The Longfang-class Cruiser, also known as the Longfang-class Star Destroyer, was a warship designed for planetary defense, planetary assault, troop transport, and ship-to-ship combat. It was produced by Iron Wrath Industries, and saw use as part of the Iron Imperial Navy.
Fulfilling the role of an artillery cruiser, the Longfang was intended to engage enemies from vast distances. To that end, the cruiser was equipped with 48 long-range turbolaser batteries, and 20 long-range ion cannon batteries. This gave the cruiser incredible firepower, at immense distances. However, due to power-drain of these long-range batteries, the shields of the cruiser suffered. Considerably so. Fairly weak, and lacking the redundant shields common among other Iron Imperial vessels, the cruiser was somewhat of a glass cannon. Powerful, but fragile.
As a result, the cruiser relied primarily on avoiding damage. This philosophy led to two significant design decisions: a slimmer profile, and the installation of more powerful engines. The ship was significantly thinner, than that of other Iron Imperial vessels. This reduced the profile of the cruiser, and made it more difficult to hit at long-ranges. Additionally, the engines allowed the cruiser to utilize its speed, to remain outside of the effective range of enemy vessels, while firing on them with long-range batteries.
