- Description: The maeroceros is a colossal grazing beast distinguished by its plated chest and branching crown of conductive antlers. Herds move along migration routes older than many cities, forcing roads, settlements and military exercises to yield before them. During storms, pale arcs of electricity pass between their antlers, turning an advancing herd into a moving field of blue-white fire.

Males carry larger, more elaborate crowns, while females possess shorter forward-curving antlers better suited to herd defence. Calves are born without plating, which hardens over several years. Elderly specimens display scarred chest plates, asymmetrical antlers and pale mineral streaks along the skull.

- General behavior: Maeroceros live in large migratory herds led by experienced females. Adults form defensive walls around calves when threatened, placing their plated chests and antlers outward. They are usually calm at a distance, but once startled, the movement of one animal can become a continent of flesh in motion.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The maeroceros is native to Vandemar and has crossed its northern plains since before recorded settlement. Its conductive antlers likely evolved as a means of dispersing electrical charge during frequent seasonal storms, later becoming central to mating displays and herd communication.
Early Vandemarian expansion repeatedly collided with maeroceros migration routes. Walls, rail lines and agricultural districts were destroyed not through aggression, but because the herds refused to abandon paths ingrained across thousands of generations.
Modern infrastructure is built around them. Transit corridors close during migration seasons, elevated roads cross recognised routes and orbital monitoring tracks herd movement months in advance. Hunting is tightly restricted, though injured animals may be culled by provincial wardens.
The maeroceros is not considered gentle. Vandemarians respect it because even their civilisation learned to step aside.
