Make Way For The Brand New Star [Dragon School]

The Silver Rest
Kashyyyk

It had been some time since Josh had been assigned a new Padawan. He'd been working with the few that remained, but much of his class had gone their own way. It was a shame, but it was their choices to make. Josh remained here as a teacher for Padawans who wanted one, and he was proud of serving in that role. This new one, [member="William Westender"] was apparently at least minorly experienced. He knew the basics, and had some capability in the Force, so Josh didn't need to give the whole how to use the Force speech. He had to wonder just what this lad would be like...

By the time Westender would reach the training area assigned for him for today, the Jedi Master had just finished preparing it and had been meditating in the centre of the room. Sensing his approach, he would slowly rise to his feet.

"Greetings. I am Josh DragonsFlame, Jedi Master. I will be instructing you from here on. Before we begin, do you have any questions? I understand you've been here for a little bit now. Anything I can do to assist, I will be happy to."

Exchanging his typical attire for the regular padawan robes that had been provided to him, had been a somewhat uneasy change which cemented the finality of William's situation. Before that, everything had seemed a bit surreal, as if it was all somehow a hallucination.

The robes' light material felt somewhat awkward for William, who was used with the heavier coats which nobility on his planet typically wore and he realized that getting accustomed to movement in this attire would take him some time. Then again, he had a lot to adjust to and a little awkwardness here and there would only help to further conceal his affiliation with the secret society he belonged to.

He did, however, keep something of his house colors within his attire. He tied his robes around him with a red and black sash, instead of the plain one that had been given to him along with the rest of his new clothing. He also kept his knee-high leather boots.

Somewhat hesitantly he made his way to the training area to which he had been assigned in order to meet his master. He found the training room relatively easily and he noticed that it was of a similar size to the one in his ancestral castle on Ession, which was currently in the hands of the Sith.

The memories brought back the feelings of pain and loss and he had to draw a long breath in order to collect himself. "Greetings, Master DragonsFlame," the padawan introduced himself, reaching out to shake the Jedi Master's hand. "I am William Mordecai Westender."

In truth, he had more than a few questions, most of them pertaining to the Jedi Code, which he had taken the time to read and tried to make sense of, but none of the materials he had found in the archives had helped explain it in detail. Perhaps his master would point out to him which volumes to seek out. There were other questions, of course, such as what his role and tasks would be, but he supposed his master would soon answer these anyway, so there was no point in asking.

"Yes, I do have a question. I browsed the archives for materials that explain the Jedi Code better, but I couldn't find any. I was thinking that maybe you could point out what to look for, or explain it to me yourself," he said.

Josh would smile and shake the man's hand when he introduced himself. "It is an honor, Padawan Westender" Josh would respond calmly. And then the question came. It was an interesting first question. Most first questions he got from Padawans was far simpler, and it took him aback a little bit. But Josh steeled himself. That was fine. Unexpected, but he had no issues with it. Only a gentle smile and a nod of his head as he would pace the room and begin to ponder his question.

"The typical Jedi Code itself is a bit dated in it's wording" Josh would admit. "It is a fragment of an Order that in it's flaws, it's discouraging any sort of feelings or emotions and other aspects that make us whole... Ultimately became it's own downfall. Many Orders have risen in it's stead since as the generations have gone by. Some have made their own Codes, and yet... Many keep the original. But they do not always follow it. It is a strange thing... Taking a Code they do not follow to the letter, just out of tradition. So my lesson for you today will not be on the Jedi Code itself. Even I do not follow it's exact wordings to the letter, for it was originated by an era long gone, and one who's failings myself and others have learned from. To understand the Code is to understand the ways of the ones that came before us. So... Perhaps to educate you on that Code itself would be to mislead you and lead you down the same path that doomed others."

Josh scratched his beard a bit, thinking it over a bit more.

"Perhaps, instead..." He trailed off. "I should encourage you to find your own personal Code. The Jedi Way and the Jedi Code are two different things. But while the Code is outdated, the Jedi Way is not, and tends to differ depending on where you are. The Silver Jedi's Way, by what I can interpret... Is to protect others, to protect the peace in this Galaxy. To heal those who need healing. To be a shield for those who need it. Never to kill unnecessarily. To approach situations with honor, empathy and compassion in your heart. For only when you can approach situations with these in your heart, and these things on your mind, can you fulfill your duties the way that they should be done.

But that's just my interpretation of the Silver Jedi Way. Jyoti Nooran is a pretty good source for more information on that, as well as about if there is a specific way that the Silver Jedi adopts the Jedi Code."

Josh scratched his head a bit.

"That's actually a question I might bring to her myself, now that you have me curious."

Josh then returned to the situation at hand.

"While I do that, I would suggest adopting a Code of your own. Think about the kind of person you are, think about the kind of person you want to be and as a member of the Silver Jedi... What of our ways you can apply to yourself. Consider a creed to follow, one that is absolute and fits you. We'll make that a bit of homework for you to bring to your next lesson. By your next lesson, I will hopefully have done some digging of my own with the Grandmaster, and I might be able to provide a better answer for you.

Is that satisfactory for the time being?"
