OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Locke & Key Mechanics
  • Affiliation: Locke and Key Mechanics (parent company), The Dire Wolves Mercenary Company, Closed-Market
  • Model: M3 MAAWS (Multipurpose Anti-Tank Anti-Personnel Weapon System)
  • Modularity: None
  • Production: Minor
  • Material: Alusteel tube and breach lock, optical components for weapon sight and rangefinder laser attached to weapon sight. Polymer front grip, rubber shoulder guard attached to plate to keep the weapon from sliding around while firing. Polymer carry handle across the top for ease of carrying without a sling (however launcher is compatible with most slings designed for heavy weapons). https://www.starwarsrp.net/threads/rwa-m1-integrated-weapons-scope.133315/
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Recoilless Rifle
  • Size: Large
  • Weight: Heavy
  • Ammunition Type: Standard Recoilless Rifle rounds: High Explosive Variable Fuse, Anti-Tank, Ion cannister, Thermobaric, High Explosive Dual Purpose, Flare rounds, Incendiary
Rocket Assisted Laser Guided Recoilless Rifle Rounds: High Explosive, Anti-Tank, and High Explosive Dual Purpose.
  • Ammunition Capacity: Extremely Small , 1 round
  • Effective Range: Long Range, Battlefield, Standard rounds have a maximum effective range of 1.2 kilometers, rocket assisted rounds have maximum effective range of 2 kilometers.
  • Rate of Fire: Very Low at expert trained gunnery a single Gunner can get one round out every 5-7 seconds.
  • Stopping Power: Extreme it's an 84mm High Explosive round at best….. good luck.
  • Recoil: None
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Laser range-finder integrated into the weapons optics to provide active range data to targets in ballistic mode, which can either automatically adjust without the operator having to do anything but turn on the range-finder, or in a manual mode displays range to target and ticks for three different ballistic trajectories, Ion cannisters having shortest range, High Explosive Variable Fuse having the longest range, Anti-Tank having the middle ground trajectory which most rounds follow. Variable fuse rounds have three different settings, delay fuse, contact fuse, or radar delay fuse. Delay fuse is as it sounds, it hits something waits a little bit then detonates allowing it to go through "soft" targets like dirt or mud huts or other things to maximize damage. Contact fuse is simple, hits and then bang. Radar delay fuse is where the round will detect it's passing by/through/over something, wait a preset time (converted to distance before hand) and then detonates. All Rocket Assisted rounds are laser designator aimed only, allowing for extreme precision but require a second soldier.
STRENGTHS
  • Accurate at Range, hard hitting, versatile, and for a heavy weapon it's relatively light. Also projectile speed is extreme which allows for accurate shots at extended ranges.
WEAKNESSES
  • Can only fire once before needing to reload. Each round weighs between 10-15 pounds, rocket assisted rounds weigh 20 pounds.
  • Weapon System requires personnel to be either properly trained to utilize properly or have two man team to effectively engage targets at multiple ranges.
  • Rocket Assisted rounds can only be laser guided, manual attempts to fire will generally only hit rough areas (groupings of 200+ meters).
  • Back blast is a huge issue with standard rounds, as the way the weapon system is recoilless is that equal amount of pressure that propels the round, is also released out the back. This overpressure when not properly protected against, can be lethal in enclosed spaces, and when infantry can get caught in the radius behind the system also can be lethal or cause serious injury. This can be negated by inserting a small water disk to absorb and disperse the energy more safely in enclosed spaces, but requires a special and deliberate loading process that takes even longer to load fresh rounds (add 10 seconds to every reload on expert crew, longer for single Gunner or untrained crew). And when you're in a fight for your life, every, second, counts.
DESCRIPTION
This idea begins actually during the wars that Sergei fought in while he was growing up isolated from the rest of the galaxy. One of the major weapon systems that Sergei excelled at use was a Recoilless Rifle. He learned the weapon inside and out, noting that even with the lower level of technology by galactic standards, their "Carl Gustav" had unparalleled accuracy compared to even modern man portable missile launchers. This was due to round weight, initial velocity from point of fire, and that while a missile that is guided can be spoofed or otherwise defeated by active countermeasures, a ballistic round could not. The "Carl Gustav" was loved by its users and feared by all enemies of Sergei's nation and for good reason. A single Gunner on a Gustav could inside of 20 seconds disable an entire platoon of tanks, or wipe out two platoons of infantry in the open.

Fast forward almost a year or so, and Sergei has tried many of the different missile and Anti-Tank weapons provided by multiple manufacturers that are at the bleeding edge of technology, but none stood up to his tests. None of them had the dumb fire accuracy, the reliability, or the versatility to adapt the weapons to multiple combat scenarios. And with technology in the rest of the galaxy allows it to be much more adaptable, allowing for the extreme level of versatility that the MAAWS advertises. There is literally an answer for every problem with the MAAWS. Enemy infantry? High Explosive Variable Fuse. Need to bring down a building? Thermobaric rounds. Enemy Armor? Anti-Tank or Ion rounds if you want the vehicles intact. Infantry spread out over small pieces of cover or inside a light skinned vehicle? High Explosive Dual Purpose. Want to set a section of anything on fire? Incendiary rounds. Need to give yourself illumination at night and possibly signal to someone in visual range? 84mm flares with parachutes or star clusters. If you have a problem the MAAWS has a solution. And if your enemy thinks they're tough enough to argue with that, try arguing with an 84mm High Explosive Variable Fuse round that's set to detonate the moment it flies over their head. And wish them the best of luck. They'll need it to survive.
