As a Beskarsmith, Gaius Vel has studied much in weaponry and furthermore, armour. His years as an apprentice, and later now as a full-fledged Beskarsmith has provided him the key knowledge in crafting what he considers to be the pinnacle of his career.
A thin fim of Beskar studs has been applied to the armorweave. These studs work like scales, providing moderate protection while still remaining mobile for the wearer. The Beskar does not provide as much protection as it could. Due to studs being individual pieces, they are not capable of the core strength a single plate of it would have. Therefore the Beskar studding is more susceptible to blaster fire, slugs and lightsabers. The lightsaber resistance in the Beskar is all but diminished due to the studs being small pieces, meanwhile it shows moderate resistance to blaster fire before failure, and slug throwers proving that a well positioned shot can carve itself in-between two Beskar studs.
The core of the armor plating is made of thick Beskar. The thickness of the Beskar was decided due to the many openings in his Beskar'gam that allow him to relieve the weight where-as if he did not have these openings the armor would simply be too heavy to wear. The thickness provide him a sturdy amount of protection, while still not being too much of a burden due to the openings.
Nexu hide is ornately decorated along the shoulders and neck, and it shown for nothing more than appearance. It is used to inspire fear and a degree of respect, along with the Terentatek tusks on either side of his helm. Lastly, a Terentatek hide is enveloped around his throat as a form of scarf, once more it is nothing but an ornamental piece.
To keep Lord Gaius mobile and relieve some of the weighty burden, there are critical openings in his beskar-plated armor. These are located along the shoulder, tricep, elbow, wrist, groin, knees and rear thighs. These critical joints allow him flexibility, but come at a hefty price. They allow a wide arrange of attacks to be targeted at these many openings.
The power armor liner shirt utilises a micro energy field projector alongside two thin layers of ceramic plates. This aids in dispersing physical and blast impacts, reducing injuries and knockdowns. Apart from this, the liner provides protection from fire, acid, intense heat and cold.
The photo-reactive crystals featured on the beskar plates provide a rough equivalent to active camouflage. The camouflage properties can be extremely hard to see, and is activated via electrical pulses. Though it is not on par with a personal cloaking device and is vastly superior, as the photo-reactive panels do not make him invisible, but merely change the colour of his plates so as to allow him to submerge into his environment.
