Josh would smile and shake the man's hand when he introduced himself. "It is an honor, Padawan Westender" Josh would respond calmly. And then the question came. It was an interesting first question. Most first questions he got from Padawans was far simpler, and it took him aback a little bit. But Josh steeled himself. That was fine. Unexpected, but he had no issues with it. Only a gentle smile and a nod of his head as he would pace the room and begin to ponder his question.
"The typical Jedi Code itself is a bit dated in it's wording" Josh would admit. "It is a fragment of an Order that in it's flaws, it's discouraging any sort of feelings or emotions and other aspects that make us whole... Ultimately became it's own downfall. Many Orders have risen in it's stead since as the generations have gone by. Some have made their own Codes, and yet... Many keep the original. But they do not always follow it. It is a strange thing... Taking a Code they do not follow to the letter, just out of tradition. So my lesson for you today will not be on the Jedi Code itself. Even I do not follow it's exact wordings to the letter, for it was originated by an era long gone, and one who's failings myself and others have learned from. To understand the Code is to understand the ways of the ones that came before us. So... Perhaps to educate you on that Code itself would be to mislead you and lead you down the same path that doomed others."
Josh scratched his beard a bit, thinking it over a bit more.
"Perhaps, instead..." He trailed off. "I should encourage you to find your own personal Code. The Jedi Way and the Jedi Code are two different things. But while the Code is outdated, the Jedi Way is not, and tends to differ depending on where you are. The Silver Jedi's Way, by what I can interpret... Is to protect others, to protect the peace in this Galaxy. To heal those who need healing. To be a shield for those who need it. Never to kill unnecessarily. To approach situations with honor, empathy and compassion in your heart. For only when you can approach situations with these in your heart, and these things on your mind, can you fulfill your duties the way that they should be done.
But that's just my interpretation of the Silver Jedi Way. Jyoti Nooran is a pretty good source for more information on that, as well as about if there is a specific way that the Silver Jedi adopts the Jedi Code."
Josh scratched his head a bit.
"That's actually a question I might bring to her myself, now that you have me curious."
Josh then returned to the situation at hand.
"While I do that, I would suggest adopting a Code of your own. Think about the kind of person you are, think about the kind of person you want to be and as a member of the Silver Jedi... What of our ways you can apply to yourself. Consider a creed to follow, one that is absolute and fits you. We'll make that a bit of homework for you to bring to your next lesson. By your next lesson, I will hopefully have done some digging of my own with the Grandmaster, and I might be able to provide a better answer for you.
Is that satisfactory for the time being?"
