Name: Lopats; singular: Lopat. Pronounced: LOW-pat
Designation: Sentient
Homeworld: Minioro (to be subbed)
Language:

  • Lopatese (named by non-Lopats) which is a combination of growls, howls, cackles and similar sounds.

  • Galactic Basic
Average Lifespan:

  • Male: 47

  • Female: 52
Estimated Population: ~13,500,000

Average height of adults: 1.61m
Average length of adults: Is this supposed to be width ?
Skin color: White beneath fur.
Hair color: Fur color tends to vary between light and dark brown, gray, black, ginger-ish.
Distinctions:

  • Canine/Hyena-like appearance all over

  • Often seen with open muzzles similar to grinning

Breathes: Type I
Strengths:

  • Physical tanks: Despite their short size, the Lopats are strong creatures with substantial pools of stamina and endurance.
  • Agile: Being able to utilize all their limbs for movement, they also can be very agile and quick. Something that is often surprising to outlanders due to their rather bulkier form.
  • Claws: Their claws are unnaturally strong being capable of mangling easily flesh and leather. They are so sharp that they can pierce light armor and scratch medium one.

Weaknesses:

  • Rarely intelligent / Simpletons: A very small portion of the Lopats can be considered smart and they are those that actually become leaders of tribes. Usually. This does not mean they cannot learn skills that are practical such as mechanics. Non-hands on skills are rather difficult for Lopats to learn.

  • Violent: Combined with the previous weakness, Lopats are prone to infighting and senseless violence for the littlest of things.

  • Undisciplined: Piling this together with the Violent weakness, Lopats are very undisciplined and chaotic creatures.

  • Rage: More often than not, Lopats will enter a state of rage going absolutely nuts. This although makes them unpredictable in combat it also makes them unable to distinguish between friend and foe.

Races: N/A

Diet: Omnivores.
Communication: Verbal. They are illiterate having no alphabet.
Culture:

Their culture can be summed up in two words - aggressive simpletons. The Lopats are a chaotic race that is constantly in strife with one another on both personal and tribal level. Unity is a word that does not exist in their language. Tribes are never large enough due to constant infighting, gangs would be a more fitting description of their fragmented communities. Nonetheless, they tend to be very loyal to their own tribes and a Lopat changing tribes is looked upon with great scrutiny and vows for vengeance.

Once a year is celebrated The Great Hunt. A day where Lopats from all tribes compete to hunt the Golden Elk - an elusive and rare beast roaming the land. For centuries now there has never been one Great Hunter that was able to catch the Golden Elk, that is of course due to constant fights between each other which lead to no productive results at all. It is safe to say the Golden Elk can freely graze the green fields of Minioro.
The Lopats' culture revolves around the survival of the fittest, more or less. There is no hierarchical system except for Tribe Chief and the rest. The Tribe Chief is usually the strongest, the one that beats everyone else. Rule is disputed only by battle or...a game of stone skipping. Nonetheless, stone skipping rarely is the decisive factor as the outcome of it would enrage the loser who would immediately assault the victor and then the outcome of that bout would be the actual factor of who the Tribe Chief would be.

Females have a special status in such a barbaric culture. Unlike common misconception, females are not violently treated by males. Quite the opposite, males are very protective of their females. Yet, if fighting, for some reason, occurs between a male and a female it is normal to see them physically fight.

Religion-wise, the Lopats believe in Motikar, a fatherly figure in the form of a Lopat with golden earrings and a giant club . Annually, in respect to Motikar, Lopats go out hunting armed only with clubs. That tradition is called 'Clubbin'. Fasting is observed a week prior to Clubbin' day in order to exhaust as much as possible the hunters in a way to challenge their skills. Fasting is rarely done nowadays.

Lopats still live in huts built by their own hands. There is no cities or any sort of development on Minioro, that is obviously due to their fragmented nature and eternal infighting.

Technology level: Below average. Blasters and slugthrowers are common and so are repulsorlift vehicles. The last are obviously very, very outdated. Generally, everything is outdated on Minioro. Starships are very, very rare. Mostly they would belong to outlanders.
General behavior: See culture.

History: Due to their nature, Lopats have always been laggers. Technology and innovations have always come to this race. Isolationist and not very bright have kept the Lopats in the dark ages. Their history is with nothing different that their contemporary situation - constant strife. The Lopats have always been seen by the rest of the galaxy as degenerates, troublemakers and simpletons. Yet, they've also been praised and sought after because of their fighting capabilities.

The Lopats appeared on the galactic scene and away from their isolationist planet when the Gulag plague struck. Brought in on Minioro, it decimated the population and it would've exterminated it had it not been for a team of Jedi sent out to relieve the galaxy as much as it could. This resulted in a great wave of migration from Minioro to the rest of the galaxy and it also saved the race from extinction. Despite that, that is unknown information to the Lopats as they do not record their history.

Now the Lopats dot all sorts of planets around the galaxy but are primarily situated on their home planet of Minioro fighting between each other all the time.

Average length typically applies mostly to quadrapedal species, as they have a height and length. In your case, you could potentially use it to indicate the average tale length, or put N/A.

Omnivores? With their appearance I'd expect carnivores. Most species with that many sharp teeth in their face, and with their sort of attitude issues, are not omnivores. Not going to make you change it, but you might think about it.

General Behavior: I know you describe it some above, but I need you to fill this section out still. Be more detailed about why they behave as they do.

History: Flesh it out more. How long have they been around? If they've been in existence for a long time, how do they still live a backwater lifestyle? Even most backwater worlds have ships to get away or decent speeders. Need to use the history to justify their technology level and culture. They probably don't have many droids so dealing with Omni won't have a big deal in this, but you could also mention the Netherworld event and how that affected them. It just needs more detail. A species has history (look at our own). Tell me about it, and justify the rest of the submission.

Intent: I need something better than making it on a whim. Most species are never even used after being made. Why are you really making this species? How are you going to use it?

Let me know when you've gotten through these or have questions.
