OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: Every hero, anti-hero and villian has their unique garb that identifies them as a character, what you measure who they are by at a glance; Han Solo has his jacket and trousers, Darth Vader has his armour and Korvo wears the Macabre view he sees when looking into the mirror.
  • Image Source: Hellhound by SharpWriter
  • Canon Link: Not Applicable
  • Restricted Missions: Not Applicable
  • Primary Source: Blast Vest, Crushgaunt.
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Blaster-Resistant, Ballistic-Resistant, Explosive-Resistant, Lightsabre-Resistant, Direct Energy Weapon-Resistant.
  • Weight: 10 Kilogrammes
  • Quality: 4
DETAILED SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Blast Vest has internal pockets; Front, Rear and Sides beneath the arms for easy insert and removal of new and damaged Phrik armour plates. With a faux-zipper hanging from the centre of torso to deceive foes into believing it offers no protection and is simply an equipment vest to increase its chances of being targeted.
  • Blast Vest Deltoid Protector; Blast Vest has a hook and loop closure over the right shoulder for a deltoid protector which can have Phrik plates inserted and removed from it easily. This protects the right side of Korvo's neck and shoulder from return fire when in a firing position as he is a left-handed shooter.
  • Phrik Ballistic Collar; Provides unparalleled protection to Korvo's neck area from ballistics, energy weapons, explosives and more concerningly melee weapons and lightsabres the latter of which having been the death of many a good Mercenary in close quarters. Notably the collar has a small gap on its right-side so as to not restrict mobility and is protected in a firing position by the Deltoid Protector.
  • Blast Mask; Constructed from titanium, protects Korvo's face from missiles, explosives and energy weapons. It doesn't protect the back of his neck however or provide protection from a vacuum or airborne chemical weapons although his cybernetics offsets these disadvantages. Its countenance is covered with a haunting design featuring bow-legged creatures in addition to the basic details of a skull painted carefully on its surface. The Blast Mask features a boommic connected to internal antennae for long-range ultra-high frequency radio communication. The frequency dial is tiny and an analogue system so it cannot be changed or scrambled on the fly but is synchronised to any radio network necessary prior to operations. The last feature is a pair of tranparisteel lenses to protect his eyes from explosives, projectiles or blaster fire.
  • Combat Webbing; The Blast Vest features a myriad of pouches for slugthrower ammunition and other utilities, including a bandolier of rifle rounds over left shoulder, loose rounds across the breast. And throwing knives kept in a series of easily-accessible sheaths over the right shoulder. One of Korvo's dissuader slugthrower pistols finds itself holstered beneath the throwing knives and the other just above his right hip.
  • Duty Belt; Korvo owns a surplus Coruscant underworld police duty belt where he stores additional ammunition, water, rations and specialised slicing and medical equipment. It also helps support a medpac holstered in a thigh rig hugging his right leg.
  • Armourweave Jacket; Beneath the blast vest Korvo wears an armour weave jacket over his five-colour disruptive pattern camouflage uniform, this provides limited albeit additional protection against blaster attacks and glancing lightsaber strikes. A precaution for close-quarter fights.
  • Grisly Trophies; On a string around his blast collar, Korvo wears a series of ears on a string as trophies from criminals he has defeated which by his own admission were taken from "wife-beaters" and slavers.
  • Reinforced Duraplast Elbow & Kneeguards; For maximum comfort in a variety of firing positions Korvo wears a pair of reinforced duraplast elbow and knee guards which also offer protection from low-powered blasters, explosives, slugthrowers and strikes from lightsabres. Protecting what he deems another important joint that Force users might try to target.
  • Reinforced Duraplast Vambrace; Korvo's right wrist is sheathed in a reinforced duraplast vambrace to protect the forearm and wrist from attacks when in a firing positon of melee combat where he can use it confidently to block strikes from the likes of Vibroblades while readying a killing blow with his own blade clutched in left-hand. Its' highly protective; Resisting Blasters, Slugthrowers, Explosives and Lightsabres. The Vambrace has the menacing countenance of a snarling wolf painted in crimson on its surface.
  • Crushgaunts; Korvo's gloves were stolen from a Mandalorian Mercenary he defeated on a derelict space station, they're made of Mandalorian Iron or "Beskar" and significantly augment Korvo's grip strength allowing for significantly stronger punches and a clutch so strong it can crush bone and metal. Combined with his extensive cybernetics it makes for a fatal combination and overwhelmingly powerful deterrent against would be initiators of a fist-fight for those who can recognise what these gloves are.
  • Camouflaged Uniform; Korvo's basic clothing is a five-colour disruptive pattern uniform giving him the ability to passively blend into a large variety of environments. The uniform is made from a 50/50 Ripstop Nylon and Cotton Poplin Blend, making it resistant to cuts, tears, igniting when exposed to fire and providing comfort on inhospitable terrestrial environments.
  • Magnetisable Boots: Korvo wears a pair of smart-boots that will magnetise in the absence of gravity.
Strengths:
  • Maximum Protection, Maximum Mobility: Lucius' Nightmare was constructed by Korvo to provide maximum protection to problem areas with close-quarters fighting in mind, as a dangerously proficient martial fighter he did not want to constrain his mobility significantly with great armour coverage, so he found a compromise with using Phrik plates cut to the blast vest's dimensions which also makes it easy to repair and maintain. It offers substantial protection to his vital organs and vulnerable joins in combat with the exception of his left arm which is completely unprotected save for the armour weave jacket over his uniform and elbowguard, in addition to his legs being unprotected from above and below the knees.
  • Augmented Disarmed Fighting: With a pair of crushgaunts at his disposal in addition to already being a disarmed fighting expert Lucius' Nightmare provides Korvo with unparalleled lethality in hand-to-hand fighting. To put it simply, if Korvo engages a target while wearing the Nightmare and can manage to get within arms' length of them Korvo can potentially inflict fatal injuries to his target with post-human speed and accuracy. This is a result of his extensive combat-orientated cybernetic enhancement creating a formidable threat to even experienced force wielders who would fancy themselves above being concerned with those unable to use that mysterious power.
Weaknesses :
  • Limited Surface Coverage: The Nightmare provides little protection to the legs and left-arm which are still vulnerable to attack, there exists a vulnerability when Korvo's right arm is lowered where a cunning and opportunistic opponent could strike at his throat with a bladed weapon. In addition, when Korvo's arms are raised there exists the opportunity to strike at his ribs through the axilla (Underarm). The elbow guards that Korvo wears additionally only protect the elbows leaving the elbow-joint open to attack from bladed weapons and lightsabres which would disable the mercenary, the same goes for his knees which could be easily slashed from behind Korvo. The Titanium Ballistic Mask leaves the back of Korvo's head unprotected from any kind of attack.
  • Hazardous Environments: Korvo doesn't possess the technical or trade skills to produce a highly sophisticated hermetically-sealed piece of armour. It leaves him with no defence against exposure to chemical, biological and nuclear weapons in addition to the cold nothingness of Vacuum. Thanks to his cybernetics he can survive for a limited time in Vacuum although not indefinitely and not at peak fighting efficiency with recovery being a certainty. In addition, he's completely vulnerable to the effects of corrosive agents such as acids that make contact with his skin. And while most of his equipment cannot ignite and indeed his uniform is fire retardant it doesn't change the fact he's unprotected from fire if it makes contact with his skin or the extreme heat it produces; With the potential to cook inside his own armour as the metals increase in temperature. He's also completely exposed to ambient environmental hazards such as temperatures that exceed fifty-four degrees celsius or fall below Zero-Degrees Celsius.
  • Impaired Situational Awareness: Unlike the sophisticated armour suites provided to professional militaries; Lucius' Nightmare provides no specialised multi-spectum visor modes, it has no 'fancy' holographic helmet-mounted display. No life form scanner or tracker and this was an intentional decision by Korvo so as to minimise the cost of repairing the Nightmare. And in Korvo's experience access to technology leads one to become complacent and ignore their instincts which in his experience has saved his life on several occasions. This leaves the wearer at a disadvantage in a modern battlefield context as far as situational awareness is concerned. Peripheral vision to the right and left is negatively impacted by the Ballistic Mask reducing Korvo's field of vision when wearing it, forcing him to rely on his hearing to identify threats directly on his flanks if focused elsewhere.
DESCRIPTION

Lucius' Nightmare is a collection of equipment that Korvo has added to his combat-ensemble for years and came to be his identifier to the Galaxy at large; Consisting of a large number of commercial-off-the-shelf products cobbled together in one menacing package with little machining or engineering skill Korvo has nonetheless created something uniquely his to complement his close-quarters oriented combat style favouring high protection without compromising on speed or mobility. The Phrik plates are a recent addition after his previous employer died of natural causes and prior to this the Nightmare featured durasteel plate inserts but with galactic war and a plethora of dangerous contracts on the Horizon Korvo thought it prudent to upgrade. The equipment' design is kept simple so as to be modular and easy to repair or upgrade in the face of a changing environment in contrast to some more costly, exotic or specialised armour models sold by professional armourers on the galactic market. For example the commlink and boommic system within the Blast Mask is an analogue system which cannot be tampered with remotely but is a difficultly to change in the middle of combat where a hostile force might be actively listening to Korvo's conversations with allies or a client, as a result he usually likes to work alone or radio silent to avoid this distraction. Its' intimidating countenance is normally enough for most would-be-heroes or foolish scumbags to think twice about assaulting the career albeit young Mercenary. But not experienced members of the Mercenary community who might have a problem with "Baphom." As the equipment without a doubt outwardly identifies its wearer', which makes it a good thing Korvo doesn't like shying away from his actions; He is a murderer who engages in extortion of criminals and takes out contracts to 'disappear' other criminals. Nothing wrong with that from his twisted point of view and he wants the galaxy to know it.

What is your rationale for using a quality 4 rating, considering you are using phrik as your mainstay defense by the looks of it?

Most light armors would be classified as 1-4, most medium armors would be classified as 5-7, and most heavy armors would be classified as 8-10. However, rare or primitive materials, among other factors, can also affect armor class.

Many people choose lower armor classes for their custom armor in a trade off for more powerful equipment or specialized resistances, or simply for more mobility.

Armour rating isn't calculated by stopping power but also the mobility impact of the design, quality of the materials that go into the design and the specialised resistances it offers; I started by comparing it to Stormtrooper armour which is rated as a '5' and figured that okay, it doesn't offer anywhere near the surface coverage protection of Stormtrooper Armour or Mandalorian Armour. The latter of which when constructed of Mandalorian Iron which is Cited as Heavier than Phrik in lore materials and so I figured helped contribute to its higher rating. The Nightmare while providing unparalleled protection only does so for the Torso, right deltoid and collum. It leaves significant areas of his body unprotected by Phrik.

Examine the design's details closely; if you shot at the left shoulder from a position perpendicular to said shoulder (Which has no protection save an armourweave jacket) with something along the lines of a targeting blaster the shot would go straight through his shoulder through the ribs and into his vital organs; Heart and Lungs. Likewise, he is completely vulnerable from about the waist down with nothing but camouflaged trousers and kneepads for protection any explosion could send shrapnel straight into his legs and any old knife could be plunged straight into his femoral artery. The back of his head is unprotected by the Ballistic Mask so anybody with a blunt weapon could just smash him over the back of the head, the Nightmare leaves significant parts of the character's body unprotected.

Any rating over 5 is stated to sacrifice mobility for protection which simply is not the case with the Nightmare when you consider its design and the physical properties of the materials used in its construction; Phrik is an extremely light metal and Korvo made certain when designing the vest that it would have a negligible impact on range of motion. And it shows, there is a marked trade-off in surface coverage for mobility. There is also a trade-off in that it offers no protection from hazardous environments that would be debilitating such as the extreme cold, heat or the grip of a Vacuum which many heavy and medium armours do. That was also taken into consideration when determining the armour's class.

It's certainly not Stormtrooper armour at a '5' rating which is considerably heavier than the Nightmare, covers virtually the entire body while also offering very specialised resistances to hostile environments. Phrik is quite an exotic and light metal. The Nightmare isn't bulky and it isn't particularly heavy so it's certainly not "Heavy" Armour that constricts speeds and mobility and with how little it covers beneath the waistline it's certainly not in the league of "Medium" Armour with the likes of Stormtrooper Armour at '5' Rating, hence why I arrived at the '4' Rating.

You have armor that is Blaster-Resistant, Ballistic-Resistant, Explosive-Resistant, Lightsabre-Resistant, Direct Energy Weapon-Resistant yet your weaknesses do not balance out to all your special features and strengths.

Please add or expand your weaknesses for balance and fairplay. Either by removing some strengths or adding more tangible weaknesses.

There are two strengths; Three weaknesses as is. Forgive me but it's as if you didn't take the time to read the submission or the previous conversation between Tai and I and realise those protections are concentrated to the subject's torso, right deltoid and face which also happens to be one of the weaknesses of the system. It doesn't cover a large surface area and leaves his legs and left-arm almost completely unprotected save for some Duraplast Knee/Elbow pad and an armourweave jacket, his limbs are actually quite vulnerable to attack not to mention someone could just hit him really hard over the back of the head. You ask for fairplay and I point to the surface coverage, lack of special resistances and just sheer low amount of situational awareness it offers the wearer when compared to other approved systems in the form of awesome multi-spectrum visor modes, life form scanners and sophisticated heads-up displays.

Sorry for the delay. I did not receive your tag. I assure you, I have read the entire submission.

With four different iterations of the factory, power creep and highly over powered armors are indeed already approved. However, as they are grandfathered in, we can not demand edits unless they have been reported for abuse.

In the meantime, the removal of dev threads has indeed made the focus more on Fair Play and balance. That's where anything approved in the past compared to what is moving forward are different.

Now, I see that you have already made some verbiage edits. Great. Let's look at what we have.

  • Strengths: Maximum Protection, Maximum Mobility: Lucius' Nightmare was constructed by Korvo to provide maximum protection to problem areas with close-quarters fighting in mind, as a dangerously proficient martial fighter he did not want to constrain his mobility significantly with great armour coverage, so he found a compromise with using Phrik plates cut to the blast vest's dimensions which also makes it easy to repair and maintain. It offers substantial protection to his vital organs and vulnerable joins in combat with the exception of his left arm which is completely unprotected save for the armour weave jacket over his uniform and elbowguard, in addition to his legs being unprotected from above and below the knees.

Looks good. But remember that the jacket is blaster resistant and offers limited resistance to lightsabers so that isn't “completely unprotected.”

  • Augmented Disarmed Fighting: With a pair of crushgaunts at his disposal in addition to already being a disarmed fighting expert Lucius' Nightmare provides Korvo with unparalleled lethality in hand-to-hand fighting, put simply if Korvo engages a target while wearing the Nightmare and can manage to get within arms' length of them Korvo can easily inflict fatal injuries to his target with post-human speed and accuracy as a result of his extensive combat-orientated cybernetic enhancement creating a formidable threat to even experienced force wielders who would fancy themselves above being concerned with those unable to use that mysterious power.
Please edit in “may potentially easily inflict fatal injuries” in place of “ can easily inflict.” In a pvp situation, it isn't a guarantee.

  • Weaknesses :Limited Surface Coverage: The Nightmare provides little protection to the legs and left-arm which are still vulnerable to attack, there exists a vulnerability when Korvo's right arm is lowered where a cunning and opportunistic opponent could strike at his throat with a bladed weapon. In addition, when Korvo's arms are raised there exists the opportunity to strike at his ribs through the axilla (Underarm). The Titanium Ballistic Mask leaves the back of Korvo's head unprotected from any kind of attack.

Your armorweave jacket still provides blaster resistance and limited lightsaber resistance, which includes under his arms. Nonetheless, the lack of protection to the legs is a valid one. You could go further and state that this armor does not provide protection kinetic /blunt force trauma.
  • Unpressurised: Korvo doesn't possess the technical or trade skills to produce a highly sophisticated hermetically-sealed piece of armour. And while most of his equipment is inflammable and indeed his uniform is fire retardant it doesn't change the fact he's unprotected from fire if it makes contact with his skin. He's also completely exposed to environmental hazards such as temperatures that exceed fifty-four degrees celsius or fall below Zero-Degrees Celsius.
On one hand you suggest that a weakness is that he’s vulnerable to fire yet it is fire retardant. See how that sort of sounds contradictory? I think a rewording may help here, where instead of “unpressurized,” you can replace it with, “Vulnerable to environmental hazards: this armor does not provide protection against environmental hazards such as nuclear, biological, chemical, or extreme temperatures that exceed fifty-four degrees celsius or fall below Zero-Degrees Celsius.
  • Low-tech: Unlike the sophisticated armour suites provided to professional militaries; Lucius' Nightmare provides no specialised multi-spectum visor modes, it has no 'fancy' holographic helmet-mounted display. No life form scanner or tracker and this was an intentional decision by Korvo so as to minimise the cost of repairing the Nightmare. Peripheral vision to the right and left is negatively impacted by the Ballistic Mask reducing Korvo's field of vision when wearing it, forcing him to rely on his hearing to identify threats directly on his flanks if focused elsewhere.
Low tech honestly isn't a weakness. There are plenty of low tech armors that still provide a solid advantage. The weakness in here, however is simply the last sentence. It would be best to readjust that to emphasize it. IE. “Impaired peripheral vision: Peripheral vision to the right and left is negatively impacted by the Ballistic Mask reducing Korvo's field of vision when wearing it, forcing him to rely on his hearing to identify threats directly on his flanks if focused elsewhere.

With those clarifications we can move forward to getting this approved.

No need to apologise, You're an administrator who also has a life away from the board like everyone else though I appreciate it. With how much interest there is in the invasion between the Galactic Alliance-First Order.

I will take your feedback and make some appropriate edits, it should be ready for review shortly.
