Intent: In order to emulate this scene, but instead of Darth Vader, a normal person.
Development Thread: If necessary
Manufacturer: Akovin Stock Co.
Model: Magnetic Energy Absorption Disarmament Glove (M.E.A.D. Glove)
Affiliation: Buyers of Akovin Stock Co.
Modularity: Minor armor upgrades can be installed over the glove, but not on the fingers or palm.
Production: Minor
Material: Durasteel, Circuitry, Empty Power Cell, Magnetic Field Projector
Description: During her hermit years (approximately the six years prior to the Netherworld event, etc.), Triam Akovin had a lot of time to think about things, most of it in the means of technical schematics and ideas. Using what little funds she had (increasingly dwindling after leaving the public scene as a businesswoman), she stockpiled on droid components, and other mechanical devices from all over the galaxy. Using the same magnetizing technique she utilizes for her Phantom Fingers, Triam began testing its ability at dissipating blaster shots. The initial tests indicated that it was effective at dispersing most of the energy, but some of it still damaged the field projector due to the intensity of the bolt. However, these initial prototypes merely produced a shield similar to the archaic Shield Gauntlets that were not entirely effective at their job, and in addition, had severe health issues. Not keen carrying something that could give her cancer all the time (or her clients for that matter, was bad for rep after all), she continued to develop the idea. Testing continued as usual, and on the verge of exasperation, had a wonderful accident. Something as simple as the blaster shot fired at a crooked shield generator. She noticed, that because of the faulty tests angle, more the energy was dissipated as it passed through the field, and produce the least amount of residual energy damaging the generator. This is the inspiration, for the "magnetic funnel" that the glove utilizes to capture blaster bolts.

There was also the problem that the power cell utilized in the glove could not sustain magnetic fields for a satisfactory period before requiring a full recharge at a local power station. Rather than expensively upgrading the size or endurance of the power cell by marginal amounts for lackluster improvement, Triam also decided to draw inspiration from her previous invention, the H.E.R.D. Laser. Using the magnetic funnel, blaster bolts will be lead not to a central generator, but instead an energy converter that uses the residual energy of the dissipated blaster bolt to fill up and increase the power output of the magnetic generator, increasing the power size of the funnel up to a diameter of a two meter, and a distance of 4 meters, from its original output of a 60 centimeters meter diameter and a distance of 1 meter.

As this was done, Triam then gathered a new idea, drawing inspiration from the tool of her greatest opponents: the force. A key strength of the force was the capability to move anything simply by willing it to, which granted users the ability like the above to simply steal weapons from their opponents. Triam decided she would emulate this capability, by taking advantage of the fact that most metals used for weapons were probably attracted to magnets. So, using her current capabilities as a base, she decided she would design the projector with the capability to dilate the magnetic funnel into a narrow beam, capable of specifically attracting any magnetic material she points it at with a great deal of strength that is usually greater than the grip of most beings.

Without any field tests, the latest prototype proved promising to fulfill all its intended functions, those being: protect wearers from blaster fire without extensive use of armor, even after a considerable number of bolts, and the capability to disarm most opponents. It did have some drawbacks however, in that the undilated magnetic field had a maximum of seven bolts before the funnel begins narrowing rather than expanding, decreasing the area in which the user is protected by blaster bolts, and also narrowing the effective means of the glove to absorb more energy until becoming impractical to use. The upper most limit that the shield can protect from, is about a dozen blaster bolts, which is seen as very good, considering that gives the wearer more than enough time to disarm their opponent. Unless of course, the weapon in question is a rapid fire weapon that will render the funnel unusable in mere moments with hundreds of shots per minute. It should also be noted, that the maximum range of the dilated magnetic beam is 8 meters.

Strengths:
  • Protects wearers from blaster fire (up to about a dozen) without extensive use of armor
  • Capability to disarm most opponents (of various species of differing strengths) of their metallic weapons from 8 meters away
  • Can protect a user from a lightsaber for mere moments

Weaknesses:
  • Weak against rapid fire weapons that render it useless in mere moments with the sheer number of bolts sent towards it
  • Not likely to disarm opponents of absurd strength (anything stronger than a wookie), and not likely to disarm unreasonably large metallic objects (droids, personal canons, etc.). However, despite the unlikelihood of disarmament, the magnetic beam should still be capable of pulling metallic objects around (pull a droid, or pull a massive firearm to miss its shot, etc.).
  • After use, user must wait a full thirty seconds before another use (an eternity in a duel or battlefield).

[member="Silara Kuhn"] I worded it the way I did with the netherworld event because I know people who were unsure if it was before or after the timeskip, and Triam wouldn't really have been aware of what was going anyway so yeah. I'll edit it I suppose :p

Also, as for the shot thing you want it... more vague? An odd request but I can do that. I wouldn't really classify it as a stat really so much as a functional limitation, but it can be done. :)

I changed it to "about a dozen" in all instances of the submission where it involved the upper limit of this device in regards to absorbing blaster fire. Is this more acceptably vague?
