SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Variable Fire Modes: The Survivor's primary unique feature is that the rear of the blaster has a rotating drum, much like the cylinder on an old revolver, which rotates to align one of six chambers with the main blaster barrel. Each chamber can be selected via pushing a button just above the grip, or manually rotated by hand to index. Unlike a classic revolver, each chamber contains a different set of galven circuitry, with each set of circuitry providing a different effect:
    • Charged Shot: Like the common upgrade to the original LW-896, this set of heavy duty galven circuitry helps form an overcharged shot that not only frequently incinerates and sets its target on fire, but the blast from the bolt can also set other nearby people and objects on fire. This bolt usually explodes against contact with a lightsaber blade, potentially setting the lightsaber wielder on fire. This potential for collateral damage makes most people cautious about using it.
    • Ricochet: Another common effect from modifying the original LW-896, this galven circuitry set produces a highly unstable bolt that tends to only partially dump its energy into the first target before bouncing off in a slightly weaker state to hit someone or something else. Theoretically, this bolt could bounce up to three times before completely dissipating. This set is most commonly used when trying to hit hard to hit targets or against crowds of opponents.
    • Electric Stun: The last original effect from the original LW-896, this set effectively turns the Survivor into an electrobolt gun, forming a packet of dense electrical energy which typically electrocutes most targets into unconsciousness or can cause severe muscle paralysis. This mode works differently than most blaster stun settings, and consequently is both more reliable at stunning targets, and also much more rough on them as well. This is the only stun setting available on the Survivor.
    • Maser: This circuitry effectively turns the Survivor into a maser pistol much like the Chiss charric, imparting both typical heat energy as well as kinetic impact against targets. This is only a partial conversion of the blaster bolt energy, and consequently the bolt can be parried by a lightsaber, though the kinetic momentum is significantly more powerful than most blaster bolts, which can surprise many lightsaber wielders.
    • Ion: This circuitry includes ion focusing coils, which turns most, but not all, of the condensed energy in the bolt into ion energy. This mode is particularly effective at penetrating through shielding and can disable electronic devices and droids with enough shots, though typically some minor damage does occur. Against an organic, it causes a very painful sensation which is not typically lethal.
    • Armor Piercing: This upgraded galven circuitry effectively gives the Survivor the augmented spin barrel modification, making its bolts narrower and much more likely to pierce through different materials, whether it is cover in the environment or actual armor. This is typically the weapon's default setting, as not only is it effective against most targets, but it is also the least likely to cause collateral damage.
  • Targeting Laser: The Survivor can use the priming laser of the blaster to act as a visual targeting laser by lightly holding onto the trigger. Doing so projects a faint red light out of the barrel and onto the target/environment that directly corresponds to the forthcoming blaster's bolt trajectory.
  • Picatinny Rail: The Survivor does have top and bottom rails situated around barrel, which allows it to use a variety of over the counter weapon's attachments such as tactical lights, grappling spike launchers, scopes, bipods, and other similar devices
STRENGTHS
  • Heavy Hitter: Like other heavy blaster pistols, the Survivor fires an exceptionally powerful bolt which is often enough to outright kill many unarmored humanoids or pierce through many personal armors.
  • Long Range: The longer focusing time of the Survivor's bolt means that it does not lose cohesion as quickly as the bolts of many blaster pistols, giving it good range more equivalent to a carbine weapon.
  • Versatile: The Survivor's unusual galven pattern rotating drum allows the weapon to transform its bolts to better suit different situations.
WEAKNESSES
  • Bulky: The Survivor's longer barrel and greater size needed for its almost unique galven circuitry cylinder makes it a heavier and more bulky weapon than many of its contemporaries.
  • Delayed Firing: The rotating cylinder typically takes a second or two to switch between different settings as it physically rotates, leading to a delay in firing that most other weapons simply don't have. While it can be moved quicker by hand to physically index, this also introduces the possibility of human error selecting the wrong set of galven patterns.
  • Low Ammunition Capacity: The Survivor's bolts use a lot of energy and blaster gas to coalesce, which while makes them quite powerful, also means that ammunition capacity is less than that of many other pistols.
DESCRIPTION
While researching past blaster weapons as part of routine arms research, a Lucerne Personal Defense design team ran across a number of reports of modified LW-896 blaster pistols during the time of the Galactic Civil War in which the weapons were noted to fire exploding bolts, shots that richoceted off targets and outright electrocuted others. With some luck and not an insignificant amount of credits, they were consequently were able to acquire several original examples of the weapons in various states of quality. Seeing that there currently was no other weapon quite like it in active production, the design team turned their attention to making such a weapon, reasoning that it would likely do well in the Outer Rim market where hardy individuals often looked for an edge in personal protection. Rather than simply copying the original LW-896 and only inserting one set of galven circuitry at a time, the design team took the basic design and adapted its rear to using a revolving cylinder to allow users to select whichever set of galven circuitry they would like at a given moment. Not only were the original three modifications found, but the Lucerne Personal Defense team also added several other existing sets of galven pattern circuitry which had been used in other similar weapons.

The resulting heavy blaster pistol packs a definite punch and offers its users a variety of exotic effects not commonly found in other similarly sized weapons. While powerful and even a little flashy, the Survivor is also a little bit more finicky and maintenance heavy weapon. The sheer power sent through the galven circuitry often means that the circuitry gets worn down quicker than many of its contemporaries and needs to be replaced. Similarly, the rotating cylinder which contains the unusual galven ciruitry is another moving part which most other blaster weapons simply don't have, causing another point of potential failure and needed maintenance. Despite these shortcomings, the weapon's power, range, and unusual abilities have drawn a steady stream of customers, many of whom are so-called "independents" like spacers, colonists, and bounty hunters. A number of small, elite military units have also adopted the weapon for the same reasons, and its use can make a strong morale impression on both its user's friends and foes. For now, the Survivor seems to be regulated as more of a side offering in Lucerne Personal Defense's catalogue, not supplanting either the Dartfire or the Fistfire blaster pistols in their intended markets.
