SETTING INFORMATION
Shipyards Name: Malvern Point Shipyards
Classification: Orbital Shipyards
Location: Geonosis
Affiliation: Confederacy of Independent Systems
Population: Heavily Staffed
Accessibility: Teeming with activity around the clock, Malvern Point Shipyards is in constant production, with daily deliveries of parts and materials from throughout the Confederate territories and across the galaxy, as well as shuttles ferrying supplies, workers, staff, and military personnel to and from the station. Heavily-guarded (See Security below for details), access is limited to restricted personnel and visitors only.
Description: Recognizing the need to increase starship production and enhance its already formidable military, scientific, and humanitarian fleets, the Confederacy built Malvern Point in what can only be described as record speeds. Able to mass produce ships of virtually any size, using cutting edge and state-of-the-art technologies and methods, as well as to maintain an aggressive research rate, Malvern Point Shipyards is easily one of the finest facilities of its kind anywhere in the galaxy. More than a million workers, military personnel, and support staff travel to and from Malvern Point every day, with round-the-clock production and services making it a hub of activity beyond most any other place in Confederate space.

OPERATIONS INFORMATION
Production: Able to produce ships ranging from starfighters to up to star destroyers; super star destroyers and dreadnaughts are produced elsewhere.
Specialty: Much of the Confederacy’s Ministry of Science research and development into new starship designs and technology occurs here, as well as continuous production of ships for all aspects of Confederate operations.
Output: Significant automation and advanced manufacturing capabilities allow an output of 100 starfighters per day, and as much as a single star destroyer every four weeks. This rate of production can be doubled in times of emergency for short periods.
Market: Confederacy of Independent Systems’ exclusive use.
POINTS OF INTEREST:
Starfighter Production Wing: Automated factory facility, able to produce as many as one hundred starfighters per day at maximum output. State-of-the-Art facility, with multiple assembly lines and fabrication services, skilled technicians and engineers maintain the massive apparatus in peak performance, making it able to mass-produce any starfighter designs in use by the Confederacy.
Capital Ship Production Wing: A massive area, using the same state-of-the-art technologies as those found in the Starfighter Production Wing, this portion of Malvern Point is dedicated to the production of all manner of large vessels, ranging from deep-space exploratory ships to ships-of-the-line for the Confederate Naval Service.

Research & Development Wing, a.k.a. “The Black Hole”: A division of the CIS’ Ministry of Science, this facility produces and tests various starship components and designs for potential future production and use. Highly top-secret, access here is exceedingly restricted and the facility is guarded by elite CIS personnel, using ‘bleeding-edge’ security technologies. It earned its nickname due to the compulsive secrecy and silence surrounding ongoing projects there. Under CIS law, anyone not authorized for access is sentenced to death and security personnel are permitted deadly force without limitations here, even for the occasional lost worker who inadvertently finds himself in the wrong corridor!
Facilities Directorship: Command and control centers, factory supervisory offices, as well as executive facilities for key personnel are found in this area. From conference rooms to massive computer facilities to the offices of Malvern Point Shipyards’ directorate personnel, the “FD” is the heart and mind of the sprawling station.
Permanent Staff Housing, a.k.a “The ‘Burbs”: With almost thirty-thousand full-time residential staff and their families living aboard, Malvern Point offers furnished apartments, recreational facilities, on-station gardens and hydroponics farms, cafeterias, a medical facility, schools for children, and more. A virtual city in space, the permanent staff housing facilities, nicknamed “The ‘Burbs” represent one of the largest orbital communities in the entire CIS area of influence.
SECURITY: Maximum
Adjoining the shipyards is Malvern Point Naval Base, which is a fully-functional military facility offering full-scale security and protection to the shipyards and aiding in the planetary defense of the Confederate capital below. Routine system-wide patrols, long-range sensor arrays, quick-reaction forces, and powerful orbital weapons and station defenses supplement the nearly fifty-thousand personnel-strong garrison. Boasting several wings of starfighters, as well as its own fleet of star destroyers, frigates, and corvettes (assigned on rotational duty from across the Confederate Navy, usually as part of ‘shakedown’ operations after construction or refitting) as well as support ships and four battalions of Confederate Marines and another six battalions of battle droids, Malvern Point Naval Base is fully prepared and ready to defend the shipyards and the planet of Geonosis against most any threat.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION:
Construction began in the immediate aftermath of the hard-won Confederate victory at the Battle of Taanab, where – faced with seemingly incredible odds – Confederate fleets managed to push back the United Clans of Mandalore and their allies, winning the day but not without both significant losses and lessons learned. Able to churn out thousands of ships each year, Malvern Point Shipyards is one of the largest, most expensive, and most advanced facilities of its kind in use today, rivaling the legendary Kuat Drive Yards and others facilities in use during the time of the Galactic Republic and its successor state, the Galactic Empire.
With over a million personnel, the mammoth facility is a ‘city in space’, orbiting over the Confederate capital on Geonosis, and guarded by the adjoining Malvern Point Naval Base, making it conceivably the best-defended shipyard in the galaxy. Every day, hundreds – if not thousands – of metric tons of supplies, materials, parts, and more than eight-hundred thousand personnel travel to and from the station, and placing it as one of the busiest spaceports in the galaxy!
