Intent: To create a competitive helmet for ZyTech for contract, as well as to provide prototype versions on commission to Red Legion. As well as a dual purpose Helmet for civilian and security applications including mining, law enforcement and exploration.
Development Thread:
Manufacturer: ZyTech
Model: M.I.H MK1 ( Mitigating Infantry Helmet)
Affiliation: ZyTech, for contract to others
Modularity: No Upgrades produced by ZyTech
Production: Mass Produced
Material: Durasteel, Duraplast, Synth Leather, Synth Rubber, Cryonium , Transperasteel
Description:
The Mitigating Infantry Helmet is a medium armor style helmet with a multitude of a built in features and a few switchable features. The M.I.H features a large style visor with built in circuitry to allow a H.U.D feature with limited capabilities. The H.U.D features a B.F.T ( Blue Force Tracker) system that identifies those with the proper RFID ( Radio Frequency Identification) chip to be marked as a friendly to help prevent friendly fire. The H.U.D also features a small mini-map that must be linked to a satellite system or to a ship with the proper sensors. The Mini-map is a flat topographical map that covers only 50 meters radius. The M.I.H has a night vision capability and a built in communications system.
The M.I.H features a built in respirator that scrubs the air before it makes it through the system. It has a self contained air supply of one hour that can be activated for emergencies. The Respirator is linked to the H.U.D with a constant feed of toxicity levels outside and a meter to gauge how much O2 is remaining in the oxygen supply.
The M.I.H also features a gorget and inner lining of Synth rubber with microscopic strands of Cyonium ( ZyTech Trade Mark, Patent Pending) to help protect the wearer from small amounts of radiation and regulate core temperature. The gorget seals air tight to allow the respirator to operate at maximum efficiency. The M.I.H has two high efficiency L.E.D torches built into the helmet on each temple that come standard with white, blue and red lights to suit the users needs.
The M.I.H is made of woven durasteel cables that come up to 7mm in diameter. While being woven has reduced its weight and increased flexibility it has resulted in a 15% durability loss lowering its armor rating. The Woven Cables are lined on top of a synth leather base and then coated with a 1mm layer of Duraplast for added durability. Another draw back of the woven cable armor system is that in theory a knife could go between the cables, though this is an acceptable risk as it is projected to happen at a rate of less then .05671% of all combat fatalities.
In the original design phase Lord Zy wanted a ultra thin coating of Besker to be applied to the outter shell to provide protection against lightsabers. This feature was scrapped due to time constraints and the scarcity of the metal. As well the added weight would have thrown off the proportions and removed the comfort and flexibility that the M.I.H would have enjoyed. All in all the M.I.H can serve most of the galaxy except perhaps in the vacuum of space where the need of a full suit would be required.
We released a small batch to miners of on the planet Dantoine for field test, the mine had an unfortunate accident and collapse a week into the test which suited our observations fine. With the B.F.T system they were able to locate the trapped miners and recover them with higher efficiency then we projected. We believe we can market this to miners at a higher rate then what we first thought and this should be at least profitable in the civilian sector.

Classification: Multipurpose
Weight: 2.26796 kg
Quality: 5
Other Feature(s): The M.I.H Mk1 uses a solar panel to power its system. Its battery life is 14 hours allowing it to function during nights on planets with longer cycles. Beyond 14 hours the M.I.H must have its battery pack replaced with another battery pack.
