Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
Image Source: N/A (check the Pluton sub if you want to see the guns - can't find a cropped picture of them)
Intent: To make a sub for the hypervelocity guns comprising the main armament of the Pluton-class battleship, since according to the new rule any ship weapon equaling more than forty turbolasers power-wise needs a tech sub.
Development Thread: N/A
Manufacturer: Defiance Consolidated Multipurpose Manufacturing
Model: Long Range Heavy Hypervelocity Gun
Affiliation: Sith Empire
Modularity: No(comes in single turrets only - no enhancements allowed(dual, quad, heavy, long-range, etc))
Production: Minor
Material: Same as a standard hypervelocity gun.
Description: It's a really, really large hypervelocity gun. Based off the type used in the Yorika, Adamantine, and Adamith-class ships already produced by Subach, this variant is the cream of the crop - it is able to be fitted into a turret similar to the pre-existing HVs-2 hypervelocity gun, and fires heavier and longer-ranged projectiles than the standard weapon. This gun was designed to always get the first hit in, and the five positioned on the Pluton help focus the ship's firepower more than a comparable mass of turbolaser batteries. While the so-called "alpha damage" is excellent, the weapon suffers from a long reload time, and the fewer turrets on the ship mean that enemy craft are more likely to focus their missiles or torpedoes on said weapons, disarming the ship more quickly. Time will tell whether or not larger main armaments are put into service with more ship types, or whether such designs will be tossed by the wayside rather quickly.

Each of the individual weapons have the power of one hundred turbolasers firing consistently at a target. With a low rate of fire of three-quarters of a minute per shot - a rate of fire per gun of 1.33 rounds per minute - each individual shot deals a significant amount of damage, albeit less than a typical hypervelocity gun due to its modestly higher rate of fire. During testing, the guns of the Pluton proved excellent against the old Invictus-class Star Destroyer, the five guns able to pierce its shields and critically damage its bridge beyond economic repair from beyond standard turbolaser range. However, they have not been tested against the current generation of warships.
Classification: Hypervelocity gun
Size: Ship-mounted(equivalent to 25 turbolaser batteries)
Length: Little larger than a standard hypervelocity gun
Weight: Little heavier than a standard hypervelocity gun
Ammunition Type: Hypervelocity projectiles
Ammunition Capacity: Typically 100 projectiles
Range: 8km
Rate of Fire: Single shot(45 second recharge)
Special Features: Is powerful, but takes significant amount of time to reload.

While I'm fine with the current count I'd like to make sure that this doesn't come in heavy, dual, quad, long range, battery etc. varieties. Can I get you to specify that in the modularity?

Everything looks okay, but the swivel on the fire arc worries me a bit and 8km range seems a bit odd to me. I'm gonna go ahead and light the Starship Judge Beacon([member="Popo"] [member="Ayden Cater"]) and get one of them to voice a final opinion before I stamp.

This is a Heavy, Long Range HVG on a turret with an 8km range. It's worth 25 turbolaser batteries or 100 turbolasers. I see no issues with the current set up. If any of that changes, tag myself or [member="Ayden Cater"] and we'll take another look-see.

It's a gun worth a hundred turbolasers - a shot every twenty seconds seems excessive. Here's the only approved HVG I'm aware of. Your thoughts?

The only two approved very-large-HVG systems of which I'm aware have cooldown/reload times closer to 3-5 minutes. Are you working from other precedents?

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
I recall the only canon HVG taking at max a minute to recharge - then again, it is a game weapon after all. Would have to play EAW again to check. As for the SGreen - well, I did introduce you to it.

Then aside from EAW, there kind of isn't a canonical source stating what the refire rate of an HVG is... Forty-five seconds seems like more than enough time for equivalent firepower to have been dished out by an enemy Assault Star Destroyer, imo.

If you're willing to clarify that your damage per minute is equivalent to any other HVG that's worth a hundred guns, and your individual shot strength is proportional to that - write that out, make it clear how strong you expect this to be, and then we'll talk.

That's not the clarification I was after. The current wording makes it seem as if each shot is equivalent to fire from one hundred turbolasers. With more frequent fire than other HVGs worth the same, each shot will be less powerful, comparatively, to theirs.
