SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Can roll into ball configuration for faster ground travel.
  • Able to perform engineering duties or sabotage duties
STRENGTHS
  • Anthill: Mite droids are created in enormous numbers, and while one may not be a great threat, in groups they can drag down far larger enemies.
  • Builder Unit: Mites are designed to operate similarly to eusocial insects, combining their efforts to complete much larger projects in record time, or tear down those of their enemies.
WEAKNESSES
  • Tiny and Weak: Given their small size and extreme fragility, almost any weapon will suffice to destroy a Mite in a single hit. Even a firm stomp from a boot will do.
DESCRIPTION

The "Mite" droid was first conceived as a way to get around Helix Solutions' lack of a proper home port. Constructed in vast numbers, these droids are even smaller than their CIS predecessors, being around the size of a clenched human fist in their ball configuration. These droids possess strong social programming, not unlike hive-dwelling insects, and operate in much the same way. Though an individual Mite is small and weak, in their thousands they can combine their efforts to complete much larger tasks.

Mites are capable of operating comfortably in most atmospheres, vacuum, or underwater. To assist in this, they are capable of collapsing into a rolling configuration, as well as flying under their own power for short periods of time.

These droids can often be seen swarming across the hulls or interiors of Helix vessels, repairing breaches or performing routine maintenance. Their small size allows them to slip easily into cramped areas to perform repairs (or sabotage, if they find their way into enemy vessels). Similarly, it is these machines that are responsible for constructing new warships, using their numbers to move great hunks of armor plating or metal beams with remarkable ease in the void. The Mite is likewise used commonly in ground operations, erecting structures and defenses in record time.

An individual Mite is fairly flimsy, being easily destroyed from a single direct hit from virtually any weapon. They possess few particular resistances on their own, and in a pinch can even be dispatched with bare hands and feet. Still, as they are designed to operate in the frigid void of space, or in the raging heart of a starship engine, they possess strong resistance to heat and cold, if nothing else.

When threatened, these machines respond to aggressors by simply attempting to overwhelm them, cutting and burning with numerous tiny tools. A sufficiently large swarm of angry Mites can be a threat even to armored vehicles, as they are skilled at boring into weak points in armor. A group of Mites that manage to enter an enemy starship can easily spell disaster, as their small size and relative stealthiness can potentially allow them to inflict serious damage to critical systems if left unchecked.
