Jasper was, by all means, very excited. It wasn't often that he traveled for non-mission reasons, and more and more he was beginning to value his family's home as a retreat. Of course, that naturally meant that he had to bring his students there. He figured Maran could use the change of scenery, and there was a room in his new abode that lent itself well for the training he had in mind. It wasn't long before the Lonestar 1 had entered the atmosphere of Sacorria, the modest red cliff dwelling coming into view.

"That's the place," he told her. "The view from the balcony is unreal." A sly grin spread across the knight's face. "Unless you're scared of heights, that is."

His partner very much was scared of heights. Marissa had been so nervous when they first investigated the place. He had been too, of course, but that was more because of the uncertainty that came with connecting with his ancestry. It had been uncharted territory for Jasper for quite some time now. Still, he liked to think that he had taken it in stride. Everything else after the war had been wild, so what was a bit more complication? The councilmember landed his freighter, jumping to his feet with a surprising amount of energy in his step. He had worked so much during the war, Maran would have generally seen him in a more reserved state. Time to sleep properly had greatly elated his mood.

"I figured this was a good place to start your training," Jasper explained, the first mention of what they were actually doing. "You've grown a lot, and I couldn't be more proud as your teacher. So, I figured that it was only right to make good on a promise I made to you a while back."

And the best part was he finally found a way to teach it, which was the important part about all of this.

"I think it's time I taught you Force Light."

It'd been some time since she last learned under Jasper. She'd wanted to avoid the war. It wasn't a place for children, was her excuse. But in reality she'd been scared. She still was. Fear. It was something that just echoed through her mind constantly. Fear of confrontation, of battle. Of pain. Death. She took to her studies instead, focusing on them. But.. Hearing about the others. How people like Calix had still fought. Had died to win the war, she couldn't help but feel some sense of shame.

A shame she buried deep into her studies instead.

She flashed a brief smile, dipping her head in thanks to his words. And seeming to ignore the comment about heights. She wasn't scared. Not at all. She was just keeping a healthy distance from the edge. That wasn't fear.

"I.. Wanted to catch up to the others, so.. I mean. Not that I had to." Op. Old habits it seemed. She moved on from the smugness regardless, blinking in surprise.

"Oh. Right. Right! I remember. I- What's the use of it again? Not that I'm doubting your judgement or anything but I mean, why not use a flashlight if you need light..?"

Not that I'm doubting your judgement or anything but I mean, why not use a flashlight if you need light..?

"I mean, if you can find a flashlight that wards of the darkside, I'd be very impressed," Jasper remarked with a grin. "It isn't about the light source. It's what you can do with it."

Jasper continued inside, opening the door for Maran before leading her through the abode of his lineage. It was small, a main living space with a kitchen and a fireplace, a window that gave a view of the sky (as well as the sheer drop below), and a small terrarium with a self-sustaining farm.

"The hope is that with the war over," he continued, "We won't have to deal with Sith too often, but there's a slim chance that's the case. Plus, force light is particularly good at helping dispel corruption. Remember how I purified that kyber when we first met?"

It was an ability that would naturally keep Maran safe when facing darkness, a handy ability to have in a pinch. It had saved his own life a handful of times now, so he had no doubts that it would do the same for his student. He walked down the hall, opening a doorway that lead to a circular chamber. In the center sat a rather large Force Crystal, one which filled the entire space with a warm energy. A meditation chamber, one which would prove instrumental for their training.

"There isn't a room quite like this one back at the temple," the knight noted. "I figured it was a good spot to start."

And he did want to show her his new abode. It was exciting. He had never owned a house before, which is something that was very obvious in his overall demeanor.

Oh. Oh right. For a moment Maran just frowned and blushed as she remembered just how useful Force Light could be against darksiders. She'd read about it, just.. Forgotten. Yeah. That's what her excuse was. Not that she said of course. She nodded as she followed him, swallowing that stubborn pride over being wrong. She needed to work on that, she knew that much. And she was. He should be proud of her for not saying something!

No, wait. That was just more pride issues. Ugh.

"It's.. Really pretty here. How long ago did you get this place?"

"I got it pretty recently," Jasper stated. "My genetic template kicked it a while back, and I guess this place winded up transferring to my ownership or somethin'... It's a whole thing in and of itself."

A grin spread across the knights face.

"I'm gonna be completely honest," he laughed, "I was pretty convinced that I was gonna live in my ship till I died. It's not a bad place all things considered. My ancestors were... well, they had good taste." Jasper took a moment to walk over to the force crystal, laying his hand on the stone. "And they put in this thing. It's a force crystal. They enhance force user's awareness. Pilots put them in their ships to improve their instincts, but they also are pretty handy at helpin' folks who don't have as strong of a connection, like myself."

He wasn't shy about his limited force connection. Maran even at thirteen probably had a much higher connection to the force than he did currently, even if she was unskilled in how she utilized it. There was very little doubt in his mind that she would surpass him in that regard, but he always liked to remind that force connection wasn't everything.

After all, he had stumbled his way to knighthood and a council seat and overwhelming leadership responsibilities. If he could make it, anyone could. Probably.

"We're gonna use it to connect," Jasper explained. "There's something I've been meaning to test that I think will help you get the hang of Force Light. With time and effort as well, of course."

Force crystal, huh? Maran looked it over curious as can be, idly rubbing at her chin in thought. So his plan was for her to use this? She nodded. It made sense. A lot of sense. Leave it to her master to think of something like this! There was a brief moment of her proudly smiling as she looked at him, but she buried that with any praise she might've just gone into saying if she hadn't caught herself.

"Well, lets get started then!"

"Well, lets get started then!"

"Great. I've got an idea for how to recreate what first lead me to develop force light."

He sat down, gesturing for Maran to sit with him. Jasper had not been very force sensitive, a true fact about his existence that had followed him since childhood, but very recently he was learning that he had a knack for picking up on strange force abilities that were difficult to learn. Perhaps a lingering product of his artificial creation? It was hard to say, as most of these abilities were so weak that he could never reasonably use them.

But there was one that he figured could have some very limited use with a little help from a force crystal.

"A good friend of mine used a skill called battle meditation back when we were your age," he explained. "I used force light for the first time when I opened my mind to hers, though I can't say it really did anything at the time. Still, I've wondered if connection through the force could also allow an ability to be transferred from one person to another."

An awkward grin spread across his face as he scratched the back of his head.

"I tried learning battle meditation, but I've only ever been able to connect to one person at a time," Jasper admitted. "It's really just a glorified force bond, but I think it'll get the job done."

"Can't say I know what you mean, but I'm willing to try it. Especially if it means it'll help me learn."

She didn't read much up on force bonds or the like, but it sounded like it'd be plenty useful. But that wasn't what she was here to learn. She let out a breath, closed her eyes. Found a spot to sit beside the crystal itself. Whatever they were about to do, it made sense that she should at least get into a more meditative stance, right? Right.

"I'm ready."
