor results and who could charm a room with his oddly endearing sterness. Few knew his reasoning for retirement; a general disgust at Corellia's willingness to rely so heavily on the Alliance or its allies rather than remaining self sufficient and independent as it had in years past. Mance had watched as more and more of the equipment of the CDF was adopted from other governments, as Corellian corporations were outcompeted due to lack of any kind of support, and how in the latter years the discipline and respect of the CDF had waned with how the public's perception had changed; viewing the CDF as an unnecessary waste of funds with the rise of the Alliance.
With a few associates who left the CDF with him, Mance would attempt to change things. With what money he and his associates could pool together he would found Bela Vistal Armory. BVA would be Mance's small contribution to Corellia, his attempt to develop new equipment for the CDF, especially in the areas of small arms, armor, and infantry equipment. With what connections he had in the government he was able to secure a few minor contracts, a point of pride as Mance saw himself bringing Corellian technology and engineering back to the CDF.
Most funds made by BVA were reinvested in the company, helping it slowly grow to a few locations across Corellia's surface. The company's growth would skyrocket in 902ABY, though Mance had wished it hadn't needed to. With the coming of the Plane Shift Corellia's supply lines were shattered and suddenly the CDF needed to find new local suppliers to arm its personnel. Bela Vistal Armory was of course more than happy to assist, manufacturing equipment and selling it only a few credits above the equipment's cost to produce. This frenzy would brighten even more as the Sith laid waste to the core worlds, and Corellia found itself independent once again.
Not willing to stand by in such a time of crisis, Mance would rejoin the CDF with an invitation from several old superiors. Here he would assist in organizing the CDF to defend not only Corellia, but all the inhabited worlds of the Corell system. Such time of anarchy saw several pirate fleets form, and Mance's skill was necessary to assure the Corell system could keep some semblance of order.
Modern Day
With Corellia's induction into the High Republic Mance saw the early warnings of the same lapse of discipline that had originally disgusted him and caused him to leave the Corellian Defence Force. Many were willing to sit on their haunches and let the Republic defend Corellia from the Sith, but Mance had seen what relying on an external government to protect Corellia had ultimately led to. So, with new found fame and influence he would found The Five Brothers League; a political party and paramilitary organization dedicated to the independence and defense of the Corell system. While certainly not a main stream party, the FBL saw growth across each of the five inhabited worlds of the Corell system due to many sharing Mance's opinions and disatisfaction with their governments.
Mance continues to lead the Five Brothers League, seeking to promote its popularity and one day even secure the senate seat for the Corell system. If the Corell system is ever to be safe it is by Corellian hands that safety will be maintained.
