Stormtroopers are relatively defenseless on the battlefield. Oftentimes they are found succumbing to enemy blaster fire, slug-throwers, explosives, etc. The Stormtrooper Corps needed something to counteract this major defensive error of theirs. So, the Corps of Engineers got to work. Prototypes were designed and tested, most failing as they were either too heavy, too slow, or too big to prove any use for infantry platoons and divisions in the field. Finally, the M.S.P. Mark I was decided on. It's a relatively weak droid unit, certainly not the proudest creation of the Corps of Engineers...though it does its job, for the most part at least. The M.S.P. can emit a shield from it, surrounding all nearby troopers within a twelve-meter radius within a deflector shield. The deflector shield absorbs enemy blaster fire, shielding those inside from barrages of enemy laser fire from rivaling infantry or relatively weak turrets. The shield will only defend from blaster-fire due to it being a deflector shield, solid projectiles like shrapnel and slugthrowers will pass straight through the shield with just a little resistance. This will, at the very least, help to notify troopers of an incoming piece of shrapnel. However, in most cases, it just lessens the damage done to a Stormtrooper. As for the negatives of the First in a line of Mobile Shield Platform's, their's quite a few. It's armament and defenses are low as it isn't meant as a giant 'meat-shield' and it isn't meant to pack a punch. The M.S.P. isn't fast as well. That isn't to say it goes at a snail's pace, though it isn't relatively fast...which makes it an easy target to spot on the field of battle.
