DESCRIPTION
There’s only one way a gargantuan Herglic commando could be more terrifying than he already is. And that way is equipping him with the MA1 Herglic Power Armor. Designed for Herglics by Herglics, those lucky few Darkwater Security personnel equipped with this armor are made all the more lethal on the field of battle.
Helmets were the first to be designed for the MA1 and include a number of features. Some of these are more basic, like a HUD, an air filtration system, a number of vision settings, photochromatic lenses, and internal comlink, and so forth. What sets it aside from other suits of power armor is the presence of an integrated micro-J2 droid brain as a processor and a NeuroSaav K65 targeting system. The type of droid brain employed here isn’t so much a true droid brain, as its rudimentary usage prevents it from developing sapience. It is only there to run the targeting system and process the other features of the armor, as well as regulate power usage.
Since Hegemonic Automaton only designs things worthy of note, it should come as no surprise that beskar was the chief metal found in the MA1. A large quantity of the metal was acquired by Neuro-Saav during an auction. This sum was used to kick-start production on the MA1. In addition to beskar, the MA1 also makes use of molytex fabric in order to insure greater resistance to blaster shots in the event the beskar is breached. The molytex also does much to help reduce the concussive force from blaster bolts as well, preventing bruising to Herglic blubber. Finally, there’s the deflector shield.
The shield utilized by the MA1 is roughly similar to that employed centuries upon centuries ago by the armor of the Republic’s famous Delta Squad.http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Katarn-class_commando_armor With the shield alone, the armor can sustain multiple shots from most blaster rifles and small arms. From sustained barrages and composite beams, however, the shield will quickly be overloaded and deactivate. The shield also places strain on the power supply, and so the armor cannot augment the wearer’s strength while it is active.
The deflector shield also inadvertently places a glaring weakness in the armor. The power supply is located in the back, under a slightly thicker plate of beskar. If this plate were breached and the power cell hit with any amount of blaster fire, the explosion will probably kill the Herglic wearing the armor and grievously injure anyone around him.
Several other non-combative features are found in the armor itself. An internal heating system will keep those Herglics wearing the armor nice and warm in the event they end up somewhere unreasonably cold. A waste storage and removal system is also in place, because sometimes battles last several days, power armor is difficult to remove, and Herglics cannot hold it in forever.
The gauntlets of the MA1 also hold a variety of useful gadgets, such as a micro-datapad, a general purpose scanner, and a cutting torch. You’ll never know when these will come in handy, but it’s always good to have them around.
