The House of Caldogne has a long and treasured history in the Tapani Sector.
This is not very relevant to our tale.
At one point or the other the Counts of Caldogne found themselves hosting a peculiar man. A wild man, boorish and with no taste whatsoever. They kept him as a guest first and a jester next. Little did they know that this man was studying them day and night. Their habits, their routines, secrets and wishes, until he knew them as well as they knew themselves.
They all disappeared several months later.
It was the mystery of the decade. Thankfully a cousin appeared weeks later, laying claim to the Caldogne estate. While few gave him the odds to succeed this man, Luciano Caldogne, ended up having a sharp business sense and a personable nature couple with the ability recognize friend from foe. Only a few odd years later Luciano maneuvered himself into lending money to the highest and brightest of the Tapani Sector. The profits that were reaped from this were used to formalize a bank that would serve all of Tapani and more.
Centuries later and Luca Caldogne (some relation) still maintains the same level of service his ancestor forefather executed all those centuries ago.
Sadly the House has seen better times.
Its fortune waxed and waned with the tide of the Galaxy itself. It suffered during the Gulag Plague, being almost decimated, it thrived as the Galaxy thrived. And in recent years it has seen its ability to project power severely diminished. The last several governments curtailed the bank's ability to do business. To be more precise, to do business as ruthlessly as necessary to make a profit.
But Luca was finally allowed to step out of the shadows of his father and assume his proper role as Magistratus of the Bank. He certainly looks the part. Few had seen his father in recent years, as Lucanto the Elder preferred to operate through intermediaries, but they all agree that Luca Caldogne is the spitting image of his father.
And oh, Luca dreams of better days.
First he will have to restore the family name and its Bank to its former glory, of course.
