Chapter I
In a seedy brothel, located in the dark and dangerous depths of a far-flung corner of the galaxy, where violence was a staple and love a rare commodity, Magena was born. Her arrival into the world was anything but auspicious. Her mother, a prostitute, abandoned her as a mere infant, leaving her in the hands of Randil Dray, a local farmer. Magena's upbringing was one of constant uncertainty and instability, with her father unsure if he was even her real parent. This put an unbearable strain on their relationship, leading to a series of abusive incidents that would haunt her for years to come.
As a teenager, Magena was a wild and unruly creature, rebellious and fraught with wanderlust. The whispers of her troubled nature followed her everywhere she went, leaving her with a chip on her shoulder that never left, and instead of fighting against their assumptions, Magena embraced them. It was an opportunity to rebel and break free from the chains that bound her.
And so, Magena fled to the stars, seeking refuge from the judgmental eyes of those who never understood her, finding solace in the arms of Draven Quane, a ruthless pirate who showed her a different kind of life, one where she could live on her own terms and never look back. Together they roamed the galaxy, pilfering and plundering as they pleased, living a life of thrilling lawlessness. An inseparable team of outlaws who lived for the thrill of the moment.
But their idyllic existence was shattered when Magena discovered she was pregnant.
As the months of her pregnancy progressed, the young Magena found her priorities changing.
The life she had, wasn’t the life she wanted for her child.
Imploring Draven, she asked him to leave their criminal life behind, settle down on a distant planet with the bounty they’d collected, and start their family fresh. But Draven had no intention of giving up his free-wheeling lifestyle and Magena was left heartbroken with nothing but a shattered dream and a growing sense of despair.
In the end, Magena lost her child and was forced to confront the harsh reality of her life. With no friends or family to turn to, no recourse where she could find solace; Magena fled, desperate for something to fill the void in her soul. For a time she tried to drown her sorrows in alcohol and gambling, but there was nothing that could erase the pain of her loss.
Until, she met one Ignasius Van-Derveld, a smuggler with a complicated past and a dangerous reputation who offered her the chance to work with him. Despite knowing better, Magena accepted, drawn to the potential danger and excitement of his lifestyle.
Unsurprisingly, their relationship was tumultuous, often swaying between passion and intense hatred, both knowing that the other could turn on them at any moment.
And so, Magena found herself back where she’d started, living a life of crime and deceit. But this time… there was a reckless abandon that spoke of a woman who had nothing left to lose.
