STRENGTHS
- Multi-purpose
- The M.I.R. xc/TIE Bomber is a multipurpose Imperial strike craft designed to destroy both enemy starships and hardened planetary targets with equal efficiency.
- Heavily Armed
- The bomber is a heavily armed Imperial strike craft, outfitted with two powerful cannons and a substantial ordnance payload designed for sustained combat operations.
- Speedy
- The ship is a very fast strike craft, engineered to achieve high acceleration and rapidly close the distance between itself and its designated target.
- Stealth
- The M.I.R. xc/TIE Bomber possesses a cloaking system capable of concealing the craft from most forms of detection for a substantial amount of time.
- Short-ranged
- It's a short-range bomber designed for rapid deployment against nearby enemy ships, installations, and planetary targets.
- Low Defensive Capabilities
- The lightweight bomber possesses relatively low defensive capabilities, relying on speed and its cloaking system rather than heavy armor or powerful shielding for protection.
- Enemy Fighters
- The M.I.R. xc/TIE Bomber possesses only two heavy plasma cannons as its primary weapons outside of its dedicated ordnance payload, sorely limiting its effectiveness in direct dogfighting engagements.
- Maneuverability
- The bomber, unfortunately, struggles in the maneuverability department, sacrificing agility for its speed and cloaking systems.
The M.I.R. xc/TIE Bomber was conceived and constructed by The Eidolon Arkwright Consortium for the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant within their own Ruisto Imperial Shipyard facilities. Drawing upon the surviving design principles of two aging Imperial strike craft, the TIE Heavy Bomber and the TIE/sa tactical bomber, E.A.C. engineers sought to create a modernized bomber that retained the destructive capacity of its predecessors while eliminating their more pronounced limitations.
The resulting craft was designed around a simple doctrine; speed, stealth, and concentrated ordnance, producing a bomber capable of striking both enemy starships and planetary targets before rapidly withdrawing from the battle.
The M.I.R. xc/TIE Bomber was deliberately engineered as a short-range strike platform, making its operational doctrine highly dependent upon where it was deployed. When carried aboard a capital ship, or other suitable vessel, squadrons of M.I.R. xc/TIE Bombers could be launched directly into combat and rapidly brought against nearby enemy ships, making their limited range considerably more efficient in space engagements.
Their short-range architecture, however, prevents them from conducting orbital-to-surface bombing missions from distant space; planetary operations therefore require the bombers to already be stationed on the target world or within a nearby operational facility. Once deployed planetside, they can conduct repeated short-range strikes against ground installations, military formations, industrial facilities, and other designated targets.
Although the M.I.R. xc/TIE Bomber can be deployed as an organized squadron and possesses considerable offensive firepower, its designers deliberately accepted significant defensive shortcomings in exchange for speed, stealth, and ordnance capacity. Its limited shielding, comparatively low hull density, restricted maneuverability, and reliance on only two heavy plasma cannons outside its primary ordnance leave it poorly suited to repelling dedicated enemy starfighters.
Consequently, Mahporeem Imperial Remnant Naval commanders may assign friendly fighter escorts to accompany bomber squadrons when hostile air or space superiority is expected, allowing the M.I.R. xc/TIE Bombers to concentrate on reaching their designated targets and delivering their payload rather than becoming trapped in prolonged dogfights.
