VOICE SAMPLE

Standing well over two meters tall, Macoda Haberon is a giant amongst men. His enormous stature makes for an intimidating first impression and marks him as a clear non-human, something which Mac often gets self-conscious about. He normally takes up the entire space of a door frame and still feels the self-conscious urge to duck when walking in and out of rooms. Mac supports very broad shoulders with a thick neck, defined chest and back, impressive arms, and powerful legs. His scars tell a story of their own, covering his arms, back, and torso, left from opposing gladiators or particularly cruel slave drivers. However, some may be surprised to find a rather youthful if not rugged face at the top of Mac’s strongly built body. Behind his beard often sits a toothy grin or a crooked smirk, and Mac takes in the world through two intelligent and lively eyes. Despite that fact that Mac is 41 years old, he is only considered a young adult by Epicanthic standards as they lead significantly longer lives that their human counterparts.
Mac often forgoes wearing heavy armor, instead choosing to take advantage of his surprising speed. In place of heavy armor, Mac often wears a comfortable and useful leather outfit over a loose-fitting undershirt. Regardless of the occasion, Mac is always accompanied by his most prized possession: a pair of phrik axes that were once his father’s.

At his worst, Mac is barbaric, suspicious, and stubborn. He is very slow to trust and almost never truly opens up about his own feelings. He loves to kill more than he wants to admit as it gives him a sense of power and control which was once taken away from him during his time as a slave. It also provides a euphoric outlet for both his fear and his anger which plague him constantly. He can become intensely anxious when he is out of his element. Mac also suffers intensely from PTSD and certain feelings of dread can trigger a violent episode or a nervous breakdown. His darkest times often come in the midst of battle, where his true lust for blood is revealed and his bottled-up rage explodes onto his enemies and sometimes even his friends.

(+) AXEMAN OF FORNOW: Macoda Haberon is nothing if not a fighter. Having been raised on a frontier planet that was constantly engulfed in clan warfare, Mac learned how to fight at an early age, to the point of leading his own raiding parties before he even reached adulthood. After the invasion of Fornow, Mac was sold to an arena on Loovria where he trained as a gladiator and fought for money, glory, and fun. Though he was initially bought to be slaughtered in one of the bloody spectacles, Mac eventually made it onto “The List” after numerous upsetting victories which spared him from the more suicidal fights and cemented his status as one of the best and most profitable fighters in the arena. Dubbed the “Axeman of Fornow”, Mac honed his fighting style as a gladiator under the guidance of Isshara the Great. Taking after his mentor, Macoda’s fighting style is simply feral. He does not use a set code or fighting technique as some melee fighters do, choosing to instead rely on pure instinct and raw emotion to deliver strikes with his surprising speed and overwhelming strength. It should come as no surprise that Macoda is a three-time champion of the Loovrian Bloodbowl. Though Mac is of an average height for a Fornosi Epicanthix, he stands in at well over two meters and supports broad shoulders, a thick chest, muscled arms, and a strong back. His powerful legs also allow Mac to move quickly for a man his size, giving him an element of surprise over unsuspecting attackers. Truly, Macoda Haberon is a master of melee combat.
(+) ATTUNED TO THE FORCE: Whether he admits it or not, Mac has stronger connection with the Force than the average person. While he is not able to tap into the energy of the Force like a true Force-sensitive, Mac can feel when a particularly strong aura surrounds someone, marking their status as a Force user. However, refusing to believe that he has any connection to the Force, Mac passes off his ability to recognize Force users as little more than a product of instinct or intuition. Regardless of where this ability comes from, it cannot be denied that Mac is afraid of what he feels. The dark and overwhelming aura of Kaine Zambrano has left Mac with many sleepless nights and an intense fear with those who are gifted in the Force. Luckily, as an Epicanthix, Mac also possesses a rare immunity to force manipulation and mind tricks. This rare natural immunity, coupled with his force attunement, leaves Mac well equipped to protect himself from his fear of Force users.

(+) SON OF DORN: Though there are noticeable differences between the two, Macoda Haberon does take after his late father, King Dorn the Uniter. Dorn was a man of great honor and wisdom who provided a calm and level-headed view in a world that was seeped in petty clanish feuds and close-minded traditions. Possessing a rare thirst for knowledge, Dorn was one of the few Fornosi Epicanthix who traveled abroad for his education. While abroad, Dorn witnessed the extraordinary potential of a united people, and sought to unite the clans of Fornow into a whole that was greater than its parts. In an effort to cement the legacy that he would build, Dorn tried his best to instill the same values in Mac, his only child. As such, Mac was raised with a far better education than most of the other Epicanthix on the back-water planet of Fornow. Perhaps most importantly, Dorn tried to instill in Mac the same level-headed character which he himself possessed and which was rare in their culture. To a degree, the teachings of the single father took hold. Mac is very empathetic and can easily understand and relate to the emotions of others, allowing him to become a great friend and ally with the ability to talk down situations in which he himself is not riled up. And while Mac has a far greater proclivity towards violence in comparison to Dorn, he also serves as a surprising source of compromise. However, it should be noted that while Macoda takes after his father to a degree, he also has a more difficult time in controlling both his anger and fear, something which Mac himself is ashamed of.
(-) STANDING TALL: To strangers, it is quite clear that Macoda Haberon has a problem with authority. However, upon closer inspection, there is more to Mac’s rebellious nature and blatant disregard of rules than one might initially assume. Having been raised in an Epicanthic culture that values performance in a leader above all else, Mac cares little for the formalities and traditions which characterize many of the political and legal institutions that he encounters. Mac is not afraid of breaking rules which he does not believe in and betraying leaders in which he does not respect. Since Mac is naturally suspicious of most people that he encounters, he has been written off numerous times as insubordinate or rebellious. However, in contrast to what most people think, Mac does not see it this way. Instead, he chooses to swear loyalty to the few people he deems to be worthy of his loyalty, not to governments or abstract causes. Betraying leaders or breaking rules mistakenly assumes that Mac viewed them as leaders or rules worthy to be followed in the first place. Nevertheless, this somewhat archaic way of thinking that is remnant of his culture has landed him in trouble before, and probably will continue to do so.
(-) TEARS OF THE BERSERKER: Mac believes that what makes a warrior great is not his strength or skill or honor, but his sheer will to live. Whether it be through anger or fear or both, this is the fire that pushes a man over the edge and over it again. To do what is necessary to win and live. Mac had learned this painful truth quickly enough during his time as a gladiator. Underneath the gentle confidence, teasing tone, and toothy smile hides a broken and unstable young man who is cursed with both an unfathomable rage and an indescribable fear. Mac tries to hide this form of himself the best he can. He tries to be like his level headed, honorable, and collected father. However, the cold truth is that Mac enjoys killing people. It gives him a sense of control that he rarely feels anymore and provides a euphoric outlet to his rage and fear. So, when cooler heads don’t prevail, when the fear gets the best of Mac, when the walls that Mac has carefully built up come crumbling down, the seasoned warrior explodes into a state of pure and utter rage. Almost always with tears in his eyes.
(-) FEAR OF THE FORCE: Though he won't admit it, Mac has a debilitating fear of the Force. He was never exposed to Force users when growing up since force-sensitivity on Fornow was exceedingly rare. His first encounter with a Force user would leave him traumatized forever. After Kaine Zambrano brutally conquered Fornow with his horde of Graug in his insatiable desire for power, Clan Haberon met the Sith Lord’s force on the battlefield in one last stand of glory with Dorn the Uniter and his young son, Macoda Haberon, leading the army against Kaine Zambrano in the flesh. Mac, having never sensed a Force user before, was simply overwhelmed by the dark aura of Kaine Zambrano as it was nothing he had ever felt before and a clear surprise to Mac. The feeling of indescribable dread emanating from Kaine Zambrano had brought Macoda Haberon to his knees and shook him to his core. Paralyzed, it was all Mac could do to look upon his father who was screaming and writhing on the ground in pain as Kaine Zambrano electrocuted him to death with a form of eldritch lightning. The dark dread felt that night would continue to haunt Mac for the years to come, as will the screams of his father and the sight of a world on fire.
