OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a better and newer M-2 HMG
  • Canon Link: None
  • Permissions: None
  • Primary Source: M-2 HMG
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Freebirds Industries
  • Affiliation: Closed-Market
  • Model: M-2 Mod 2
  • Modularity: Can be incorporated into any vehicles, use a variety of sights/optics when used on tripods, and can use different belts of ammunition as long as the casing and charge match the initial caliber
  • Production: Minor
  • Material: Phrik-A, Doonium, FM-002, Duranium (all materials used in making the slug thrower components), with a FM-002/Carbonite finish for all weather/climate protection, Polymer handles (if used on vehicle swivel or tripod mount)
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Slugthrower Heavy Machine Gun
  • Size: Extremely Large
  • Weight: Very Heavy
  • Ammunition Type: Cased 23 mm x 120 mm Ammunitions (Base belts are Armor Piercing Incendiary Tracer - Shield Piercing Ionite-A 1:1)
  • Ammunition Capacity: Large - Tripod or vehicle mounted uses boxes of ammunition that come in 250 round belts, vehicle integrated would use internal stowage and is entirely dependent on the vehicle in question.
  • Reload Speed: Low - Weapon system requires the user to manually load the first few rounds into the weapon, and being 23 mm x 120 mm rounds, this is not easy due to the rounds weight. Loading process is as follows:
    • Open feed tray cover, check for remaining links/rounds in the feed tray
    • Open the bolt to ensure last round was expended and ejected properly
    • Close bolt, insert start of new belt into the feed tray
    • Seat the rounds in with link extractor, close feed tray cover
    • Pull back on the charging handle and release allowing bolt to cycle first round of the belt into the chamber
  • Effective Range: Battlefield - 23 mm round has extremely good ballistics and energy giving it a maximum effective range of 2.5 kilometres
  • Rate of Fire: High
  • Stopping Power: Extreme
  • Penetration: Extreme
  • Recoil: Extreme - At the very least tripod mounting is required, otherwise vehicle use only

SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Takes the original intent of the M-2 and puts it into overdrive, making this weapon system a threat to all light skinned vehicles and aircraft/starfighters with the ability to punch through armor and shields with its one-two punch of Armor Piercing Incendiary Tracer Rounds and Shield Piercing Ionite-A rounds.
  • Extremely robust construction utilizing new materials such as Phrik-A, FM-002 and others gives this weapon system an extremely reliable build, making maintenance relatively easy, and the weapons very, very tough.
  • Total analog operation and mode of fire also means that regardless of the environment, this weapon system will operate. No questions asked.
  • Ballistics of the 14 mm round used in the original M-2 were improved by making an entirely new round, the 23 mm x 120 mm round. This round flies faster, further, and delivers more kinetic energy to the target than its predecessor, making it superior in almost every way. The weight of the rounds are even similar, due to the two stage construction of the rounds, with a Phrik-A casing instead of traditional brass and Durasteel alloys.
  • Links are self disintegrating allowing the expended dunnage after firing to be a nice neat little pile of casings and links instead of a mess of stupid long and heavy belts.
STRENGTHS
  • The ability to reach out and touch someone: This heavy machine gun has the range to reach past 2 kilometres with accurate and effective fires. This means that placed in the right hands (or on the right turret) this thing will give gunners the ability to engage targets at those ranges with heavy machine gun fire to suppress and destroy them.
  • !@#$ you and your cover!: You know what's more terrifying than being suppressed by a heavy machine gun? Being suppressed by a heavy machine gun that is absolutely punching right through the precious cover that you and your allies are hiding behind and annihilating whoever it hits behind it. Your best defense is concealment, because this thing looks at static cover, and laughs in Armor Piercing Incendiaries.
  • Those are some nice shields: Shield Piercing Ionite-A rounds are a new development for the Heavy Machine Guns from Freebirds Industries, utilizing a SYC/Phosphorous jacket to protect the rounds (and everything else from the rounds), with an Ionite-A core that when it impacts an enemy's shield causes the Ionite-A to shatter into a fine particulate and do what Ionite and Ionite-A does. Which is absolutely decimate and destroy shields and electronics. This effect makes this kinetic based weapon system a massive threat to even shielded vehicles.
WEAKNESSES
  • This is a static or vehicle mounted weapon system: You are not carrying this into a fight as a dismount. Period. Doesn't matter how strong you think you are, how big you think you are, the recoil and weight alone of this weapon system is ridiculous, which means you aren't going to be shooting this from the hip. For a dismounted team, you'll need at least three personnel for the weapon system, one for the tripod, one with the weapon, and the third carrying two boxes of ammunition. And even for just that these men need to be physically very strong or using power armor because this weapon is stupid heavy.
  • Location, location, location: This weapon system when used dismounted is only as good as the location it sits in. Because moving it, takes time as the weight of this thing is substantial, especially the ammo. And because you have to carry every, single, round to and from wherever you're going, this is going to get either really heavy or time consuming as a dismounted grunt.
  • Haste makes waste: Look at the clearing and loading procedures under Reload Speed. There is a reason for every single step there, because in order for the perfect operation of this weapon system you have to follow that to a tee to ensure that there are no misfires, jams, double feeds, or other shenanigans while this weapon is firing. That means that the most unreliable part of the weapon system is the operator because this thing will fire round after round, belt after belt all day every day, until the gunner and loader screw up that process. So don't skip steps.
DESCRIPTION
The heavy machine gun. One of the original products pioneered by The Dire Wolves with their original plan of creating, testing and fielding their own class of weapon systems, Freebirds Industries got a hold of the schematics of the original M-2 and one question was asked. How could we make this better? Their answer? The Mod 2. Using new material and production technologies pioneered by Freebirds, the M-2 got an overhaul with the Mod-2 production variant which makes the weapon hit harder, from further away, and maintain the original idea for the Heavy Machine Gun. A rapid fire weapon system capable of engaging enemy light and medium armor, infantry, and starfighters effectively whether used as part of a dismounted team, or on a vehicle mount. The inclusion of Shield Piercing Ionite-A rounds makes this weapon system even more deadly and effective than its predecessor because now it has an effective answer to shields across multiple vehicles and starfighters, making it even more effective in combat. And while this thing is bigger, heavier, and just as ridiculous to lug around as its predecessor was, nothing at all compares to the feeling of getting behind one, and going cyclic through a 250 round belt. And we at Freebirds guarantee that at least, or your money back.
